Anyone here got a home studio that makes music? I do, but very far from professional.

I do! everythings pretty pro except the booth. The booth is pretty raggedy actually lol. But other than that. we got an m-audio keyboard/midi controller, a tascam mixer thingy...bunch of other stuff. but since im trying to be a professional singer i need that stuff. yup.

a good condenser mic is like about 100 dollars..then you need a preamp/mixer which ranges from 100-200 dollars...cheapest one I know is for 32 dollars which still works great with all that signals etc...also you need a good audio soundcard..which I don't have but still works fine..and blow dont suck, you can cop em at your local music equipment store...like sam ash is a good example

A nice small studio would cost from 500-4000. It all depends on what your planning on doing with it.

Me and my brother have sort of a home studio, we have an electric guitar, 2 bass guitars, acoustics, keyboards, drums, a violin (and a bunch of other random instruments tongue.gif ) and we have a 4-track to record it on, a billion microphones, and a bunch of programs on the computer to mix it and stuff....then from the computer we can put it onto a CD, and put a label on it...and there you have it. happy.gif

^Let me answer your question for him/her....quality all depends on what soundcard you have, first of all. I mean if you have a very expensive condenser mic and a decent pre-amplifier/mixer, it might still not sound satisfying and professional if you don't have a perfect audio soundcard...but you should always get a condenser mic with a preamp to get decent quality..but for me, I use a very small mixer (eurorack 502) and a 115 dollar dynamic mic...dynamic mics arent that good for recordin, but still I use it because im broke and it dosent sound that bad....well at least better than a computer mic..so if you wanna start out and have fun, I suggest you save up some big bucks and buy a condenser mic..cheapest one I know is like 72 dollars? but its a USB condenser mic..the usb condenser mic dosen't sound that great though IMO..but its aight..therefore, you dont need a preamp..you can just directly plug the mic to the back of your soundcard/computer..and it'll work...but for most condenser mics, they need phantom power..in order to have phantom power, you need a preamp...hope that helps..just the basics..

SAMSON C01 USB Condenser MIC (No need for preamp/phantom power)

Example of a Regular Condenser Mic Which Needs Phantom Power & Preamp

Example of a Preamp

Since I'm a rapper I don't need that many sh*t..

Haha, home studio. I'm thinking about it... though I don't know why I would need it. Maybe once my family moves, I'll be able to get everything I need for something I don't know what yet. x)

actually you dont neccesarily need a soundcard. Our tascam mixer acts as a sound card as well. Saved us a lot of money. Because you have to drop several hundred to get a studio worthy sound card. Its one of the things you cant skimp on. And we got two incredibly good condenser mics for a 100 dollars. one was 40 and one was 60. musicians friend.com has the best deals cuz they bought all of Mars Musics inventory. And if you don't like internet shopping, most music stores like gutar center etc. will match the price in their catalougue.
