I have naturally wavy hair. I only straighten it sometimes but when I do it only stays straight for a few hours or so. How can I make it stay straight without using a shit load of hairspray and making it hard?

There are jells out there for your hair. I don't have to worry about this but all my friends do. I have straight hair. :-)

Sometimes you don't need a straightening serum or hairspray. You just need a better hair straightener. Honestly drugstore hair straighteners save you money but they don't do a good job at straightening wavy or curly hair. Invest in a hair straightener that cost a bit more then a drugstore one.
Anyways try a a straightening serum or hairspray. Redken Straight Hair Straightening Balm or Smart Fixx Silky Sleek Straightening Balm by Charles Worthington. I tried those two before & they work well. Other brands also usually have a straightening line, so just look around for one. |

^I was going to suggest the same thing.
Most of the anti-frizz styling products out there work very well but not without the aid of good styling tools (meaning high heat) and the right brushes (soft but firm bristles). Yet even after all of that, if there is any humidity in the air, none of this will work to keep hair smooth... Hmm I searched and found this QUOTE How to Straighten Hair with a Blow-dryer
Want to calm the frizzies or straighten your curls for a day? All you need is a round brush, a blow dryer, some hair products and about 30 minutes. Steps: 1. To straighten hair, begin by shampooing, conditioning and towel-drying hair. 2. Apply a heat protectant product to your hair, paying special attention to the ends. 3. Place a quarter-size dollop of straightening balm in your palm. Rub your palms together to distribute the product over your hands, then massage it evenly through hair. 4. Comb through your hair with your fingers while gently blow-drying it on a low setting. This removes excess water. 5. Pull your hair into three sections, two at the sides and one at the back. Clip the two sides up. 6. Select a small portion of the hair from the unclipped section to straighten. 7. Using a thick, round brush and beginning at the roots, gently pull the brush through the hair to the ends while blow-drying it. Pull the hair away from your head, stretching and straightening it as you go. 8. First pull the brush through the underside of your hair so that you expose it directly to the heat of the dryer. Once that area is mostly dry, switch to the top of the hair. 9. Keep the tension consistent and evenly distribute heat over the section of hair you're working on. This ensures uniform hair texture and prevents overdrying of certain areas. 10. Once that portion of hair is straightened, continue selecting and blow-drying small portions until that section is dry and straight. 11. Repeat the process on the two other sections to straighten your entire head of hair. Tips: Always point the dryer down as you blow-dry hair; blowing hair upward can cause frizzies. Tame flyaway hair with an antifrizz serum or pomade. Place a few drops in your hand, rub gently to distribute it, then apply it your hair according to the product instructions. To achieve flat hair, finish styling with a ceramic flat-iron designed for hair after following the steps above. Choose the heat setting for your hair type, and allow flat-iron to warm before using. Select portions of hair, as per blow-drying directions, and slide heated flat-iron along hair, beginning close to the roots and going past the ends of hair, repeating if needed to fully flatten hair. |

at the salon they have these hair dryers that have this straight nozzle thing. and when they dry your hair they comb it with a straight brush and put the hair dryer directly above it. maybe it might help... plus those products ^

my friends straighten their hair in the morning. like after they shower. maybe you can get a different straightener? one that goes to a high temperature or a different ceramic straightener.

Just get your hair rebonded at your local salon. I mean, sure it'll cost you but it's all worth it at the end. You don't have to wake up early in the morning and try to straighten your hair. If you get it rebonded, it will remain straight for about 6 months to a year depending on how fast your hair grows. And when your hair starts to get wavey again just go back for another rebonding. Hope whatever you do works.

Chemical straightening.. Get a perm! I think this goes in Health. I dont think she wants it permanently straightened, just when she wants it straight, to stay that way the whole day. i`ve chemically straightened my hair. it works too. ![]() Indeed it does work... Freaking Relaxers *roll eyes* I hate performing them, but I only need about 8 more on my achievement sheet. ![]() Anyways, Do what holly said. Also, what kind of straightener do you have? Cause ceramic irons are really good. (depending on the quality) |

urm....before I got my hair permenately straightens, I bought this ceramic straightener from my hair stylist. They dont sell those in stores I think, so she ordered her from some hair company and sell it back to me for 50 bucks. It works really well, because I used to straight my hair after it dries, and it last for 2 or 3 days until I wash my hair again, and it makes my hair look really shiny and healthy instead of looking dry and stuff. So I would recomend it, the brand is Helen of troy.
