Who's your favorite director(s)?
I'd have to say my #1 is probably Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket). Actually, definitely. There's a couple close runner-ups. |

My favorite director is David Lynch (Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Muholland Dr.). I tend to enjoy directors who can fit into auteur theory, I found their work more interesting as a result. I like Mr. Lynch's common themes and visual style. As David Lynch is a very strong auteur, I find him, easily, very appealing.
Oh, Sammi! I would definately say that Wes Anderson is a modern auteur. The guy has a very defined style, and easily repeating themes. I like him alot.  And, as you know, my favorite Anderson is still The Royale Tenenbaums. |

Haha, I was waiting for you to post.
Unsurprisingly enough, Bottle Rocket is my least favorite of his films. The other three are very similar; that one's kind of not as similar. You know? Rushmore is still my favorite. And, now that I'm talking to Tony an incredible amount, I have someone else who I can be totally SO into Rushmore with! Wahoo! (He thinks it's the best film ever) |

Def Baz Luhrmann, he directed Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet. . . His use of color is amazing, just his vision for the movie is. . . ah, just so artistic, and a genious really. Great director.
Spielberg - you know that whatever he does will be good. George Lucas - Always has been a fav of mine, always been a big fan or Star wars. Nora Ephron - You've Got Mail, Sleepless In Seattle, When Harry Met Sally...Her writing is amazing as well. Bryan Singer - His movies <3, The only reason why I'm going to spend money to see Superman. M. Night. Shyamalan - just genious really. Rob Marshall - amazing. . . look what he did with Chicago, and he's a choreographer as well. He just has amazing taste. Ron Howard - So much talent. [A Beautiful Mind]. . . There are probably a lot more that I can't think of at the moment. . . |

I'm really not a fan of Steven Spielberg. I don't really feel that he has a particular vision, and as I had said before, I am very much a fan of auteur theory and the director as a strong artist. I don't feel that Spielberg is actually a very strong artist. Most of his films, he did not write for. It can be hard to tell a Spielberg film from a Scorsese or a Stone film. I don't like that. And, for as many films are Spielberg has directed, there really are not that many gems.
Although, I am a huge fan of Jaws, Close Encounters, and Duel. Other films I really enjoyed were Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones trilogy, and Schindler's List. I would say his best work was done in the 70's, and that he needs to retire. I mean, I just can't stand Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Saving Private Ryan, The Lost World, and quite a few others. No one should be so hit and miss. I feel a strong commerical influence, icky. Even still, I would prefer Scorsese and Stone over Spielberg. |
