Some members here on cB do not realize that a leniently moderated Lounge forum does not mean complete spam topics will be allowed. Got it? Jusun's intention of announcing it with a bang (which wasn't a terribly good idea) was so that repeated topics will be allowed, going slightly off-topic will be allowed, and that topics do not necessarily have to have a certain "point" to it, but that does not mean spamming will be allowed from now on. Refer to his statement: "sometimes things need to be revisted and retalked. its part of everyday life."

The leniency rule has not "gone to hell", some of you are just taking advantage of this rule. Bravo. This isn't just regarding the multiplex10 spam topics from this morning but also to members' comments about staff not being lenient enough. In fact, we've been more lenient than ever! The staff has been noticing such reactions for a while now. Considering what happens to cB when we are being lenient is proof enough that a completely unmoderated forum will not work!! Complaining about it in a childish way is not going to change anything, so suck it up.

I'm with you; the way people are acting now is just ridiculous.

There was one point on leniency made today that I actually agreed with, but I won't bring that one up, because for the most part, this is just ridiculous. It was a good theory on Jusun's part, but alas, he isn't around to see just how much the demographic of cb has fallen.

I think a lot of members were just taking advantage. It may not be fair to some members who weren't spamming, but I'm tired of the spam too.

Those who were spamming know who they are and have to accept the consequences. Anyone who wasn't spamming wasn't suspended.

{repost from Anonymous Shoutouts}

There is a difference between a bit of off-topic[ness] and loads of useless junk/spam. I know I, for one, have been trying to let a lot of crap fly because most of the members see our attempt to be more tolerant of spontaneous conversation as a new "policy", but it's getting out of control. I can speak only for myself when I say that I find it to be really annoying that everyone is taking this opportunity and running it into the ground for others. Yes, we want to encourage people to communicate more freely with one another, but it's going way too far. I'm fairly new to people staff so I don't like being to strict, but when it gets to the point that I, who have been a member for over two years, no longer look forward to logging on because I know that the threads will be filled with exclusive conversations and spam galore, it makes me sad. I'm just tired of it. I really am.

So go ahead, be angry and whatnot. I know that the mods have been tried to be respectful and mindful of micron's goals and the wishes of the community. I don't know why people can't see that there are a lot of members that are abusing that tolerance. I'm just sick of it...

I agree, I've actually mentioned to a few people to cut the spam because they are taking advantage. And honestly, yesterday was proof that some people don't deserve the rules to be lightened up.

I think we all are tired of the spam. It seems like a lot of the members are actually taking advantage of the leniency rule to (pardon me if I'm wrong) have an excuse to spam, something they find funny.

I agree with everything Naomi said.

It was one group of people, I wa stalking to some of them, and some of the poeple who made accounts just to spam don't even come on cb anymore. I think it needs to be clearly addressed, like maybe pinned, that the l;eniency rule was about making duplicate topics, and chatting on topic with barely going off topic about the subject. NOT spamming.

Plus, going off topic slightly should actually be pertinent to the original topic at some point. Random sex jokes don't quite fit that requirement.

Or pokemon battles, for that matter. I had actually made a topic in forum games for that, but it got abandoned because doing it elsewhere is fun.

Like I said, it's one group of people, and maybe some new people who don't know any better.

Yeah, I agree. I mean..reading the things that members post when they spam is sometimes amusing. But sometimes, it's gets old. So old that I stopped visiting a few threads that I actually liked looking back to, to see the replies of other members.

But when the spam parade begins, forget it. I have to look elsewhere, ugh. ermm.gif

I think the moderator team on a whole has to be a lot more strict. You break a rule, even if it's a small one, you get warned. After you mess up ten times (ten times is a lot) you're gone, forever. You could decrease all warning levels after a while, if the person's been good.

It's harsh, but it works.

Verbal warnings are stupid.

As for the spam fests that have occured. The people who did them were well aware of the punishment for doing so. So i fully agree with the mod's who had to act. And offer thanks.

but honestly though,

most of the topics on here do stay on topic, dont make it out like a sh*t load of spam took over and its unruly. spam's gonna happen, people arent robots.

and in all reality, some of the best moments on cb, from the fights to the drama, to the just plain wierd moments, were indeed considered as "spam".

it gives the site some personality, believe it or not. and this is the most "closest" of forums ive been on, in terms of familiarity, so i think thats another reason why spam is gonna occur. and if you do take waccoons idea, and be "really strict". i think you forgot people can leave. why would you wanna come on something in your free time where your getting "warned" consitently and over supervised, what is this school?

personally i think its fine as it is now, not too strict, not too lenient.

i dont get why people care so much rolleyes.gif especially if your not a mod, because at least thats understandable.
personally i can care less what the hell other people do, but thats just me.

yeah, i posted in anonymous shout outs before i read this.

i agree that the leniency rule was not created to justify or allow the level of spam bombing that has occured over the last couple of days. people need to top hiding behind that rule. which, isnt evena RULE, but a suggestion.

---

i see where evan is coming from, and i TOTALLY agree with im that most of the bes tmoments on cb have been what would be considered spam. Fab Five!!!!

but, i dont think that constantly spamming is a particularly intellingetn response. after a while, it will get old, and then where will you be. at this rate, the whole little group of spammers will just burn out... which may or may not be a bad thing, depending on who you ask.

personally, i think what waccoon is saying is just pathetic... as if anyone wants that. i dont think there is anything WRONG with spamming... its just kinda silly. fun silly, but silly.

Glad you brought this up Mona, it's been buggin me for some time.

I understand what jusun was trying to do, and I agree with his original idea.
However, it def got out of hand, and the new rule has been abused.
I think a lot of people can agree that Cb has gone downhill as of late. [atleast to me]
I don't spend time on here to read pointless spam topics.
and I'm sure most everyone else doesn't either.

Hope everything will begin to clear up...

Several things I'd like to put out there:
1) I myself did not know about what was going on in the chat (about James making a spam topic that won't get closed).
2) For those who care, James was not suspended on his original account.
3) The only topics that should have been deleted were the spam ones. Forget the fact that it was deleting evidence. Who has the patience just *looking* at 75 spam topics? The only one that shouldn't have been is the Anarchy thread.

1) lets all stop outright blaming all the mods as a collective unit. the person who did the suspending was sammi, the mistake, or not, depending on you rpoint of view is hers. it has now been rectified.
2) see anonymous shout outs for a full explanation/discussion
3) can i just say, the 75 thread spamfest was a DIFFERENT occassion from the whole thing which resulted from the anarchy thread being spammed. that took place in the late night/early morning of the previous day. the one which has caused all th econtroversy was a SEPERATE batch of threads that evening.
i had NOTHING to do with the early morning ones, i wasnt even online/in chat when they were made. thats why people were upset that i had been semi-suspended, or whatever you want to call it.
meh, as for the anarchy thread, there wasnt much purpose in leaving it there anyway, because people are stupid.

----

oh, and for the record, going backa few months, i now TOTALLY agree with michael that threads/posts shouldnt be deleted. it has been a pain in the ass not being able to show that i wasnt as involved when all the threads had been deleted.

although i dont like the idea, id just like to point out how easy it is to create a new forum, disable post count, and then delete the forum when the day is over.

this being why we have the sandbox as this is not needed.

I liked the leniency idea, I really did. I noticed the spammitism but since I don't really go on cB that much anymore, it wasn't too much of a big deal for me.

Does this mean...leniency is done for? Because I see this thread going two ways, and one of them includes many of the mods posting about how they really ARE being lenient and how it's stupid how everyone says they aren't. So they tighten up a bit more and a bit more. That's all I don't want to happen.

And I agree with Sean. Spam moments have been fun. I mean, that spamgamethread in the sandbox. Lots of jokes and most find it more fun than the lounge.

Let us enjoy and have fun on the forums in a civilized manner, not that I'm saying anyone isn't civilized. Spamming is just something immature and we are tired of it.
