I think about 0.8% of my music (roughly 5,000 songs) was acquired legally. Ha! Take that recording industry!

That would mean you have about 625,000 songs? Holy crapfest.

I haven't even gotten the chance to download songs yet. All of my 600 some songs on my MP3 player are from my CDs.

I heard someone say that with Limewire, you can download songs for free. But isn't that illegal?

half and half. i had this question for debate. i read somewhere that the number of people downlaoding from napster was 50 mil compared to the number of people voting for the president, 30 mil. and then it was like, if america was a democracy, we should have free music downloads if we want it. (this is wht i said for my debate..only cuz everyone else said it should be illegal and it got me more points to refute them)

But that doesnt make sense, Napster is a pay-to-download legally legit service.

yeah but napster was not always that way. Napster started the free music download revoilution. Its the reason we have Kazaa and Limewire and Ares. But the guy who made it was sued because the result of free music downloads is loss of money for the music industry.

So, I download music illegally. I shouldnt, but I do. the reason I dl music is because all of my new cds are copy protected so I cant put them on my ipod and i dont think thats fair since I have no intent to share. So I dl them. And all my old cds were stolen a few years ago and now im too poor to buy all 300+ again. So yeah. But a a musician I don't actually support free music downloading. I only dl music I preciously owned or currently own and want on my ipod, because the artists do lose money. I know it looks like the artists are making the big bucks, but the music industry does everything they can to shaft the artist of their money for their music. And the free dling thing doesnt help. Musicians are the lowest payed individuals in the industry. Thats why you see people like beyonce and britney and simple plan doing ads and tv shows and movies and product endorsements. So they can make the big bucks theyve made. And thats why so many artist try to write their own music (and most suck, admit it) later in their careers because the most money is in writing. SO have a little respect for the musicians you love, it takes 5-10 years in the music business to make a profit. Everything up until that point is just a free popularity contest, while the musician is paying dues to executives, lawyers, accountants, and little peons who want their cut.

i buy a lot of CDs [like 70 or more CDs], download from kazaa [like maybe 800?], iTunes [maybe 20 songs?], and download from PureVolume but you can only download some songs [which is legal cause the artists let you download the songs]. if i find an artist i like but i can't get their songs, i sometimes buy their CDs, but i mostly download from kazaa. happy.gif

and i heard that Kazaa Lite is legal now. blink.gif

Filesharing was never illegal per se, but relevant copyright laws still apply.

No. There are small bands that play for free, and let you download their music off their sites and stuff. Same thing with Rap mixtapes, or mixtapes of any kind.

And Kazaa lite being legal. It was never illegal in the first place, was it? It might have been, the programs themselves are not illegal, remember that. It's what you share and do with those progams that illegal.

Example. I have a gun, thats not illegal. It says in the constitution that I'm allowed to bear arms. But if I shoot somebody/kill em, (Not in self-defense) thats murder, and it's illegal.

I download illegally. There is absolutely no reason why that is "wrong." I've been downloading illegally for about a year now.

I use limewire and Azureus (bittorrent.) Those are the best freaking programs ever!

I do d/l music.. bleh.. illegally? I don't use a program though. Wait so if I downlooad from a website that OFFERS MP3 downloads, is taht considered illegal? Probably.. hmm... I haven't used Kazaa(lite) for years now. Bittorrent = anime. whistling.gif

I would much rather own the cd... Now if ONLY I can find a store that sells various korean, japanese, and cantonese CDs. Then I would DEFINITELY buy the cds. :D
