Here is a bulletin that was sent out on myspace about how all of the upperclassmen hate the freshmen:

When you come into high school in the fall, please don't try to
act cool, because what's cool to you usually isn't cool with the
upper classmen. stick to your middle school friends unless you know upper classmen that will get you in with other upper classmen so you don't get killed. Please DO NOT stand in the middle of the halls & talk to your friends because the seniors, juniors, and sophomores can, & most likely will, push you out of the way & call you a stupid freshman. you will get hurt. ALSO don't walk as slow as hell in the hallways. most likely you WILL get screamed at and told to move the hell out of the way. If you take an upperclassmens' lunch table they will make you move and if you don't listen you will get yelled at. Try to find your locker the first week of school so you dont have to carry your entire locker in your really "cool" backpacks. STAY iN A CHiLD [FRESHMANS]PLACE! <-- and stop typing like that cause it's NOT cool no matter how much you think it is..cause fact is...you dont matter much =) Homecoming is a time for the returning classes to reunite with their friends and have a good time. it's not for the freshman girls to show off 3/4 of their body and think they look good. in the end, you're just looking like a bunch of sluts and are saying you're willing to subject yourself to being ridiculed for the rest of your freshman year =]
IT'S NOT COOl TO BE LOUD AND THINK YOU'RE CUTE, CAUSE MOST LIKELY YOU WILL GET SHUT DOWN!
NEVER talk back to SENIORS, JUNIORS, or SOPHOMORES. Just dont try it. Don't come there screaming that 10 stuff, 07 WILL shut you down, 08 WILL beat the crap out of you, and 09 WILL bitch slap the hell out of you.

do you hate the freshmen, and do you think it is right to dislike them?

Nope. I think it's pretty elitist to dislike anyone just because he's new at something. Look, we were all new at something at one time. Everyone had their first day of high school. Being new is no reason to hate on people.

Admittedly, I do find some actions of freshman a bit silly. For example, at my college, freshmen get these orange nametags with lanyards during orientation. The nametag has their first name in big letters, and their hometown in slightly smaller letters. Freshmen here wear them all the time, even when they go downtown to parties, for the first week or so of classes every year. It's kind of funny because upperclassmen can easily pick out who is a freshmen and who isn't. Also, freshmen tend to travel in "packs" of about 10-20 students (especially to the cafeteria), so it's really easy to tell who is a freshman, even after they stop using the nametags.

So, yeah, upperclassmen might snigger at stuff like that, because it's kind of funny. But disliking and being mean to people who are new? There's no excuse for that.

I think it's fine to hate freshmens.
But .. the passage that you had provided, i think, is overboard.
That, I don't think is right. But I also don't think that really happens.
I think the stereotypical freshman getting beat up is an exaggeration.
Nothing like that ever happens in my school.
But I do think it's okay to dislike freshmen because, cmon, their annoying.
I mean, I just finished freshman year and even I thought we were annoying.
We think we're all that, and quite frankly, I think we deserved to get our a ss's beat.
Plus, it's a tradition thing, you know?

It isn`t right to hate of freshman unless they`ve done something bad or whatever.. It`s just bassically stereotyping freshmans. That passage was mean.. at my school the students don`t do that, everyone just do their own thing. As long as no one messes with anyone then it`s all good. Freshmans at my school don`t get punked on, they know how to deal with those craps. _smile.gif

It kinda depends. Some of that stuff is really annoying (standing in the middle of the halls; talking really loudly, slow walking, etc).
But I guess it isn't really right to just pick on them. Unless they're doing something annoying.

Eh. I never hated on the freshmen. I didn't appreciate it when I was in 9th grade, so I thought I'd make it easier on them.

But once they start acting like they're the shit, I have to knock them down a peg.

the most annoying thing is when they stand in groups in the halls.

or when they think they're better than you.

I agree. Some of them are okay. But some of them are so stupid and annoying...the block the hallways all the time in our school, like tumours from the walls. Ugh. Some of them I like though, so yeh, it does depend.

Haha. I agree. ;x I was a freshman last year and most of our class would just stand in the middle of the damned hallways for no reason; just to talk about nothing but nonsense.

I didn't really mind the freshman hate, cause it was mostly just sophomores that did- and they didn't really do anything about it. It was funny, cause most of the juniors and seniors actually didn't like the class of '08 at our school. mellow.gif The class of '08 at my school are jerks...but anyway. Yeah, I don't mind it. ;x As long as it's not taken to a huge level and taken seriously.

I don't see much people "really" hating on freshmen, everyone has been freshman before, so why hate them? It's like hating yourself from 2-4 years ago.

There is no one hating me/and many other freshmen just because of being a freshmen, at least in my school.

I've had an incident when a freshmen thought she was the shit. Basically she was in front of my locker and I couldn't get it open, so I asked her nicely to move over. She refused to move over. So I just pushed her over. Then I screamed at her.

Yeah, kind of mean, but that kind of attitude calls for some kind of yelling and action.

Most freshmen are fine. Except the ones that stand in huge groups, walk slow, or make unnecessary amounts of noise. But then again, that goes for everyone.

I never hate freshmen until they do stupid immature things. When they act like idiots I call them out for it and treat them how they should be treated. It's kinda like the newbs here who tHiNk tYpInG lIk3 dIz iZ cOoL.

I actually have a lot of freshmen friends. My girlfriend was one last year when we first started dating, XD

ROFL that's funny. Haha, hopefully I won't do something equally stupid when I start college.

In general, people don't hate freshmen on purpose. It's their own immature actions which brings on the discrimination.

I dont know yet, I'm going to be a freshman this year.
haha, someone sent this to me.

QUOTE
to the class of 2010

- Do not wear brazilian pants and an abercrombie shirt because you want to make "a variety of friends."

- Sex doesn't make you cool & it won't make the upperclass boys think any higher of you. So don't go around bragging about it, no one cares & then you look like an easy freshman whore.. just leave all the slutty things you did in 8th grade in middle school.

- You are a F-R-E-S-H-M-A-N.. not a "freshie" - shut up, you sound queer.

- Don't walk around telling the sophomores, juniors, && seniors you're not all stupid freshman, we don't care, we're still calling you one.

- Dont' think you're smart because you filled up watter bottles with vodka and snuck it onto your 8th grade field trip. We've all done it.. so don't be proud.

- Don't post things like "FINALLY FRESH!! LOLZZZ" on myspace. If anything, you suck big time.

- DO NOT think that the girls who are sophomores juniors and seniors are your best friends.. they will just laugh at you.

- Don't think that you have privacy now. Once you're here.. youre business is everyone's business.

- Don't try to sit at olderclassmen lunch tables. You will be picked up and thrown onto the floor.

- You'll never be as hot as the olderclassmen. So don't try.

- To all freshman guys, you can't get with the class of '07 & '08 & '09 girls.

- Don't try to say you're older than you really are. The way you walk, dress & talk just has freshman written all over you.

- Your name is "the class of '10." HAHA.. enough said.

-Don' t try to pull that "Well you were freshmen once..." STOP! We know that we were freshmen we were treated the same way! Get use to it! + we were never as stupid as you

-The day you mess with our boyfriend/girlfriend, you'll never enjoy highschool again.

Sincerely,
The Classes of '07 & '08 & '09

I'M actually the class of '10. This thing was a little intimidating.

I don't see what the big deal is about viewing freshman as fresh meat. When I was a freshman in high school, people would ask me if I were one of the older grades and then amusing enough, people asked if i was a freshman when i was a senior. And besides, unless they're going around acting like idiots or looking around at the room numbers like a deer caught in headlights, you cant really tell who's a freshman. I'm surprise no one's mentioned "freshman friday" yet.

I don't think it's right either because as some people said already that they were one once but than somehow it goes around anyway .

In my school we never had a problem I was a freshmen last year and no one did anything really bad I don't remember seeing anyone getting pushed in the halls. they would just mostly ingore us and only talk with the others grades. I was once talking to this girl and than she saing something like "she sucks like a F*ing freshmen" and than she would say "no offense." But mostly I think they make fun of us behind our backs. at least at my school.

The only thing that's majorly anti-freshman at our school is freshman friday. Otherwise, all grades are pretty much cool with each other.

And walking slow in the hallways? Heck, not only freshman do that!

I'd say this bulletin is 75% bogus. The other 25% however ...

I guess it depends on the way some Freshmen act. The whole Freshmen hating thing doesn't really apply around where I live. I'm going to be a Freshman this coming school year but I won't be entering high school. Around where I live Jr. High is from 7th-9th. Freshmen are considered high schoolers, but in the jr. high building.

Geez, that was a little harsh. I think it is tradition to joke around with the freshmen. I was picked on when I was a froshey as I have picked on them my fair share of times. We don't hurt them of course, and it is all in the name of fun. Just part of highschool ya know? I think sometimes the sophomores get carried away though..some of the power of being a previous freshman gets to their heads and stuff. I don't know, I think its all fun and games.

Freshmans can be a lot more mature that all of the upper classmans. Atleast they're not bothering you and YOU'RE picking on them. How rude.

Isn't it kind of the same in middle school? The sixth graders get picked on the most, and the 8th graders think they're suprerior to the school...while the seventh graders are just like "whatever"...haha. that's how it is like at my school. I was never really picked on in sixth grade, but when I entered seventh grade, all these new sixth graders started playing stupid pranks on the seventh graders and eighth graders (to try to be cool),which pissed the hell out of us. Like, one time, on the bus, I was sitting in my seat, talking to my friend, and these two sixth grader kept tapping me on the shoulder, and I was like, "Can you please stop that?"...and then like..a few minutes after that, he stuck gum on the back of my shirt. I was just like, "WHO THE f**k DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?" and yeahh....

I asked my sister about the freshmen thing at her school (she's in highschool)...she said that nobody really does that anymore, and they just leave the freshmens alone..unless they TRY to get in the way of others.

High School and middle school are completely different. whistling.gif

It depends, some of the freshmans can be annoying.

I remember on the last day of school, I was having lunch with my boyfriend in a hallway. Then this freshman comes up to us and say "My friends and I would like it if you two don't hug or show any affection here. Its rather disgusting." Gosh.....if they have a problem with it, GO SIT SOMEWHERE ELSE or don't even bother to look at our direction! mad.gif I'm going to hunt them down this year, so what if they are going to be sophomores. If I see one of them hugging or kissing anyone, I'm going to give them the same treatment.

I think it is wrong because you were a freshman once too. I never made fun of the freshman at my school just because I know them.

It's pretty much wrong.

1. I'm an upcoming freshman, and I really wouldn't want anyone to be hating on me. GET TO KNOW ME FIRST before you judge me and the usuals.

2. I know that we all probably hate on freshmen once we're sophs/juniors/seniors, but they were all freshmen at one point, so what's the use?
It's sort of like hating on teenagers. Older people were ONCE teenagers; I see no point in this sort of prejudiced nonsense.

Well, I'm getting off-topic, but the point is that not all freshmen go out of their way to please the upperclassmen. :[ I know it will certainly not be me.

High School is very different. The cliques start integrating and you have a lot more freedom. I am sure people say that to you about high school all the time but it is very true. For the first time you are with people who like the same things as you. Also in high school people's personalities start to develop a little more.

sophomores are the worst.

they're idiots.

we're really on the freshmen this year. there are a lot more cannings than usual. some of them are of sophomores, but hey, they deserve it as well.

i don't like the freshmen at my school but that's because 99.9% of them are spoiled and think they are hot stuff when they are not.
