One thing I've always wondered is, when it comes to work, why do people choose to go to something they're not even that interested in. I have tons of friends who just say, "Oh yeah, I'll go into business or something", when often they don't even like it.

Is it just rare for people to find a career path that they truly want to do/like?

What's your passion in life?

My passion in life is music..but then I look at it as if the JOB I want most will be the JOB I'd be expecting less to get.

Do people go for business because they like it or because it's an option? Is it something you look forward to?

My passion is photography, if no one noticed. biggrin.gif

I'm already making some money off of it, so it's quite possible I could make a career out of it.

Well, a lot of times, people want to work to earn money and sometimes, pursuing their passions won't take them down that road.
Me, I'm really interested in medicine, etc so I would really like to become a doctor. This is my own choosing, not something my parents want me to do, though they don't mind it hah.

My passion in life is acting. I love acting. I hope to get famous so I can live doing what I love.

I also love music. If acting doesn't work out, I'd love to per sue a career in Music. Music is a living, but rock is life.

My passion is having special powers and becoming a superhero, though I doubt that's possible, so we shall go with my next passion, presentation, which is why I'm doing marketing.

I think its usually...becuase what peoepl like, they woudlnt be able to do it becuase their heads are in teh clouds, i mean , who doesnt want to be an actor, singer, model, or something of that nature? right?

Thats why they go for the most common thing i belive.

^_^

and so i obviously want to do something of those things...
model...sing....act....make movies even, i lvoe all of those things. but ill never make it

My passions are traveling & learning about different languages & cultures. I also love current events. All those passions point me to journalism. I'd love to be a foreign correspondent someday. I'm looking forward to traveling & experiencing the world while also telling everyone about it. And I'm determined to become a foreign correspondent someday, I don't care what anyone says. I'll start wherever I have to start & work from there.

Oh, who gives? We're talking about our passions in life. Just leave it at that. If it turns into a discussion about careers, we'll merge it with the career thread.

It's interesting you should mention this, because it's something I've observed many times at college. I'm a computer science student, and it's something I'm fairly passionate about—right now, I'm even planning on pursuing a doctorate in comp sci so I can work in a research-oriented field. As nerdy as it sounds, I actually spend a lot of time reading documentation for the languages with which I work, primarily C, Objective-C, and Java. I have well over a half gig of source code on my computer which I browse through in an attempt to learn something, and I actually help out with a couple open-source projects.

The thing is, most people I go to school with don't have that same level of passion for what they study. There are a few people who are really into their field, but a lot of students just seem to drift through college. They place more emphasis on partying than they do on the pursuit of real knowledge.

On the one hand, I feel that a lot of these people lack passion in life; but on the other hand, maybe they do have passion, but for something other than their career. Some people (myself included) are focused highly on career goals, but to others, a job is just a means to an end, the end being some other passion or pursuit.

Lol, that's what I thought too. Just thought I'd mention it because it does say "Careers" in the topic.
