hah, yeah. i need help on that too. i'm starting HS on September 5th.

i'll go ask my sister or something tomorrow. right now, it's too late at night.

if you want to give people a good first impression, just be yourself. they'll accept you for who you are.

oh, and about greeting people, just be like "oh, hey! i'm ______. so you're in my ___________ class right? oh that's cool. blah blah blah." something like that. just be like really outgoing and stuff.

but then again i wouldn't know much because i haven't even started HS yet..

^ Actually the things you mentioned were pretty good.

Do you know anyone in the other grades? Maybe hang out with them..

Really, it's not as bad as it seems. I was kind of nervous too when I was an incoming freshman. As long as you be yourself, it's all good.

::sigh:: Feels like yesterday I started high school, and now I'm becoming a junior. crazy.

good luck lol.

it's really not as bad as it looks on tv. i was super nervous when i started but really, it's just like all the other grades. i don't know if it has to do with schools or what but pretty much all of the grades at my school get along. the only people who mess with freshmen are assholes to begin with.

My plan when I go to high school is pretty simple, ignore everyone you don't know and focus on friends and schoolwork.

Ahh. I just hung out with my old friends from middle school all year. I barely made any new friends. Don't do what I did, just be yourself and don't be annoying to the upperclassmen.

good luck! it's really not that bad.

Don't be an attention whore. Be yourself, that way you would receive a good first impression.

Being am underclassman isn't that bad, if you don't do anything stupid, no one is gonna pick on you.

I'm starting freshman year also on Sept. 5th. I was browsing around like myspace in the school threads, and i came across this topic, and they were talking about how if you're -insert 237493279 labels- then you're gonna get a beating and alla that. But that didn't really get to be cause it was mainly directed to guys. I guess make friends of your age and stick with them, and don't get in the way of the upperclass men.

I'm going to be a junior, so I've been there, done that. My brother always said that freshman year was horrible, that you get picked on and made fun of, but I had the complete oppisite experience. The upperclassmen were nice and showed me around and then never laughed or made fun of us cause we were freshman. Of course jokes will circulate about it being your first year in high school and how you're going to get "corrupted" or "dirtied" but it's all untrue and it dies down pretty quick. Upperclassmen will mind their own business usually, just don't upset anyone. My advice for freshman:

1. stick close to people you know, whether they be in your won grade or not, it's always easier to handel a tough situation with more people around you.

2. don't ask for it. What I mean is, don't put yourself in a situation you know will result badly.

3. don't hesitate to see a guidance counsoler, they're there to help.

4. If you get lost, ask someone where to go, you really don't want to be late... ever.

As for first impressions, be yourself, it's cliche and all, but it works. You want to be comfortable with the people that you make friends with. Lunch isn't too big of a deal, you're bound to see someone you know in there. Also, a good safety is to find someone in your class right before luch you want to sit with, if you know them it's even better but if you don't intriduce yourself and then after class ask if they'd like to sit with you.

It's not so bad. Make sure that you at least seem confident, even if you have to fake it. Smile and surround yourself with friends. Make sure you do your work, just so you don't get held back, and you'll be fine.

well, when i was a freshman last year...i stuck with my friends from middle school until i branched out and made new, older friends. if you go into high school with a "high and mighty" attitude, people will immediately dislike you. dont give anyone a reason to have problems with you.

Just try not to talk or mess with the upperclassmen.. you'll meet some nice ones along the way but most of them hate freshmen, not like they'd do anything though.

But overall, be yourself and make some friends.. freshmen year was an exciting year for me, I guess lol. Everything is new, and you're gonna have to adapt to the highschool life. Expect to see some changes though as time goes by, some of the people you'll talk to in the first year you won't even see/talk to as much in the later years.

lol hmmm being a freshmen, I remember Freshmen Friday, Though I've seen it I was never messed with even if I was a freshmen, so firstly be yourself, don't try to be a follower, its your turn to stand out, make your own clique, and be acknowledged, do good in school pay attention and make right decisions. thats about it

I'm gonna be a freshman in public high after having been homeschooled since late elementary...so I've never even been to a middle school, never dealt with different teachers or changing classes or lockers or anything. This thread helps a bit..

Its isn't bad at all, or at least it wasn't when I was a freshman. Don't get all nervous and just relax. All the other freshmen are in the same boat as you and there are usually at least a few upper class-men willing to point you in the right direction. If worse comes to worse, just laugh at your own lack of knowledge regarding what the heck you should be doing.

Just have fun with it, and remember there is no pool on the third floor.

i'm going into high school this year too (but it's 10th grade)... i'm going to try to remember people's faces quickly, so i can make more friends. it seems like it's easier to make friends at the beginning then anytime else.

My best advice is for you to act as normal as possible. Don't try to fit in too much, because then you might get labeled a try-hard. Don't worry about it, Have fun.

i agree. just be yourself.

but in easier words.. don't stand in the hall way please. lol. and dont assume that you're better than everyone else. i hate it when freshmen do that. not saying that you will, but when a whole group of freshmen get together, they just automatically assume that. blah.

BE INVOLVED!
i regret not being invovled. seriously, you get to meet all sorts of people who love doing the things you like to do.

and try to be friends with some upperclassmen, but don't try too hard. if it was meant to be, then it was meant to be.

you can try greeting random people if you want; i did before. try to be friends with the people your friends met. sit with anyone you can find at lunch or you could try sitting iwth random people.

the thing about being a freshman on the first day means you don't have to know EVERYONE becaues chances are other people are as worried as you.

Okay here are some advice:

-Don't have a really big bookbag (especially for the guys) because the upperclassman really hate it, if you have one in the hallways, they tend to push you. All you really need is a tote or a small jansport.
-Don't be scared..Try making new friends by introducing yourself and get involve in clubs.
-Be yourself..Oh yea and don't interfere with the upperclassman because they can be either nice or mean and will give you a really bad year.
-DO NOT GET INVOLVE WITH PEOPLE THAT LIKES TO GOSSIP!!! If you do then you will have rumors spending like crazy..Well, for my school, if there was a rumor spending, believe it or not the whole entire school will know about it in just one period!
-If you want to make some friends before school start try going on Sconex.com.

Hopefully this will help you guys :). And if you have any questions feel free to ask.
