Facebook Feed?

So two days ago, Facebook released it's latest feature after profile badges (to advertise your facebook), my notes (a blogging-type system), and political & election groups (to increase awareness in the collegiate age group): a news feed and mini-feed to allow your friends to track all of your moves on facebook.

Many current users dislike the new interface, as is evidenced by the number of groups that sprang up. The official petition group is growing exponentially, with over five hundred twenty-four thousand (of an estimated nine and half million) joining in the past thirty-eight or so hours; it's big enough that the media is tracking the backlash.

So here's the question: how do you like the new facebook (if you use it)? Don't post if you don't use it, 'cause you'd be spamming, k. _smile.gif

btw, I didn't see fit to just bump an old facebook topic since this is asking about a response to the new facebook facelift thinger.

I dunno, I'm kinda ambivalent. I don't really like the new design, and the feeds do seem a bit stalkerish. But, I don't mind it that much, it's just different and needs some getting used to, I suppose.

Aside from the clear privacy implications, the news feeds are overkill. I'm not really interested in knowing when my friends make new friends, join groups, decline/accept invitations, or write on others' walls. I like how new photos are highlighted, and the changes to a userpage are highlighted (so it's not as hard to find the changed items anymore), but other than that, the information is unnecessary. And, of course, I don't like the issue with people being able to track my every move. That's a bit creepy.

Yeah it IS different. I'm fine with the notes & the badges but it's those feed things i don't like. It IS stalkerish. I'm not interested in how you and whoever became friends with whoever and i'm not into people knowing the same thing about me.

Well you can always delete whichever "feeds" you would like to prevent from other people seeing it.

agreed, I really don't want to know who just added thier friend and what group they joined and when. Its so creepy that you're facebook friends whould know who you comment and what you do. Facebook sent a response to the concerns and they basically said that you can delete the "story" but I don't want to have to delete a "story" after every time I comment or add someone.

If a great number of users don't like this feature, there should be an option to disable it.

I guess the new facebook interface has it's ups and downs. The upside is now I have found my old Elementary school friends since some of my friends have added them. The downside is everyone knows what I'm doing, which in a way I don't really mind...

Zuckerberg said Facebook was working on giving users additional privacy options.

The safeguards, set to be released Thursday night, will let users block from feeds entire categories -- such as changes to the groups they belong to -- while still allowing people to observe such changes by visiting the profile page. Before, a user had to remove items one at a time from their personal feeds.

I guess we've won some ground, I guess.

Also, LiveJournal seems to be taking the cautious route with its tracking after seeing Facebook's mistake, as can be evidenced by the new feature update. ( http://www.livejournal.com )

^ Spammer. >:O

Anyway, I don't use Facebook but a lot of my older friends do and I've heard quite a few of them complaining about it. They were all saying that the old simple layout was the best [I've seen my sister using facebook and it looked very simple, not complicated and everything. :D].

Now it's better, because at least you have privacy, but I hate how every time you sign on, your "home" gives you all sorts of junk that you probably don't care about.

You could customize it in FireFox with the custom usercss or whatever. My friend did, and he won't share the wealth because he's a bitchface. (He's still awesome, though.)

i have a facebook but i dont use it as much as myspace. i like myspace better, facebook is really a "safe" internet site how everything is blocked for non-friends and all. what i do like about it though is the amount of pictures you can get! but i find the "poking" kinda.. odd. haha. but it's okay, i like it i guess lol wink.gif

I have a friend that joined every anti-news feed group she could find. Haha. I joined the "Students against Facebook News Feed (Official Petition to Facebook)" group.

I didn't like how people could see everything I do on Facebook, but I'm glad that they added more privacy now.

At first I found it really annoying, but I finally got used to it.

Hey atleast it's real people you're talking to here, unlike Myspace where Michelle's could really be Michael's. ermm.gif
