This is more for college/university students but don't you just hate it when the school holds a monopoly over textbooks? Grr.

I just bought my chemistry and physics textbooks and both come with an access code you need for some online homework system. If you buy a used book, you can buy the access kit/code online for around $40US. Wtf?

And I haven't even gotten books for half my classes and I've already spent around $300. Why do I need a Mathematics Survival Guide for my Calculus class? I can survive the class without it. Actually, I can survive life without Mathematics. (Ok, maybe not.)

I need a stupid i>clicker that allows me to answer multiple choice questions in class where the stats for the answers can be given right away when the prof clicks a certain button for the program. $35 for a tiny electronic. Seriously, wtf?

And my body is sore form carrying them home. Both weigh a total of 15 pounds. stubborn.gif My back and legs hurt. *cries*

Ah yea, when my dad went back to school he complained about book prices. Of course his work paid for most of it.

I hate school books. They kill my back because of my back problems, and since you have them as well I'm sorry deary flowers.gif

I hope it gets better.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I have a lot of Friends who are in college now.
As for me, I only have one book for Government. And 2 binders (German and Science).
So I'm lucky this year. But I'm not in college.

I had over $500 in book costs in my first semester freshman year, but the costs have decreased since then—partly because I already own expensive things like a calculator, for instance. I also don't have nearly as many books to buy: I had 19 my first semester, compared to 8 now (my fifth semester). Of course, those were mostly paperbacks, and now I mostly have big, heavy math and technical books that I usually don't sell back because I need them.

I have it and I'm worried. This has already been a terrible week in terms of carrying books and equipment home.

All of the textbooks I had to buy are hardcovers. I haven't bought everything I need (for lectures/labs/etc.) and I've used over $600. I have yet to buy my economics text, a lab coat, previous final exams and solutions (they are such a rip-off), googles, gloves, a hardcover lab notebook. What is wrong with paperback? cry.gif

Eep. I didn't carry any texts around in high school, at all; just a binder. I'm probably getting huge chem/calc texts; I'm not so much worried about my texts for my English classes. pinch.gif We'll see in a week.

Yeah, and some of my textbooks, I can only get through my school. And I also have to use that clicker thing; but I had to get it as a package that cost more. It's really annoying. But hopefully you'll be able to sell it back to the school bookstore?

I think we can get a $25 dollar rebate from the manufacturer and then sell the clicker back to the school bookstore at half-price. Too bad the same can't be done for textbooks.

Mm.. They didn't have any more used texts, so I had to buy new books for both my chemistry and calculus class, so both came with the access code. My roommate, however, had to buy a separate access code (for fifty USD) for calculus.

My books were close to four fifty, total, which was about average from what I hear. Some people I know only have half of their books and have already spent four hundred or so. I'm not carrying my books to class because I have a three hour block of three lecture periods every MWF, and we're supposed to read the text on our own anyway.

Wow, $450 isn't much when you compare it to $600+. =( I despise bringing texts to school but sometimes when I have long breaks in between, I need to catch up on certain things so I may just have to carry a 10 pound book back and forth. And my commute is long so I need something to do on the bus/subway. I also have to carry lab and lecture manuals with me sometimes.

The first high school I went to required people to buy their own texts, too.. but then I transferred out, so I really don't remember how much they cost.

I would hurt myself if I had to buy my high school textbooks. All of them are so super-freaking expensive. My psychology text alone costs at least $100.
