Yeah
my parents obviously dont approve of my online freinds really....

Do your parents approve, or not, or just don't care about online freinds

and what are some of teh strangest explanations you have gotten to try to convicne you not to converse with online freinds?

My parents strongly disapprove because they think online friends could be serial killers, rapists, or identity thieves.

Therefore, I do not tell them about my online friends.

My parents are absurdly paranoid. It took me a very long time just to convince my mom that someone wasn't going to stalk me from my xanga. She found cB once and completely freaked out. I selectively clear my history now. So no, I could absolutely never tell her about my online friends. I thought she was getting better about it, but she isn't. She'd kill me if she knew I talked on boards like this, let alone that I've talked to people on the phone and have met up with people.

My mom is always warning me but she knows that I am going to have them anyway and I always bring up the fact that she met her boyfriend, who now lives with us, online, so she can't really say anything to me.

I remember. 'Es mi amige de internet' Lol.
Thats C00L.

My dad comes into my brother's room randomly and goes 'HEY ... YOU BETTER NOT BE TALKING TO WEIRDOS ! THERE'S WEIRD PEOPLE ONLINE ! DANGEROUS ... OKAY ? YOU UNDERSTAND ? OKAY YOU HEAR ME ?'

It's annoying. I just tell my parents they're friends from elementary school who moved away and I got in touch with them online.

I have a lot of online friends. I play MMORPGs (City of Heroes/City of Villlians currently) a lot and I end up making friends. I also spend a great deal of time here. (Although I never go to chat. I did the IRC thing a couple of times and that was really cool, so I really should try again).

Wait, Stefan, did your mom know that we met online before we went to the show? XD.gif And I don't know. I guess I'm with Dani.. my parents don't care that much. I know before when there was tons more cB drama, I'd get really upset over it, so she asked me what was wrong, and I ended up telling her about cB and everything then. It's weird, because she.. accepted it. I don't think she actually listened to me, though. I expected a different reaction, considering she's the mother that won't let my sister and I walk through the woods for a minute because she's afraid we'll get raped and murdered there. mellow.gif Oh, and Steph hates it because I talk to my online friends more than I do to her. rolleyes.gif What can I say.. they're a whole lot more interesting. shrug.gif

My parents never approved, until the day that this incredibly cute guy my mom had seen around my school started messaging me on Myspace. She saw his picture and flipped out and encouraged me to talk to him... it was odd. We're good friends now, but still, very awkward.

Well, my parents think that practically everything involved with the internet is dangerous. :shrug.gif: I think they have an idea that I chat/post with people that I do not know in person, so they tell me to be careful, and that people lie about their ages, appearances, etc. mellow.gif I understand their concern, but I do not go on dating sites or anything, and do not post half-naked pictures of me on MySpace.
