Has anyone here ever read the novel Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson? It's kind of a nerdy book, but I imagine some people here are nerdy enough to have read it.

Seriously, no one? Shame. Someone should read it. It has everything: computers, philosophy, religion, Sumerian mythology, politics, economics... It's a good read.

I don't think I'll ever read it. It's too nerdy.

I really need to get around to reading this as well. We tried to get it passed through the school board in order to read it for Lit Guild, but they declined it. There's nothing bad in it, is there? huh.gif I couldn't imagine what. pinch.gif

Not really anything bad. There's one scene that refers to sex. That's about it.

The relevance of the novel should far outweight that.

Bahh. I detest our school board. They decline every book we give them. We're reduced to reading less-exciting books. We barely get by in our discussions. _dry.gif

It's a shame, it's a good novel to discuss. It's pretty complex, but complexity leads to better discussion.

I never read it through my high school, either. I first read it because my friend's dad was an English professor and used it in a class he taught; he thought I'd like it so he loaned it to me. I've reread it at least three times since then, maybe four.

Shame no one around here has read it—it's very interesting and deals with a lot of issues present in today's society. It's a good read if anyone's looking for something to read.

Did you ever pick it up?

I'm nearly done with it (for the fourth time, at least), so if you want to discuss, that'd be cool.

It's pronounced "David". No explanation is given for the use of the 5; best idea I've heard is that 5 == V in Roman numerals.

The fact that i actually want my child to be Y.T.

Do we ever hear her real name, ad I've just forgotten it, or not? Also, I realy want to know what happens to her...

I've studyied glossolalia once before (only the Biblical incedent), and I thought it was interesting to think of sounds as being kind of the fundamental bits of human programing, because if you think about it, it really makes sense... all our brains do is put them in order.

i alos thought the idea of the digital drug was really interesting, given that when the book was written, the internet wasnt as huge or as widely used by the average joe as it i now... I can actually see it happening if someone thinks hard enough about it. It also mad eme think of cb in way... i suppose forums like this are just the first step towards a metaverse...

Oh, and i want an avatar of a giant walking penis.
