I want a puppy. My own puppy. We already have a family dog, but he's old and not fun. And we're not exactly on speaking terms. So I want my very own puppy. But my parents wont let me get one because they don't think I'm "responsible" enough. pfft.

I plan on getting an italian greyhound, because that is what we currently have, and they're my favorite breed.

I already know how to take care of a dog, obviously, but they think that since it's not all my responsibility to take care of the family dog that I would flake out after a few weeks. But I wouldn't! I swear I wouldn't!

Have you ever been this predicament? And how did you convince your folks that you can handle it?

Well, you already said you know how to take care of a dog. But don't just tell your parents you're responsible, show them. Do more with your current dog, even though it's "old and boring," because someday, your adorable puppy is going to be that way as well.

Also, if you can, they might be more inclined to let you have a puppy if you offer to pay for it. (Not just buying it, but paying for its food, vet appts, etc.)

I would if I had a job. And not many places are willing to hire a thirteen year old.

It never happened to me because I have never wanted a pet before...
I feel weird like being the only one who doesn't like pets.

Aah. In that case, you should wait until you can either get a job or a place of your own. Or both. That would actually be the best thing to do.

I have a puppy. She's a dalamation breed. If you want a puppy, you're going to have to give it lots, and lots of attention. Puppies really like attention. I understand that you're Mom is concerned about you having a puppy.. because they are a handful mellow.gif.

I think the reason my parents dont want me to get one is because they are very much not animal people.

They joke around every day about how they can't wait for the dog I have now to die.

But they don't mean it. I know that deep down, they want to give me a puppy!

no no no no no you misunderstood me.

i love my current dog to death, it's just that when we got him i was an itty bitty kid and i didn't get to experience his puppy-ness.

and i want to!

and ferserious, all he does is sleep all day. and then my dad takes him running. and comes home and sleeps.

and i never said he was boring. i just said he was old.

Oh I sooooo want a dog and a cat. The problem is, my mom has this whole on again-off again, "I'm allergic to cats," drama which completely drives me nuts. I had a cat few years ago (my beautiful black cat Poe *sniff*) and my mom never sneezed, never wheezed, never sniffed. Yeah, whatever. I did sort of declare that I'm getting a puppy though, especially since we have a yard now. I'm getting a pug. I love them. They look so snooty, it cracks me up.

You should make one out of clay. Then you don't even have to take care of it. Just use some imagination. :D

Psshhh, I'm 17 and my parents won't let me have any pet. I had a dog up until I was 9, but she was bigger than me most of my life, so she kind of scared me... and then my parents gave her away. Pleghhh. My parents would never ever let me have one while I'm still living in their house, so I just go to my boyfriend's house all the time... they have 4 little shitzus, one of which they just got yesterday. I haven't even seen him yet pinch.gif *is anxious*

Yeah, I like the idea about showing more responsibility with your current dog.

Do you get allowance? Use that towards a dog. That'll impress your parents, haha.

I always wanted a hamster when I was a kid.. My parents just didn't want to deal with it and my mom was deathly afraid of rodents, so they always said no. Basically, I was a brat and whined enough until I finally got what I wanted. Definitely don't do that. =x

The thing got out of its cage like five times, and the last time it never came back. But I'll never forget my mom, scared to death, on the floor trying to catch that thing for me.
