To find a place where I belong, find someone that truly cares, to find my place in the world, and to make a difference, I may be one person, but one person can make all the difference..

I'm not realli sure what my purpose is, but the aforementioned are my goals.. and besides one's purpose changes with time.. so for now, i'll say that my purpose in life is to find a reason to live my life

our main purpose in life is to keep the species going, but that's on a scientific term only.

I'm Christian... so its the whole living to serve God, and living for him. but that's hard to do.. especially recently for me.

Well I don't know. My purpose in life is to be the best person I could be, and just respect others, and hopefully keep our generation going (if you know what I mean...*wink* j/k...yeah right, child birth is painful!). Anywhoo, I'm really not sure, but I don't know...I will have to think about that. You know I've been noticing that I say that a lot lately for like every debate thingie. I'm such a bad debater...*sigh*. laugh.gif

I'm sorry, but what are we debating here? The question is open to interpretation, and each person "lives" for something different. huh.gif

YES! Living is a purpose in itself...

Anyway, I think she wanted to debate whether or not our reasons for living are as meaningful as hers... or as other religious people. Their purpose is to serve God, I don't think they think our lives are very meaningful if we don't serve God.

It's so simple in your eyes.. but really it isn't.

Living is an endeavor. It's a journey to discover who you are, where you belong, what you will do. While you live you experience emotions, feelings, nature... etc.

There's more to life than just eat, sleep as you say, and there's certainly more to life than serving a diety.

i think this is the first thing i can agree with you about. totally true... if God really did put us on this earth, why would he put us here just to worship him? i think my purpose in life is to just go through trials and tribulations, and try to be the best person possible. just be an overall good person. and i think that there is no heaven and hell. i mean, maybe. but if you weren't christian, but were a GREAT person, giving your heart to people, making them feel loved, why wouldn't you go to heaven? just because you didn't live your life serving god? adolf hitler went to mass every sunday, so that in your eyes is "serving god." do you think he's in heaven?

I think that's very much your purpose also. I wan't my surname to just go on. I'd wanna meet an Olegario about 5000 years from now. Wouldn't you? Yeah, I think that's my purpose.
I mean, what kind of life would I have if I live it for someone else?
Damn. That's having no life at all.

have any read the PDL (purpose driven life) ?? heh i kinda did...

without purpose, we wouldnt be living in this earth in the first place.

God give everyone a purpose... some ppls will take time to believe in God... some will knoe God faster. he made it like that and there is no complain and that he wont get mad cus ur not believing him fast...he can wait. i mean he made that purpose for u...why does he need to get mad?

God gives us the challenges in our lives... we get pain and we complain to God.. we get pain so we can get closer to God. without pain...we wouldnt get closer to God... everyone has a problem in their lives...everyone has pain problems in their lives...but maybe one ppl or 2 ppl might not have it... it's jus the purpose that God has given us.

I have not cleary knoe my purpose... we all dont knoe our purpose... we can tell it from the future...we have to go through it to knoe our purpose by each step. so far my purpose is to have a stomache pain...and alwais fight with my mom and get bad grades these days... im not saying God is controlling ur life...he is jus give u that purpose...it's like an order..telling someone to tell them wat to do in their lives and jus keep it and try to work on it. it's like that.. we have to work our lives together.

we will never knoe our purpose until we think bot it and go through it... we cant tell the future remember that!! God knows everything... it's like God is writing a future diary for us... lols.

True.

I don't complain to God. I look in myself for the strength to get by, and it has never failed me, nor has it failed my Mom in her years of hardship. We get ourselves through the day.

QUOTE

I know mine: to live. Remember that living is a great endeavor of exploration, not just a something so simple like eating and sleeping.

Lets say that God did write something for each of us, that means that we were destined to be who we are today? Is there no changing God's will?

But that's the point, they haven't truly lived.

Living to me is not just the feel of heartbeat, is not just your urgings to satisfy basic needs, such as feeding or... sex.

Living is experiencing life for what it can give us: nature, passions, feelings, knowledge...etc.

They must see those things for themselves before determining their purpose. They haven't seen all the options given to them. Their purpose wasn't known to them at all because they haven't gotten a chance to.

She was arguing that people who believes in God and do bad things will still go to Hell as opposed to people who do good things should go to Heaven whether or not they have faith in God.

Also, according to many other Christians, going to mass means respecting and serving God.

yeah but just sitting in a church... or in a temple, synagogue, masjid, gurdwara, or any religious building doesn't mean that you serve God or gods, it just means you're going to a building. If serving God is your purpose, you should be doing more than that. And if your purpose isn't serving God, shouldn't it be serving others? it takes all of us to make the world go 'round.

I wish that were true for all Christians. However, the world isn't full of people who are willing to serve God by serving His children. And the world's full of people are too greedy to give to charity, these are Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, alike.

When people come to my house to preach, they mostly do it in hope that I will convert or join their Churches. I haven't heard a single person mention anything about charity; it was mostly to praise the glory of God and the rewards for doing so.

I do charity on my own time and I try to encourage others to do the same in their spare time. But I don't do in the name of God, I do it in the name of morality. But heck, I'll still be going to Hell for it because of my disbelief.

Purpose of life? We each have our own, but it takes time to discover them.

couldn't be better put. high five. someone needs to tell you thanks for serving His children, even if not in the name of God... wish more people [believers and non-believers alike] were more charitable - so here i am, thanking you and all others out there who are doing something to benefit the world as a whole... or maybe even just one life. bless you all.

QUOTE

We each have our own, but it takes time to discover them.

heyhey-- there are alot of christians who go out to ministy and go to other 3rd world countries trying to improve their lifestyles and preaching the word of God, handing out essentuals...
not all "christians" are true believers.

Erm... Ahem, that's why I said I wish that were true for ALLLLLLLLLLLL Christians. I didn't say that everyone of that faith are lazy butts. I also said the same of other religions, NOT JUST those of Christian faith.

Don't think I don't know about charity programs funded by Christians. I work for a Christian organization.

I'm a Catholic and yes I agree, we do live to work God's will, but there's more to it than that. We are here to grow as individuals and experience both good an evil and to help others in need. I'm still searching for many of the reasons why I'm here other than as a child of God, but I guess I'll have to find those other reasons on my own.

i'm jewish. i don't think i have purpose in life. i don't know. i'm just... here. not a very good answer, probobly but it's the truth. huh.gif i'm pretty content with just being here, though. and even if i was christian, i don't think my purpose in life would be God. i think that everyone should live life for themselves. not for anyone else. wink.gif i mean, i'm not religous, but i guess God sent us down here. maybe... i don't know. i don't usually believe things because someone tells me to or because a book says so. i really hope that's not offensive to anyone, but it's the dead truth. sorry. _unsure.gif but the point is, to live life for yourself. if everyone made themselves happy instead of always worrying for someone else or trying to please someone else, i think that everyone would be happy, prettymuch. pinch.gif

My purpose in life is to fulfill my goals, live my dream, live for the ones I love, and to pass on my knowledge to others and be successful. I wouldn't wanna die because that would leave everything incomplete and unaccomplished, my worst fear.
