All of a sudden I find my time extremely stretched (and my caffeine addiction worsening). Today I was enlisted to help on yet another project that I don't have time for. I do a lot of school work during the summer (no, not summer school), but I also tend to over exhaust myself as well. I just hope I can do it all.

So, how is your summer? Are you busy? What projects are you doing?

Tomorrow, I have an academic orientation at my university. All throughout summer, I'll be going to orientations and workshops I've signed up for. As well, I have to complete a skin tuberculosis test in order to start volunteering at a hospital. I'm hoping I'll still be able to volunteer in August. I'm really not too busy, but I'm relaxing when I can and read/watch Harry Potter.

What are the school projects you're involved in? Anything exciting?

Me? Absolutely nothing, just finishing my home school courses. I'm also trying to read more, I haven't had much time to read anything lately. (Hopefully soon it will be Harry Potter.) A friend of mine also started a webzine I'm trying to help out on and I really, REALLY need to clean my room. wacko.gif

What kind of workshops are you going to?

My first and only well defined project was to reread all the Harry Potters. Knocked that out in a week and a half, and wound up with a job, so all my other half-formed plans got forgotten.

The workshops are on learning how to write assignments sufficient for college/university. In both humanities and life science courses.

I told myself before summer started that I would read and re-read all the Harry Potter books. I read the 4th, 5th, and 6th. So now, I'm starting from the beginning and re-reading all of them. Since I have other things to do at the moment, I've taken a break. I'm going to start the 3rd one tomorrow.

I'm not doing summer school or anything, so I'm basically free for the summer, although I'm working really hard to get my online fashion magazine out.

I'm the co-editer-in-chief and we're trying to think of a really great name for it so that we can buy a domain. And, I've been working on some articles - I'm busy, but, really excited.

Also, I've been trying to get some volunteer work done.

Well, I'm taking summer classes for about a month, and I have papers to write for that. And, I'm working 3 days a week, so that takes up time too.

But, I have orientation for college on Monday for 3 days and I'm excited about that.

Drums - Learn them. Join a band. Jam. Play some punk rock.
Movies - Watch them. Alot of them. Understand the art. Learn of the art.
Film - Make them. Write them. Direct them. Have fun with them.
Zine - Write it. Distribute it. Like it. Continue with it.

Film a horror flick. Film Hubert The Horse Harraser. Do another short. Write the horror flick. Form a punk band by the name of Skull f**k Machinegun. Write and begin to distribute my zine Trepa*Nation. This among other things.

Well, I don't distribute yet. However, I plan to start distribution at the beginning of this school year. It will be a zine for general social criticism. Highlights on philosophy, politics, and science. Values rooted in rationalism. Ontop of that, film and music reviews among other content. It'll be called "Trepa*Nation" (AKA Trepanation), named after the world's oldest known surgical procedure. I still needs interested writers and artists, but for now I'm fine. I have some articles written on religiousity, some literature based criticism, and film reviews already. I have some stuff from a friend on alternative energy, and I hope to get some more stuff soon.

It'll most likely be small stappled booklet of sorts.
No bigger in dimension than an average piece of folded paper.
Maybe a dozen pages or so? All depending on the level of content present.
Of course, this can all change during the development. But, this'll be a good start. Once I get a better feel for what it needs, I can adapt.

It should be a free publication. If I need to start printing more and more paper, I may need to charge a quarter or two for each copy. Either way, I would be encouraging donation to further the project.

As it being just a simple zine, I'll distribute by hand within local areas. Try to get a street crew going, maybe. whistling.gif

That sounds really nice. It cost me about.... I believe, 60 dollars an issue at Kinko's. So you might want to shop around on prices, unless you have a friend who has a copy machine. I'm sure you know to avoid franchises and such. Used book stores, record stores, comic stores, and if you have a Hastings... oh yes and coffee houses!!! You might want to try putting up signs or little logos to get people interested. Just make sure you get dedicated people. How are you doing the cover art?

Ohhh, you write a Zine? Let me know about it!
But, printing, I have a friend who has access to a free copy machine.
Yeah, I need some dedicated people. Cover art, havn't really decided yet, but I'm thinking every issue will have a picture themed around trepanation. But, for a style, I want a mixture of hand written and typed work. Also, digital art as well as sketches. Black and white, of course.

I produced one last summer. It died because I didn't get dedicated people. ermm.gif I type set the whole thing out on Word and by hand at my art desk. It was fairly popular when it ran, one of the writers was going to school in Boston so she distributed some there. It was basically giving writers and artists a showcase. A few people have asked me if I'm doing it this summer, but I'm involved with a webzine called SHOUT!

What's the title of it or do you know it yet? How are you putting it together?

Interesting. Yeah, I have been wanting to do this for about a year now. Just thinking about it. Now, this summer is the time to actually get the first issue out there and get this thing rolling. It'll probably be a monthly publication.

I want to cut and paste, yes.
However, I want to incorporate some digital work too. So, I'm not positive.
But, for the most part I imagine it being cut and paste. A mix of typed and handwritten work. Same with the art. I want to try for alot of critical feedback from readers, since it will be such a heavily opinionated work. I plan on trying to include thoughtful criticism (within the zine, in a dedicated section) with meaningful responses, if possible. But, to say the least, I'm rather excited.
