Okay, I have a school project where I have to interview someone, but they must be 21 or older. You can post your answers here or send them to me through PM, but I need the answers by Thursday May 4, 2006. By answering these questions, you give me permission to use your name and information in a class project. Please make your answers more than one word, thank you!
1. Do you think that all great discoveries are a result of thinking outside of the box? Why or why not? 2. Einstein disliked the public school system and Rosa Parks disobeyed the law of segregation. Is there something that is considered "right" that you disagree with? If so, what is it and why? 3. Rosa Parks did not give up her seat to a white man and was arrested and fined for breaking the law. Would you have made the same choice? Why or why not? 4. Were you a troublemaker or rebel as a kid? If so, how does that affect you now? 5. Is there a person that you admire that is not considered a "conformist" or "mainstream"? Who is it and why do you admire them? 6. What was Einstein famous for? Thanks again. =] |

1. Do you think that all great discoveries are a result of thinking outside of the box? Why or why not?
Yes, absolutely. The further I get into my college education, the more I realize that no one ever achieves anything great by thinking just like anyone else. New ideas come from people who can look at an object or situation in a new light, and think of "unorthodox" ways of improving them. Basically, if it's inside the box, it's probably already been done—and most likely failed. 2. Einstein disliked the public school system and Rosa Parks disobeyed the law of segregation. Is there something that is considered "right" that you disagree with? If so, what is it and why? Well, I'm no fan of the public school system, either. I think it focuses too much on memorization rather than learning, and especially in middle- and high school, it serves only to hold gifted students back, rather than encouraging them to continue to excel. I'd like to see some major changes made to the educational system that would actually challenge students to think, and allow gifted students to grow without bound. 3. Rosa Parks did not give up her seat to a white man and was arrested and fined for breaking the law. Would you have made the same choice? Why or why not? This is a tough one. I very much agree with a person who stands up for her beliefs. Could I actually do something like what Rosa Parks did, though? Would I have the nerve? It seems so easy, but it was a pretty gutsy move on her part. I'd like to think I would, though. I generally am not afraid to speak (and act) my mind, so I think I'd make the same decision. 4. Were you a troublemaker or rebel as a kid? If so, how does that affect you now? I wouldn't say a troublemaker, but I didn't always stay in line. I was the kind of kid that mostly said what was on his mind. I think it's made me more comfortable with saying what I feel, not what I think others want to hear, which has allowed me to develop much-needed leadership tendencies, especially in the workplace. 5. Is there a person that you admire that is not considered a "conformist" or "mainstream"? Who is it and why do you admire them? Isaac Newton. Newton was weird, but he came up with a lot of good ideas. He thought outside the box and did things his own way, and he developed a lot of great systems as a result, such as the theory of gravitation and calculus. 6. What was Einstein famous for? Theory of relativity |

Here goes...
1. Do you think that all great discoveries are a result of thinking outside of the box? Why or why not? Absolutely. If people continued to only think inside their bubble, or according to social norms, how would anything ever evolve? 2. Einstein disliked the public school system and Rosa Parks disobeyed the law of segregation. Is there something that is considered "right" that you disagree with? If so, what is it and why? I think that it’s inconceivable how someone who doesn’t have a job, doesn’t try to get a job is able to receive social security benefits when someone who works full time and has a legally disabled child is unable to receive any governmental assistance because they make over $20,000/ year. It’s ridiculous. The financial assistance and what/whom is considered needy needs to seriously be revised – even at risk of not sounding politically incorrect as far as certain classes are concerned. 3. Rosa Parks did not give up her seat to a white man and was arrested and fined for breaking the law. Would you have made the same choice? Why or why not? Rosa Parks was a very brave and honorable woman, I’m not sure I would have the same courage as she demonstrated. I would hope that I would make that same choice, and set that profound precedent for generations to come. 4. Were you a troublemaker or rebel as a kid? If so, how does that affect you now? I wasn’t either. I was a loner and didn’t fit into any particular social group. I was also raised in a very stringent religion that frowned upon divorce. My mom was married 8 times and the stigma and alienation from that will always be a part of who I have become, particularly in not holding what most people consider “normal” or “regular” as having an significance on the decisions regarding how I live my life and how I raise my child. 5. Is there a person that you admire that is not considered a "conformist" or "mainstream"? Who is it and why do you admire them? John Lennon. The man had little to no fear of speaking his mind. Everything he wrote and performed inspires me. He was vocal about peace, even having that “bed-in” which became so famous years ago. The man was amazing. 6. What was Einstein famous for? The theory of relativity. He was also a socialist, of sorts and I have the utmost respect for that. Hope that helps. =) |
