wa;ehgd;gh I DID EVERYTHING CORRECTLY MINUS GOING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT A BIT. ;zehgd;dfh *Rips hair out* I even got the parallel parking correct the first try. stubborn.gif Anywho, as I was telling Cliff (he lives in Texas, mind you) this, he asked how I did with the written test, but in Pennsylvania, we don't need to take one - just a road test - in order to acquire your license. So we can get our permits at 16 and eligible for the test at 16 1/2. How is it in your states?

We have to take a written test, and we can get our permits after the test at 15 1/2. We have to hold the permit for at least 6 months before taking the road test and getting our license at 16. We have to drive umm 50 hours prior to it and 10 hours of it at night. Plus, we have a curfew for 3 months of having our license..it was before 10 I think. And we cannot drive anyone under 18 until we are 18..but I don't understand because a bunch of people under 18 never followed that rule :P

Eh, don't worry about it, you'll get it. When I was 16 in MA we had to pass a written and a driving test, though.

EDIT// Just read the whole question...

When we were 15 we could do the written test and get a permit. At 16, you did your road test after you earned so many (I think 25) hours of experience.

Mm ours is sixth months as well with fifty hours, but we don't have the ten-hours-of-it-at-night thing. You only have curfew for three months?! ohmy.gif We have it until we get our Senior Licenses.

Here, when you get your license under eighteen years of age, you get a Junior License. When you turn eighteen, it turns into a Senior License and everything is good. With the Junior License, you have a curfew at eleven.. and I think there are other things. Senior Licenses are the regular licenses. Basically, Pennsylvania is lame.

Oh in that case, if you get some kind of permission or proof from your employer and you somehow get caught (driving past curfew is a second offense, so you have to have been doing something else obviously wrong before getting a ticket for driving out late), you're good. I know because I volunteer at a haunted house with my friends and they're all my age.. so we had to get slips signed for when we drove home.

I have to wait another two years just to try to get my permits. -___-
I think in NY, you have to take both the written and road test. I'm not sure though.

In Indiana, we can get our permits at age 15, no driver's ed required... and actually, you're not required to take driver's ed - an adult can teach you, but if you go that route, there's extra tests.. so no one does that. Why no driver's ed? Because we have lots of hicks out here that drive trucks at age 13 and tractors at age 8. I'm not one of them, really I'm not. I "live in the city"

So... we can get our licenses at age 16 and one month after we've passed the written and driving tests. But my license branch was so stupid that they forgot to give me my driver's test... I kept my mouth shut pinch.gif and got my license anyway. HAHAHA. My friends hate me for that.

In Pennsylvania we don't have to take driver's ed, either, although there are classes offered and schools, but I guess that's because the parents are too lazy. laugh.gif Gah it seems like everywhere one can be fifteen for the permit! Not fair! hammer.gif

Kathleen, I just failed my test today too.

*Screams* I DID EVERYTHING RIGHT TOO!!!!!!

Parallel parking = check
Turnabout = check
Backing up = check.

I bascially passed, until right when he told me to pull over he said,

"You just stopped a foot past the stop sign. You failed."

aslhfkjsdhfksdjfhakjsdhfkjshfjkdshfks.
So make sure to come to a complete stop right before the stop sign.
Right before that freakin' white line.

O_o kathleen.

>_> All you have to do is relax. Collect your thought's and imagine yourself doing decent. you don't have to be perfect. just pretend the instructor isn't there next to you judging every move. Silly stubborn.gif

Check list you should memorize for next time.

Get In Car.
Fasten Seat belt.
Start Ignition.
Check ALL Mirrors At Start.
(NO RADIO ON driving instructors find it offensive)
Emergency Brake (Release)
Foot On Brake
Switch Gears
Release foot on break
(treat gas pedal like an egg. Have foot lightly set upon it)
Press gas don't go above (25mph)
Both hands on the Wheel.
(continuesly check mirrors during driving every 5-15 sec)
(Try to have you main focus directed towards the road. Do not turn your head to talk to the instructor)
Make sure you use turn signals on every turn.
When parellel parking(on the right). use the mirrors on your right hand side. AND REMEMEBR OBJECTS APPEAR CLOSER THEN THEY REALLY ARE.
On the left The Mirror is more Acurate.
And last but not least(Switch gears to park. pull Emegency Break after completion of parking excersize)

Good luck kathleen thumbsup.gif

Dude, I failed my test the first time for the same reason.

Here, you get your permit at 15, the day you turn 16 you can take your written test, and a month after you turn 16 you can take the road test and get your license.

Here in BC, Canada, at 16 you can take your written test to get your L or permit then after 1 year or 9 months if you take driving school, you take your road test to get your N which is a license with a lot of retarded rules. After 2 years, you can take another road test to get your full license. It's stupid.

My instructor was evil - he made me continue - here I thought I had passed since he didn't say anything.

Same for me my first time. Here's my story. =]

I got my driver's license in Texas my senior year of high school. Passed the test just fine, no problems whatsoever. The license was to expire on my 18th birthday, but I had moved to Oklahoma and was just planning on getting it renewed there. I went up about two weeks before my birthday, and the person told me, "Wait until you turn 18, it's just right around the corner. If we do it now, we'll need a signature from your mom and a note from your high school." Both of those were in Texas. I decided to wait.

My birthday was on a Sunday. The place is closed on Mondays. So I went in on Tuesday, and she said, "Oh.. your license expired the day before yesterday.. We can't renew an invalid license, you're gonna hafta retest." Esljtsdfjgfuitsr; yeah. _dry.gif

So a few months later I got a car and went in to take the test. I could only take the written test, so I did that, passed, whatever. I decided to get my permit in the meantime until I was able to make it in for the driving test, and that way I'd be able to drive a bit with Brandon since he's 21. I was totally ready the next Friday, so I went in and the woman told me, "Wait a minute.. You just got your permit last week. You have to wait 30 days before taking the driving test. February 16 is the date issued on your permit, March 16 is a Thursday and we won't do testing on Thursdays, so come in on that Friday the 17 to take your test." _smile.gif

Friday the 17, I walk in and the woman is like, "Okay, it's saying now that it hasn't been fully thirty days.. What's the deal.." and she's sitting there trying to figure it out, when finally I say, "Okay, so February has 28 days, tomorrow will be day 30, can you not just make an exception?" Obviously she didn't.

So the next week I go in to take the test. I wait for like two hours for someone to come out to the car, and finally she shows up. Turn signals, horn, start the car. Parallel parking, fine. Drive around the corner, left turn. I'm driving on the road, and there's like a box sitting right in the middle. So I slow down, use the shoulder to get around it, and keep going. I go back to the testing site, feeling like I've done everything perfectly. She then proceeds to tell me that since I used the shoulder, that is an automatic failure and I can come back in next week.

Hell yes I'm back the next week, I need to get this over with. It's a different woman. This time I'm WAY nervous, and I mess up a bit on the parallel parking, I make a really sharp left turn, I come back to the site KNOWING that I messed up bad but part of me is thinking "No way.. I can't fail twice. Surely not." Her reason for failing me: the sharp turn and a speed limit violation, which must have been me not paying attention because I was so nervous. I cried.

So yeah, I have the test memorized now but I'm nervous as hell to go back and take it. The last time I took the test was in April. It's coming up on August 14, which will be ONE YEAR since I've been trying to get my driver's license. So yeah, definitely don't feel bad. _smile.gif

I didn't have to take a written test to get my permit... it was just a multiple choice test on the computer, that I happened to fail the first time. But I've had my permit for a little over a year, and I'm in Drivers Ed all this week and I take my driving test in the first week of August. Wish me luck... oy. pinch.gif

Well, in Florida, you can get your learners permit at 15. You have to take a course either at the license office or online and then take a test over it. I did mine online, but failed the test the first time.

You can get your actual license at 16. I know you have to take a driving test, and I think some other type of test. I'm 17, and I only have my learners. mellow.gif

i failed my first time, too, but then past the next day by 2 points.

in missouri, you get your permit at 15 and have to have it for 6 months (but most people have it for a year because they get it on their 15th birthday and you cant get your license until you're 16). the permit test is just done on a computer in which it gives you 4 answers and you just pick one. to get your license, you just have to take a driving test.

kathleen- that's an early curfew. i think in missouri its 1 am for intermediate licenses (your junior license).

Yeah, I think there's usually points, because one of my friends said he got an 88. He drives incredibly carefully...very slowly.

An actual written test would suck. It'd be really impractical, too.

here in texas, i forgot what age you can drive at. i think its 16..im not sure.

you have to take a written test

then study/learn how to drive. you can do that either by learn how to drive from
-being taught by your parents
-or taking a driver's ed class.

here in va you have to be 15 and 6 months to get your permit and then you have to wait 9 months before you can get a temporary licenscens then you got to wait 90 days and take some driving thing before you get a permanent licences....so yeah you can't get your permanent licences until you 16 and 5 months

15 and a half is when you can take drivers ed. Then you must sign up for drivers training. Thent ake written for permit(which expires in 1 year). Then wait 6 months(during this, you need to finish drivers training) then you can take the road test to get your license.

They made me do parallel parking, 3 point turn/Turnabout, and Backing up a certain amount of feet. And they also take points off if you don't do the little stuff. Such as turning your head to check "traffic" when you didn't even realize that "traffic" means the woods off to the left of the course. Also put on your blinkers every single time you turn, no matter if there is only one way to go. Just turn your head like the exorcist chick every which way before you go. Coming to a complete stop BEFORE THE WHITE LINE!!! ah.

Tis' okay I'm re-taking it Friday. Not half as afraid to fail as I was the first time, Since i've experienced that gut-wrenching-heart-sinking feeling. However, I'd like to go in, claim that sucka and walk out and drive away. I have to be at a concert that night. I need to be able to drive there.
