Some plans offer you so many downloads a month with no extra charge. For the first two months I had my cell phone, I got to try the plan for free, so I got $10 with which I bought games rather than ringtones, but it was my choice.
Also, some phones let you record or write your own. How does one even go about go about getting illegal ringtones? |

Mine's the same, but some do let you record ringtones. Several of my friends have that feature. And I'm pretty sure your phone has a speaker; it'd be a little hard to speak into otherwise

well, my phone, I can transfer songs into into it, then turn it into my ringtone. that's because I have an mp3 builtin in my phone.
But I have heard of legal downloadable ringtones for free before. |

It's possible, but they're always pretty sucky. There's no words to it, and it's always like a piano playing it. Lame

My dad has a pogram where he can convert any media file into a ringtone. Which is where my mom got her Mainstreet Electrical Parade ringtone.
And phones seem to have gotten more technical since mine (which, uh, called people) but even I had a feature where I could create my own ringtone. |

If you have bluetooth, .mp3 ringtones can be very, very, very easily obtained. Just a little audio editing and you've got your own ringtone.
Unfortunately Smartone HK has blocked bluetooth on my phone so mine doesn't have the luxury of free ringtones. =( |

I know someone who records the ringtone and then text messages it to herself and then sets it as her ringtone. Thats how her ringtones are free. She also can text message them to other people so they can use it as a ringtone too.

first off, i think itd be easier to know what type of phone you have so people can actually help, not just tell you how they do it on their phone.
if all else fails, i have a way thatll work on any phone with internet on it. also, id like to know how you guys do it with bluetooth because my phone has it... |

Well I have gotten two free ringtones, cause sometimes the ringtone companies have "free trials" that dont expire. or just "free downloads".
So, I suppose it just depends on where you look? |

I've heard a lot of you responding about bluetooth...what is that? It's a method of wireless transfer, typically used in small devices such as cellphones. Basically, you need two things: a computer that supports Bluetooth, and a phone that supports Bluetooth. For example, because my phone supports MP3 ringtones, I do what a lot of other people above me have suggested: I cut an MP3 down to several seconds. Then I turn Bluetooth on on the phone and my computer, and voilá! The computer sees the phone, connects to it, and then I can share files between them without having to email them to me or whatnot. This means I can share files without having to pay data transfer rates for emails. Naturally, you have to have both a phone and a computer that supports Bluetooth, and to use MP3's as ringtones, you have to have a phone that supports MP3 ringtones as well. |

might i ask how to get bluetooth on a computer with windows? i'm not so sure, but i think you just buy the bluetooth device for your phone and it connects to your computer or something like that. but you need to have a bluetooth enabled computer. QUOTE Bluetooth takes small-area networking to the next level by removing the need for user intervention and keeping transmission power extremely low to save battery power. Picture this: You're on your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone, standing outside the door to your house. You tell the person on the other end of the line to call you back in five minutes so you can get in the house and put your stuff away. As soon as you walk in the house, the map you received on your cell phone from your car's Bluetooth-enabled GPS system is automatically sent to your Bluetooth-enabled computer, because your cell phone picked up a Bluetooth signal from your PC and automatically sent the data you designated for transfer. Five minutes later, when your friend calls you back, your Bluetooth-enabled home phone rings instead of your cell phone. The person called the same number, but your home phone picked up the Bluetooth signal from your cell phone and automatically re-routed the call because it realized you were home. And each transmission signal to and from your cell phone consumes just 1 milliwatt of power, so your cell phone charge is virtually unaffected by all of this activity. check it out on here: http://www.howstuffworks.com/bluetooth2.htm |

In iTunes, open the song info dialog box, then set the start time and stop time on the Options tab. Then go to Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3. A copy of song, cut down in size, will be made. |

^Thank YOU!! Then how do I put it onto the phone? I use Bluetooth. You'll have to consult your manuals to figure out how to enable Bluetooth on your phone and your computer (if possible). I guess you can also do it over a USB connection, if you have the USB -> phone cable. |

You can look in the Device Manager and see if it has any Bluetooth devices listed.
