i think it's stupid. everyone wants to be the same: thin.

mmkay. maybe not EVERYONE, but a lot of girls do.
and not only girls, but guys too!

people should learn to accept themselves.
and if they want to lose weight, do it the healthy way: eating the good things (like fruit, whole grains, etc.) and exercising.
they don't have to go on a crash diet.

People need to be fine with who they are and what they look like. cuz really, that doesnt matter: how you look. cuz the right ppl that really deserve to be your friends will look at your inside, not your outside

It's ridiculous. Seriously, if you think that it'll get you more friends, a boyfriend, etc- those friends that you make after getting thin and plastic surgery and whatever stupid things you do will all be fakes, because they didn't look at who you were before and appreciate you.

I've been thin my whole life. I've also had an eating disorder my whole life. I never ever worried about my figure, and it never really came to mind whether I thought I had a good figure or not. Once a became a full-blown anoretic [Borderline Anorexia], that's when I started worrying and thinking I was fat. I've never felt that way about my body in my life!

People who push themselfs to be anorexic is very strange though. I mean atleast these people are in their right minds. What makes them think ANOREXIA is attractive? Holy hell, when they've gone all the way, and their lives are completely turned upside down, they'll regret it.

I now have a heart condition.
Is that how far people are willing to go,
just to be unattractively thin?

It's never a good thing when people hurt themselves to improve their looks. I think that dieting is good no matter what your weight is. I wish junk food never existed. Maybe then, we wouldn't be the fattest country in the world. (btw, Guam is a territory of the United States like Puerto Rico. In case you were wondering what country I was talking about.)

People should not ask themselves, "how much do I weigh?" Instead they should ask, "How healthy am I?"

Eating healthy and excercising may in theory but some people (including myself) just need to go the extra mile. I need to be thin not because cosmetic reasons but because it could affect my career.

Please don't just assume that everyone who goes on crash diets are looking for attention from guys or "beauty." Sometimes it goes a little bit deeper than that.

I think hurting yourself to be skinny is a bad and pretty dumb idea.

Yet then again not all people diet to make people like them, be their friends, etc. Some people actually do it to make them feel better about themselves. If I were to ever get over weight which I don't think I ever will because I like the way I am wayyyyy to much but if I were to ever get that way Ib would definitely diet just to make ME feel better about myself and if other people happen to like it then hey that's a plus for me lol biggrin.gif

eh. I will probably never be happy with how i look but its fair for me because I want to be a celebrity. I'm trying to conform to that image because thats the career I want. So I'm sure I will never be happy with myself physically. I know I'm overweight (and I'm not being dramatic, I'm 30 pounds overweight) and I know I'm not too unhealthy, but I will probably never be happy with how I look like I said. But I'm a thick girl, I will never be stick think like lohan or nicole richie. I mean, my bones are too big lol. But I know I will probably never be happy with my weight, and I accept that. Its like whatever to me.

The whole problem is that girls think that guys won't like them if they don't look like a model, but they don't realize that the guys that only like them because they're pretty aren't worth their time anyway. That's why I try not to stress out about it. I mean, sure, I'm 5'1" and weigh 115. I could probly stand to lose oh about 10 pounds, but the truth is, I LOVE FOOD! So I'd rather eat happily and be a little extra heavy than be super skinny and like not eat anything. I mean is being skinny REALLY worth giving up food? it's too yummy...

I`m like 5`0 and llike 88 pounds since the last time I checked. I do crash dieting sometimes. I used to do it more before. But for some reason now it`s harder haha. I mean don`t get me wrong. I do love food and not eating does take a lot of effort, but I`m really worried about how I look n` stuff. All my friends are like super tiny and yeah. It sucks. And yeah you guys are right, it does make me feel better about myself.

i think its sick the way the media and society tell us that "thin" is the only way to be. it makes me sad to see these girls giving into what other people say. I'm a big girl, and I will never go on crash diets. I accept myself for who I am, and if anyone else doesn't like it, then oh well

^yea with today and the media everyone thinks its fine to be thin. "the only way to be beautiful is to be thin"
I have a friend that has bulimia. A few that are ana.[anorexic]
Sadly you can't do anything to help them they have it so put it in their head that their fat when they weight the same or less then me.. And i'm not fat I just don't like some parts of my body but I am perfectly capable of living with them. But I personally think its incredibly wrong. Crash diets are extremely bad for you and even anorexic people don't always lose weight this one girl tried it and never ate and she was like really skinny but still has this pudge.. it doesn't look right and if you just starve yourself and then eventually start eating again all that food turns in to instant fat people your body realized you were starving.

i agree. i doubt that people in the media that are super skinny are happy with their lives... i mean seriously... and if you were anorexic, wouldn't you become all brittle and junk? not a happy place to be... anorexia is a really sad thing... i've never had an anorexic friend, but i know people who've had friends that died from it. awwh man, my friend Grace was crying so bad cuz her friend died of it.

i wish there was something i could do...

It's WAAAY not that simple.
Even if you decide you want to love your body the way it is and accept yourself, you still can't change your inner mind.
Sometimes you just CAN'T accept yourself, even if you want to.

last year i was really good friends with this one girl and this year we didn't get to hang out much...but this year she went annorexic. she used to be something like 120 or something...now she's like 90...it's scary. she can't have children now she's messed herself up so bad. when she does try to eat, she can't hold it down because she's too dehydrated or something like that. the other day i was talking to one of my friends (who is friends with the girl i'm talking about) and she said she was going to go to the mall with her, but she couldn't because the girl had to go to the hospital. i can't imagine why someone would want to screw themselves up so much just to be skinny.

You're an idiot. Infact, go ahead, ask any guy if they find overly anorexic girls attractive.
I think you and your boyfriend are on your own there.

Agreed.
Crash dieting is one of the most stupid things you can do, but I guess some people can't help it. I'm naturally thin, but if I try to eat healthy people immediately assume I'm crash dieting. There's a difference between a healthy diet, which will give you more energy, even out your skin, and provide the nutrients your body needs, and crash dieting which does NONE of the above.

you dont have to be skinny and stick thin to be beautiful
if ur friends r ur friends cuz of ur looks,
then they're not ur friends
most of my friends are skinny too,
but i dont let it get to me!
sure im not the happiest about my figure,
but im not gonna try to starve myself
to be this media conjured up twisted image of the pretty girl!!!! _dry.gif
we're people and we were made to be unique
if we were all the same then i would die of boringness
my friends love me for who i am as a person,
not because of looks
the last thing you have to do is to learn how to love yourself.
dont crash diet because in that time that u are crash dieting you are partly
destructing your body
So love others, love your family, and most importantly love yourself.
because everything happens for a reason

I believe crash dieting can be like being anorexic, bulimic, or just going on strictly insane diets... pretty much, it's just overly obsessing about your weight to the point where you will practically starve yourself.

It's quite sad.. cry.gif

Uhm. No. An eating disorder is a mental disease. A crash diet, according to tfddotcom:
QUOTE
A Crash diet is a diet which is extreme in its deprivations - typically severely restricting calorie intake. Meant to achieve rapid weight loss, a crash diet differs from outright starvation only slightly. Crash diets are typically unhealthy and are rarely - if ever - recommended by doctors or Dietitians.

Yeah. I've never "crashed dieted"--I've never had a reason to just want to lose x pounds REALLY quickly and just have that. I'm disordered, so I have weird coping mechanisms tied in with food and my weight. I starve--or feel the need to, no matter the rational "you're so stupid! you know you can't do x and lose y pounds why doing z activities" thoughts that may or may not come to mind to others. I binge, I purge, whatever. It's so hard to try and explain my emotions without coming off as a preacher, so I'll stop. It's just..people don't always think rationally, especially if they have nothing more to turn to, so they develop odd ways to cope.. Yeah. Eating disorders are not chosen, too, by the way. Christ. "Ana" and "Mia" are not my buddies, thx.
It saddens me when others do try to crash diet, though. I always, always try to discourage them because they usually don't need to lose, yes. If they do, I try to recommend healthy ways that would be satisfying.
Heh, I've been to enough dieticians and doctors, read so many ways of dieting healthily and such, that I know how to talk about..just not do. Shrug.
