I want to know what exactly the point of confining in use to livejournal is. I don't get icons from there, and I most likely wouldn't disregard their wishes, but you know, generally if someone puts something up for use, it will be used. I can understand the theory to an extent, but no, I genuinely don't really understand the point. I'm not seeing whole lot of difference. Someone could claim the icon as their own either way, and while that's unforunate, that's what happens when you put something out for use on the internet.

that only applies if the creator has asked for their icon to be only used on livejournal, and for the icon to be credited to themselves.

personally, i don't believe in credit. if you put it out there, you want people to use it. and generally, people use images that were drawn / taken / created by someone else, and they don't generally credit.

but if a person asks for credit, i either don't take / use the icon, or i credit them with it.

But many icons get collected and displayed on icon sites that rarely list the creator so you don't really know who to credit. I find it easier to just look at pages of icons than individual sites owned by the creator.

If someone informed me that the creator of my avatar didn't want me to use it, I wouldn't use it. Until then, I will use it.

But, on my Myspace, I do know where the icons came from (except one) and link them to the creator.

Well personally, I don't see the point in keeping it just to Livejournal, but we should all respect the creator's rights and do what they say. If they don't want their icons anywhere but Livejournal, then don't steal them for use anywhere else.

I can understand the creator's reasoning, but if icons/avatars are displayed on the internet for public use, they can be used anywhere. Livejournal isn't the only place that uses icons and frankly, you should be allowed to use any icon you want anywhere (as long as you don't say you made it if you really didn't).

Idk, frankly, it's all quite stupid. You know it's going to go floatin' around the internet and no one is going to give a rats arse who made it. Unless we all live in this perfect little world- which we totally dont.
