because we need 2 threads to bash sally and julia and edison chen.

actually, this thread should still be kept alive for the people that want to list who they like but arent in OCC. thats my take.

and also cause of the first reason

RICKY MARTIN!? BACKSTREET BOYS?!

Not many Asian countries listen to good American music. I remember walking into a music store in Taiwan, and looking at the "American music section"....they had Atomic Kitten, Kelly Clarkson, etc...just stupid bands. ><"

In recent years, Hollywood has seen more and more Chinese-themed stories. Steven Spielberg is rumored to be the latest to consider helming another Chinese classic.

It is reported that director, who will be an artistic consultant for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, is considering producing a movie based on the classic Chinese fairy story Journey to the West.

It's something about the UN passing a law on making Simplified Chinese official and abolishing Traditional Chinese.

That's horrible. I've learned traditional all my life, but was trained to read simplified towards the start of high school. I never really liked it, and my teachers prefered the traditional way anyway. By then, I was way too busy...so I quit Chinese school freshman year.

The UN, of all organizations? This I find hard to believe. I can understand if they just want to make Simplified Chinese official and keep Traditional Chinese also, but to BAN Traditional Chinese?! That's a violation of our basic rights as a human being!

WTH? I want a protest against this. Banning Traditional Chinese is completely ridiculous. You cannot just ban something like this.

U learn English in pre-K? WOW, Lucky. I learn English like in Kindergarten but I dun speak that much when I was little so I started to speak English in 4th grade. Yup I'm pretty quiet when I was little but when i reached like 6th grade. I get all talkative and yea.

I'm very fluent in Cantonese, but my reading and writing leave MUCH to be desired.

I don't know, I don't feel too ashamed about it. I know I'm trying my hardest to learn, after all those years of Chinese school. I did come to North America when I was only 2, so I think it's a pretty good accomplishment. I must keep at it, though. =)

I learned English in preschool. Well, I was exposed to it in preschool. I learned most of it in Kindergarten.

^Right.

Lulu Christina- Oooh. Well, I was born and raised in North America so it's not like I had a choice to speak it or not. My Chinese is slowly declining. =/ That's why I think it's beneficial for me to go to Taiwan during the summer so my Chinese can improve. Though, I must admit...my writing and reading could be a whole lot better. Uhg. So much better.

Gigi- Aw, you sound like you're motivated. I wish I was. Gah. I suck in Chinese school.

lol u failure.

taking chinese at the HS is retarded. our class is half white people/foreigners (not trying to be racist) that cant speak mando for crud. so 80% is an A in our class and half the white people are failing.

but we did have an interesting presentation by my friends when they TRIED to introduce the class to asian music and lost the attention of the "bai ren" and all the fobs tried to suggest better artists

lol u failure.

taking chinese at the HS is retarded. our class is half white people/foreigners (not trying to be racist) that cant speak mando for crud. so 80% is an A in our class and half the white people are failing.

but we did have an interesting presentation by my friends when they TRIED to introduce the class to asian music and lost the attention of the "bai ren" and all the fobs tried to suggest better artists

hahaha.

My high school is something like....49% Asian.

The Mandarin classes are jam-packed with native speakers, and as a result, the Mandarin teachers usually don't teach us a thing because we all know it anyway.

As for the foreigners taking Mandarin, they're left to learn it by themselves. It's a sad system, I know. But at least I know Chinese enough to be getting 95%! =)

I don't really have to take any languages next year, but I'm continuing with Mandarin anyway in case I f**k up my other exams.

^COOL! 49% Asian. At my school, it's like....3% Asian. -______-" Georgia is completely different from California, NY, and Canada...there aren't that many Asians. Sigh. :[

My school offers 4 languages- German, Latin, French, and Spanish. :/ None of them are too appealing to me, so I just chose to take French...probably a bad move, eh? I wish we had Japanese. I would take that in a heartbeat.

lol our asians are taking over the school. i think its been something like 10 years since someone not chinese has gotten the "most accomplished student award" and we took almost all the academic achievement awards

lol the math team and the science team are 90% asian. and the badminton team is 85% asian. and our pingpong club is all asian. and the DDR club is mostly asian

we work hard to break asian stereotypes

Our badminton team is 95% asian, and our school is vietnamese dominated. ..or maybe it's the mexicans/filipinos.
