So I know a lot of you must have myspaces. I don't have one. I've been questioning for a long time whether or not to actually get one. I want one, just because everyone else does... but that doesn't seem like a valid enough reason. There are definatly more cons than pros to getting one.
First off, I wouldn't have any friends. Second, I heard that it's really 'sketchy' how old men try to add young girls as friends. Any words of wisdom?? |

If you have no friends (I bet you have friends, though. Nobody has no friends.), then don't bother. If sketchy old men add you to their myspaces, don't accept them, period. Don't even accept friend requests from people you don't know.

Myspace is a great way to connect with friends and/or get to meet some new people (most are old men). So I wouldn't bother getting into myspace if you wouldn't have any friends on it in the first place.

I was reluctant to get one at first. It seemed to be such a popularity performance and most of the sites I'd seen were saturated in pretension. My sister ended up getting one eventually and I found that it was actually a really good, one-shot way of keeping in touch with people. That's what I use it primarily for.
I haven't really blogged much there because I did most of that at Xanga. However, since the circle of online friends I'd had when I created my Xanga and I have drifted apart (to say the very least), I don't blog much there either. |

Blehck, when I had my myspace I hated it. It's the slowest site in the world because of all the damned advertisements. It's completly worthless unless you actually NEED the networking for your career (like bands, artists, and actors). Every one on there comes off as a cliched, self-obessesed freak. Seriously, stick to something that won't waste your time. I think regular xangas or livejournals are much better than myspace.

Myspace is awesome.
Just make an account. Try it out for awhile. You can have fun with layouts. And commenting other people. If you dont want some old farts adding you then set your profile to private. |

You'll be surprised at how many people you'll find online that have a myspace. The only problems on myspace are...the addiction and the errors that occur everytime you click.

All of the friends that I have on myspace are people that I know - they make up like 75% of my myspace friends, and the rest are artists.
I have not encountered any creepy old men =] |

Eh, I've had my share of old men trying to add me and weird messages from them. Basically, I just use it to keep in touch with people. Eh. I don't like messng around with layouts there. I used to, but after over a year, I just really keep up with commenting people back.
Ehh I don't think this post made sense. |

I've been thinking whether or not to get a myspace as well.
I think Myspace really revolves around "friends." Part of the reason it sometimes becomes a popularity contest. But yes, it is a good way to keep in touch with your friends. I don't really need to "keep in touch" with my friends since we see each other often, but if I were to get one anyway, it'd be because I do photography, and I can promote myself there. |

don't get one. even if "everybody else has one," your own friends in real life don't, so why would you care if anybody else has one?

I would get one, Just dont add people you dont know.
And about the sketchy old men, first off, Ive never had one bother me.. and secondly, just dont give out your information.. its that simple. I like Myspace.. Just because I have a lot of friends/family on their. It's a good way to keep in touch with people you dont see often. edit// If your friends IRL dont have one, I wouldnt get one. |

Okay, myspace is not bad. It's the stupid young girls (no offense) that do stupid things like add old men and meet up with people from online and the stupid parents for not knowing any of this and letting their children get on myspace when there is an age limit.
For people within age limit, there should be enough common sense in them to avoid old men. Personally, there has been no disgusting old men that have added me. Hardly any strangers added me because I don't add people I don't know. Not even one. There are way more pros than cons for me. I get to talk to people I haven't seen for a long time and get to know some more people. Myspace is meant for good, it's just that so many people join, there are some stupid people that manage to ruin the real fun. |

i use myspace to keep in touch with everyone. but after time, myspace does get boring. the only thing thats new is the comments/messages people may leave. the myspace games are pretty fun (:
and about the old weird creepy guys adding young girls, just set your myspace on private and dont approve them of being on your friends list. And you'd be suprised at how many girls are on myspace that are trying to be something their not and trying to be older & adding like a gajillion friends that they have no clue who they are. |

Myspace is meant for good, it's just that so many people join, there are some stupid people that manage to ruin the real fun. I agree 100%. All that crap on the news is just what the "news" wants to put out for publicity. I'm sure there are plenty of other sites where kids have hooked up with old men and been molested and what not, but you don't hear about those. The "news" just picks on MySpace because it's a popular teenage fad and they know they'll draw attention that way. If you're not a dumbass, you won't have any problem. And all those girls on the news are idiots. Why would you even try to meet up with someone alone that's twice your age? Idiot, idiot, idiot. And for the girls who are molested who don't try to meet up with the men, but are tracked down by them, it's still partially their fault. Don't "add" strangers or someone who's twice your age. Simple. Anyway, MySpace is fun and I love it. If you do get one, kiss your summer vacation goodbye, cause you'll be hooked for a month or two, haha. And I guarantee that you know at least 20 people who have a MySpace if you look for them. Nearly everyone at my school has a MySpace. |

Some of my friends kept nagging me to get a myspace but i was reluctant b/c i didn't want to just get one because it was the new trend (plus my parents watch all those new reports about the creepy old men and I knew they wouldn't like finding out that I had a myspace) but when i did make one, i really liked it. It's easy to keep in touch with people even if you don't see them that often, you can just drop them a comment once in a while. And as for those creepy old men, no one can comment you unless you accept them as a friend, so if you wanna be cautious, just don't accept friend requests from people you don't know. Okay, myspace is not bad. It's the stupid young girls (no offense) that do stupid things like add old men and meet up with people from online and the stupid parents for not knowing any of this and letting their children get on myspace when there is an age limit.
