I think they should at least give us a verbal warning first..That is unfair Agreed. And give us a definition of spam, because the old one is thrown out I think. I think the mods are confused as to what spam actually is, so of course we are. That's why there's so much "Err.. eh, I guess this will stay open" and "No, I don't think this is a good topic. This might be spam. Closed." I mean, to be fair, yes some people just flat out spam, but others sometimes don't even know they are spamming because one moderator's definition of "spam" is completely different from another moderator. If you were warned you should have gotten a verbal warning beforehand. I will put up a reminder backstage about that. Thank you. ![]() |

Calm the f**k down. Having warnings doesn't affect your posting abilities at all (atleast, I don't think it does). I was warned upto 70% and I had no restrictions, and had the same ability as the user who was never warned. Don't start quarreling on what is considered spam and what isn't; we've debated over that too many times before.

I think the mods are confused as to what spam actually is, so of course we are. I mean this in a nice way. Don't take it in a "well, whatever you stupid member" way. What is your defintion of spam? Backstage is just a bunch of threads. Nothing special? Aw, I wouldn't take it that way, haha. I'm really confused what spam REALLY is! That's why I brought it up. I think the mods are confused as to what spam actually is, so of course we are. That's why I said that. How am I suppose to know what spam is when it doesn't even seem like the mods themselves know? That's why I think the mods need to get togeather, TRULY discuss it, and come up with a definition that they ALL go by.

NO SPAMMING
Spam will in no way be tolerated. Spam can also be posting repeated, through different topics or repeatedly posting a topic that has been deleted by a mod. No one word replies, in that case no short posts such as "i don't know", "cool", "nice" and etc. as well as posts with only smileys (unless you're in the Sandbox aka Forum Games). Repetitive, copy and paste messages will not be tolerated. This is what i got from the forum rules. This does not explain much. This is totally different from what the mods consider spam. Iwant to know what they consider spam |

It's ridiculous. In January I heard from a friend that this place is all calm, laid back, and pretty much freaking awesome. I looked here for layouts for a while, then I joined, and I didn't really get what my friend described to me ![]() And it might take part in the dying of createblog. New members won't wanna stick around, and old members will either be too busy, grow out of it, or just not like it anymore cause nobody is here. |

Whatever "our definition" is
I mean, if you make a thread about kung fu fighting turtles, and everyone either talks about kung fu, or turtles, or both, then technically it's all on subject. It's just of a random sort of theme that everyone is staying on subject about. |

So, that..erm..Great Balls of Fire topic...would be considered spam? Hahaha, I think Sandra turned that into a spamfest. And I suppose that would be spam because there's no real content to it. It's just someone going on about their balls of fire. Even so, I'm still unsure. There's still no set definition on what spam is. |

I'd have to agree with Seon Ho on this. I can't count how many times we've had this conversation.
I really don't like how people view the mods as power-hungry or indecisive, when it's really very difficult to control the forums around here. What with all the people that try to make things difficult. Mods are not all "AY! Ah am a mod, and YOU WILL RESPECT MAH AUTHORITAH!" Sorry, I just had to urge to steal a catchphrase from Cartman. ![]() By the way, forum rules, as far as I can remember, has not been updated in a while. I think the mods should get around the updating official stuff once in a while. My definition of spam is:

I think the truly commited members should form a campeign of some sort...make a banner to put in people's sigs. Then all the "committee" members can go around telling people to sign a petition. Hahh. That'd be cool... Wow, I really like that idea! It'd make it eaisier on the mods too. I know it's hard for you guys trying to please everyone. You should see what the mods think of that idea. I'd be all for it. ![]() |

Okay. Thread made. At the very early hours of the morning. I ramble too much. What would a campaign do? I think what she means is that certain serious active members should get together and have ideas about what they want based on their ideas and the ideas of other members and sign petitions. Then, once they have enough signatures, they present that to the mods and if the mods see enough support, they'll consider it. I guess it's kind of like PDA meetings and meetings at town centers where the community presents their ideas/concerns to the committee and the committee puts together a petition and presents it to the county government. |

Oh yeah I don't think the mods are power hungry or anything like that. I like how they are doing their job. It just seem like different mods has a different deffinition of spam. (refering to the first part of Gigi's post) Nah, I wasn't talking about you guys. I'm referring to some other members, but I might be wrong about them. Also, is the forum rules thread the ONLY thread on here that has a definition of spam(a poor one, at that)? If that's the case, then this'll just be a matter of updating the thread with more specifics and detail. |

I do...but..i'm a "the-glass-is-half-empty person" and I think something could go wrong. What exactly? Im not sure but, -sigh- I can't explain myself. What would the petition state? You shouldn't ask for signatures, but rather short paragraphs based on what they want about spam and whatever else. |

I always thought that that's what the Feedback and By-Laws forums were for. Though, I never really went there that much. I guess the thing is those places don't really get that much attention from regular members. The petition idea does sound interesting though. |

That'll get rid of the confusion and the various opinions and definitions of what spam really is. |

I found something about spamming in the community guidelines..It is a bit more specific than the Forum rules
POINTLESS POSTS To enhance the experience of these forums, please do not post just for the sake of posts counts. We care more about what you say than how many times you can hit the "add reply" button. Spamming is a BIG no-no here. This includes double posting (posting two or more posts in a row), repeated posts (even in different threads), and anything unrelevant to the topic at hand. |

The community rules should apply to all of the forums, with a few exceptions. I suppose the rules in each forum are just a heads up and specific rules about certain forums.
Though I can see how you might want the definition of spam updated. |

I think instead of signatures..you should ask for small paragraphs stating what they, the person, want in terms of rules about spamming and such?

It's a shame. :\ But I think this will be more of a "hands on" interaction rather then just posting about it. QUOTE You shouldn't ask for signatures, but rather short paragraphs based on what they want about spam and whatever else. Ohhh, I like that idea. Gives more meaning and understanding. Yes, that should work.
:] But there still should be some way of advertising (gah..even if it is against the forum rules i guess) the petition so it gets around to people who really care about the community. Brenden, you should be my partner-in-crime. hah. |

I really like how the community actually does want to improve Createblog.
I suppose the Lounge gets the most attention, I'm sure the other mods would agree on keeping a feedback-y thread here since the feedback doesn't really get that much attention. You would be able to advertise the petition by linking on your board signatures. |

Not on the spamming issue, but on the original topic--
I understand that the moderators have been told by Jusun to not be so strict (something along those lines), and they are a lot more lenient now than before. However, it seems that although posting guidelines are supposedly more lax, warning seems to be more rampant (or so this thread says). I haven't seen Kathleen spam, but she does post a lot. Even if you wanted to consider her posts spam, would the quality (or lack thereof) or quantity be on par with the old spam fests on cB? Hardly. If the rules are supposed to be more permissive than before, than the consequence should not, I believe, come more quickly, which it seems is the case now. Mods used to be hesitant to even give out verbal warnings, but now they don't even give them out? .... I'll let that speak for itself. Also, someone said early on that everyone should be modded, and they were clearly just joking around. However, I know that some members have had issues with the moderating team as a whole--hell, I was one of them, and may possibly still be. Ultimately, the problem is that it's the same general group of people holding power. Yes, I understand that under the new bylaws, the new moderator hiring process supposedly (finally) includes input from the community, but what it boils down to is that it's still the headstaff and administrators choosing. Out of those top moderators, how many of them are in touch with members outside of the actual forums? I know it's not a requirement, but it does make for better morale, right? How many of them will go and chat up with newer or lesser known members? Again, it's not required, but it would sure as hell make the mods seem to be less elitist to the community, on both counts. Because there does exist a backstage that is there for organizational purposes, the moderators grow closer to each other and due to that, sometimes (especially in the past) form pockets of regular members who are unhappy with the decision making (namely hiring). btw, I suck at putting my thoughts into words when I'm tired so don't hold it against me. ;_; I think what she means is that certain serious active members should get togeather and have ideas about what they want based on their ideas and the ideas of other members and sign petitions. Then, once they have enough signatures, they present that to the mods and if the mods see enough support, they'll consider it. Um.. bylaws? ._.edit - Aw, fuck my post was on the bottom of the page. *sad* |
