Ok, so my son will be in the first grade this September and I'm wondering - do you guys/gals still use book covers on your text books?
![]() I know... cheesy cheesy... but I remember using old paper shopping bags as book covers when I was in school (you know, back when the earth was still cooling ![]() So help an out of touch mother out - what do you use, if you use anything to cover your text books? PS - I did a search but didn't find anything. ![]() |

Hehe, I used to use calendars and shopping bags too. Those sticky things stores sold seemed so expensive for such a silly practice ^^

I didn't have to cover textbooks until middle school. I always used old paper bags. They were cheap and pretty simple to make.
Being in college, I don't have to cover textbooks anymore. ![]() |

I don't cover my textbook, unless the teacher asks us to.
My school usually gives out paper to cover the book with, but I've seen people who used a paper bag as the cover, making it easy to carry as well. |

use contact paper or something like that.
it's like this clear plastic-y thingy that sticks to the cover of the books. but the bad thing is that you can't take it off the books. |

In middle school they started requiring them, so I used the stretchy cloth kind for a couple of years. I'm really glad I'm done with that now; they were irritating.

Yes, but I don't think a first grader will need book covers.
I never used them until last year, my grade was in danger unless I covered it. |

yep,we do,we're actually required to at my school,or we get our grade lowered or detention until we get one on our books...but thats high school, not sure about elementary school, though my 5th grade brother has book covers on his books. But right when school stars wal-mart has strechy book covers for not too pricy and they last a while too.

Jeff!! ![]() ![]() Anyways. I once used those really sticky crappy adhesive book covers that stuck to your book.. I never got it off, so I had to buy another textbook. ![]() I remember those. The teachers would get pissed if you used them. I used those brown paper bags for my books when I was in elementary school. My parents didn't know how to do it because they never saw it before so they asked another parent to do it for me. They tipped them a few bucks too ![]() I don't think I got text books until like 3rd grade. In first grade, we had individual workbooks with pages that pulled out or we got handouts. We punched shapes out of the workbooks and all this other cool stuff I forgot about. My teacher would give us one M&M or one Skittle if we did our homework which was usually coloring something in and/or easy math problems. I miss first grade ![]() |

Thanks everyone for your comments. I haven't heard whether or not covering books was required, but he's my first child and I am so new to all this school business with him so I thought I'd check.

It's required at my school. I would go ahead and get them just to be safe. You can get them at the dollar store, I believe.

Heh, I never really understood the purpose of book covers. I mean, if you spill something on it, it's going to soak right through anyway.

We used to use text book covers in elementary I believe, but we stopped in middle school because it was just too much of a hassle.

I use them. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I'd rather have a spongebob book cover than a messed up, broken down, old textbook by the end of the year.

some teachers require them, but most don't.
and the courses where you have to have a cover, it provides a good place to scribble and doodle when you're bored. |

I only used book covers for 6th grade. They made us bring the book back so they can see it was covered and we got a grade for that. I used the stretchy cloth one. But now we dont need to cuz i go to a different school other then the school i went to for 6th grade.

yeah it used to be a really strict requirement in j.h.s i dont remembr about elementary school.. but i dont think anyone cares in H.s. b/c teachers trust u enough to handle the books w/ care..however some ppl still do it out of habit
my mom always used plastic wrap to wrap the books when i was little.. but now my school gives out book covers..not many ppl use it tho |
