It is best if you wax your underarms regularly. Underarms generally look dark due to thick hair under the skin, caused by shaving. Waxing removes hair from the root, so there is no hair under the skin, and the underarms look clean. Also, regular waxing reduces hair growth over a period of time. How long it takes differs from person to person. Often, as soon as you wax for the first time after shaving for a long time, your underarms look much cleaner and lighter. This is because the hair is a lot thicker, so the wax gets a good grip and pulls it all out. There are chances your armpits may bleed very slightly, so don't get unduly worried if this happens.

Dark armpits is due to not changing your razor as often as youre supposed to. (Doctor told a friend of mine). I suggest you change your razor more frequently now from preventing it getting darker, but I don't know if you can get rid of it. Maybe wazing just once will change it a bit, if there are hairs the razor can't get out.

But yeah, my friend said that's what her doctor told her. Dark/black armpits are from using your razor for too long that you should without changing it.

my advice is to get them waxed I guess, but I dont think its a big deal :) I'm sure many people have dark armpits too, but if you want to do something about it, then try the stuff up there that the girls mentioned about. :)

u can't find them in the US i think. or if u do it's kinda rare. people in Asia are like obsessed with having fair skin while in the US people like haveing tans. so where i live there are whitening deoderants and they actually work too.

I need some help. I'm a half-asian girl with fair skin and dark hair, and my armpits look horrible from plucking. My armpit have turned dark, which is very embarrassing, and it seems that some of the root areas have darkened and sometimes look spotted/infected...redness and some are dark. I'm guessing this is because of tweezing/hair removal.

Should I see a dermatologist? Is there a home remedy? Or am I simply tweezing incorrectly? I've always been self-conscious about this, and now I finally want to do something about it.

How can I remove this darkness/spottiness, and all-around-disgusting-looking armpits effectively and safely?

Thanks for your help!

Hm. Do you wash your armpits regularly?

Also... when you pluck out hair that's not meant to be plucked out, there's a chance that you damage the papillae that's at the base of your hair follicle. When you do that, it ruptures the capillaries in that area and blood goes up through the roots. Since you pluck your armpit hairs out... I'm guessing that might be what's causing the spotted redness.

For the darkness.. I'd scrub regularly with soap. It should look cleaner within a week or so if you wash every day. I used to pluck and have that problem when I was about 13-14... and that pretty much solved everything.

Except... I don't pluck anymore. I don't really have a problem with ingrown hair, so now I shave.

Yes, don't pluck - shave. Venus razors work like a charm. Perhaps use some sugar scrub, and then soap. I use Dove deodorant, and it really does great things for the underarms.

As it has been suggested, wax, don't shave! And I wouldn't recommend bleaching as the area is highly sensitive. pinch.gif

I think it's because of your colorfulfont that causes you to have dark nasty armpits.

Anyways, don't shave your armpits. Use silk epil or like those plucking thingies, or just wax.

The papaya soap lightens your skin complexion? That seems fun. I got a really bad tan this summer. The soap seems tempting, but I don't see how soap OR papaya can help with your complexion?

Guess it depends on the ingredients of the soap. I use Pears with lemon extract and I think it lightens your skin a bit. Only slightly though. Lemon is supposedly a lightening reagent? shrug.gif

Not really. A lot of people do that, especially when they're still going through puberty and are just discovering their body.

Of course... it isn't a good idea to keep that method up... because it's time consuming and a little strange.

I don't see any problem shaving. Waxing still scares me.

Dark armpits come with darker skin, I suppose. I mean, most Asians or Mexicans are the ones whom are a little gray there. I just pluck; of course very carefully.

Papaya soap? I'll try it with shaving :]

I find it funny how some people in Asia are obsessed with lightening their skin[I'm Filipino, so no need to get mad] Like in the Philippines! Most of the stars/famous people have amazingly fair skin.

As for the dark armpits, use those bleaching soaps. They work. And make sure to change those razors regularly like everyone else said.

^ ah yes. the philippines is very abundant with papaya soap :D you can get papaya soap for, like, Php10! [less than a dollar?]

Papayas have this enzyme [or something like that] which strip your skin of dead skin cells and dirt, and target the melanin in your skin, making the skin seem lighter :D

i've tried papaya soap, but once you start, you shouldnt stop O_o i dont know why, but that's how it happened to me XD; 'cause when i stopped using the soap after i thought my skin was all even in color [i got a horrid tan once XD], my supposed tan came back O_o; hmm XD;

yeah, go look for those whitening deodorants... find them in asian stores, if you're in america... if you're somewhere in asia, go look in the deodorant section XD

um, nice font colors!? anyways... i'd think dark armpits would be caused by hair, so go ahead and wax them, or shave them a lot. i shave every 3 days or so and it's fine for me.

Heh. i don't find plucking weird. i started when i first realized i was going through puberty and a couple of dark strands were coming up. just a couple. so i plucked it. it didn't hurt and it didn't bleed. i've been plucking for 2 yrs now and my armpits never got dark. so when they grow back it's just a couple of strands. i think you got to start plucking when you first start realizing u hit puberty. cuz if it's too late and you start getting bushels of hair there than yah i would be sorta hard and long to pluck all those out.

i got this from one of my magazines that this one girl had the same condition

you could genetically have extra pigmentation there

you might have a condition called acanthosis nigricans, which has to dow with high insulin levels. if you're also dark aound your neck waistline or elbows see a doctor

you might have a buildup of dry skin thanks to antiperspirants and shaving

i have dark armpits too.
i searched up this topic cause i needed help too lol.
but what I do is i let my armpit hair grow out a bit , and i take tweezers and pluck out one hair at a time. it hurt at first, and somtimes it bled. but the results are great. it actually dosn't make your armpit look dark. and it helped me . man dark armpits made me soooo self conscious. i didn't even want to wear tank tops. but yep. papaya soap is great too. happy.gif
