COLORADO prosecutors won't charge schoolteacher John Mark Karr with the murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey after tests showed his DNA does not match DNA found in her underwear, two local TV stations reported today.

Denver's KUSA and KCBS both cited unnamed sources close to the investigation in the reports, which came just hours before Karr, 41, was due for his first Colorado court appearance.

Amid skepticism over Karr's claims to have been with the former Little Miss Colorado when she died, legal experts said it would be difficult to bring the case to trial without a DNA match.

A spokeswoman for the Boulder district attorney's office could not immediately be reached for comment.

Prosecutors have disclosed none of their evidence against Karr who, after his arrest in Thailand, professed his love for child beauty queen JonBenet and said she died by "accident".

Under Colorado law, formal charges usually must come within 72 hours of a defendant's initial court appearance.

The DNA found on the little girl's underwear was identified as belonging to a white male but has never been matched to a suspect in the murder, which for 10 years has baffled police and fascinated Americans.

JonBenet's parents, who were once said by authorities to be under an "umbrella of suspicion" in their daughter's death, were also excluded from having left the DNA. Her mother died of cancer in June this year.

Other evidence at the crime scene included a footprint found near JonBenet's body in the basement of her home and a palm print on a nearby door.

JonBenet's father, John Ramsey, found the girl's battered body in the basement on December 26, 1996, about seven hours after her mother stumbled on a bizarre letter claiming she had been kidnapped and demanding $US118,000 ransom.

JonBenet had been strangled to death with a garrote made from cord and a paint brush found in her mother's paint supplies, her skull fractured and her mouth duct-taped. Forensic evidence suggests she had been sexually assaulted.

Members of Karr's family insist he was out of state at the time of JonBenet's murder and could not have been involved in the crime.

Ooh, I just read that here.

Now I think the father did it. Did they test his DNA?

Yeah. There's NO WAY he even stepped foot in that house that night. And I'm not sure if they tested the father's DNA.. I think they did? Not sure. I guess I should research it more. laugh.gif

DNA Points to Intruder: A CBS "48 Hours Mystery" report Dec. 18, 2004, revealed that DNA found at the scene of JonBenet's murder is linked to a male not in the Ramsey family and the Ramseys are no longer the focus of the investigation. The report also indicates that whoever killed JonBenet may have tried to kill again -- attacking an eight-year-old girl who was in the same dance class as JonBenet Ramsey.

Yeah, they did..
I'm still not sure though.. I mean, the family could have paid someone off!

This is an old case. They've been on it for years. Her mother already died of cancer.

My dad met JonBenet's parents once. Strange.

^ I agree with Ian.

That whole thing was stupid, and it's so disgusting that anybody would need that much attention.

its not just his fault, they should of at least screened him before taking him out of thailand or wherever he was, what if like 5 other people from around the world said they killed her, they should of been more careful and atleast had some evidence ready before it. he just wanted his fifteen minutes of fame, and he got it. they just wasted time.

^ Um yeah, except he confessed. I'm not sure about the law where that's concerned, but I thought that they would have to bring him in because of that.

Besides, the guy is a grade A pyscho looney.

I feel bad for the dad, the guy still can't put any of this to rest.

In a recorded July 29 phone conversation with Tracey, Karr noted that he wanted Johnny Depp to portray him in a movie to be based on a manuscript Karr had authored. During that chat, Karr also noted that he was skilled at mimicry and was especially proud of his ability "to impersonate Katherine Hepburn.

Karr tells Tracey about his casting choice and how Willy Wonka (whom Depp recently portrayed) is "very similar to my personality except for the fact that Willy Wonka did not know how to treat children (lol, like he does)

He said that Johnny Depp reminds him of himself and that he looks like him.
