What's going to be the next "South?" Do you think hyphy will take the country by storm? Will the East re-claim it's throne? Or perhaps there will be an upstart by the unlikely Baltimore club scene? Will DC go-go finally get its moment to shine?
What do you think it'll be? |

Out of those, I really hope DC Go-go gets a little more popular. At least the whole hip-hop/go-go infusion. I mean, if Crazy In Love, One Thing, and Take This Ring, were all good hits!

^ I know, right? And after, like, 30 years in existence, it's just time.

Im not sure about the hyphy movement, because its full of BaySlang and BayTalk and unless you're from the Bay you wont understand and people will think its just a bunch of rappers talkin' nonsense, when Bay kids actually understand. As much as I'd love to see the Bay blow up, the world just aint ready.

Too bad for Mac Dre no one really even knew about him until he died. Now he's the "best" rapper from the Bay. IMO Andre Nickatina > Mac Dre and the whole Hyphy stuff.

Yeah I like Nikatina, but I'd pick Dre over Andre. You from the bay ? bay's dead already .. rest in peace .. 2006-2006 no hate though .. How could the Bay 'die' if it was never alive. The Hyphy movement hasn't caught on past the Bay and the Valley because nobody else understands what the hell the musics about. Im not so sure about the East tho. It's promising but not sure. |

good question. yo i dunno. I see no sign from any other of those new places u just mentioned. Dc, baltimore.... no proof of them.
i'm hoping the east will come back and knock some EFFING sense into the rap world. And the south needs to just die. They're killing hip hop |

good question. yo i dunno. I see no sign from any other of those new places u just mentioned. Dc, baltimore.... no proof of them. I'm not surprised you haven't heard of go-go or Baltimore house music. It's a regional thing. For an accessible introduction to go-go, check out the myspace of this cat named Wale. He's made a hip-hop/go-go hybrid by mixing in go-go samples in his music. The second and third songs on there get a decent amount of airplay on the radio here (the DC area). As for Baltimore club music, check out "Jiggle It" by Young Leek. He just got signed to Def Jam, so if you haven't heard this song yet, you will. It's a blend of hip-hop and club so it should, again, be pretty accessible. And for a B'more club classic, listen to "Percolator" by Cajmere. |
