I am always reading and hearing about teens not getting enough sleep and i think this is true. I am never getting enough sleep. I know adults and teachers know this because they are always saying we don't get enough sleep. Then why do they keep on giving us more and more homework that makes us stay up late. Homework is fine..but there is too much homework.

theres no way teachers are going to give us 6+ hrs hw each day. its ebcuase the teen population is getting lazy and we procrastinate.
in health class, we learned that a teen should be getting 9 hours. thats like..falling asleep at 9 and getting up at 6. |

I think the main problem teens have is procrastination. I know that I don't get so much homework, but I don't exactly start it when I get home. Nowadays, I usually start around 11-12 and end at 1ish. It's because I procrastinate by going online (to cb ahah), chatting with friends, etc that the time passes by quickly.
And, teachers are reasonable. I don't think I have ever received any assignments that took over 6 hours that the teacher had assigned that day due the next day. It's usually because of a combination of laziness and procrastination that students do their homework later and therefore sleep later and not get enough sleep. |

There should be a school where you can actually live in a apartment. You'll be told to sleep at exact time, brush your teeth, homework, and etc. it's a great idea to get rid of procasinator !!

Yeah, I believe procrastination is the main issue. I mean, most high schools in the US offer PLENTY of time to do homework, and if not, they're usually easy assignments.
I'll admit it, I'm a HUGE procrastinator. I know this year could have been PISS EASY if I just sat down and focused on my homework. If you don't want to do your work at home, stay after and get help from the teacher. I know when I did I wouldn't dare to stare off into space, because that would be wasting his/her time too. It was a big motivator. |

I don't think there is too much homework at all. I probably spend about 1-2 hours on homework a night. We get out at 3 and I go to bed at 11...that's 8 hours. It'd be pretty easy to finish homework and get a good amount of sleep. It's definitely procrastination, so stop complaining and get some self-discipline (sorry if that was harsh).

Well it's our responsibility to sleep at least around 9 or organize a way for us to finish homework before that. They're really making it seem like homework is a top priority.

I don't think it's the teacher's fault. I think it's mainly our fault for leaving the homework for last minute.

i think the main fault is procrastination. If teachers gave us work, i think if we started it when we got home then we would finish early and have the rest of the time to go online and hang out and what not. But seeing htat its the year 2006 and so on, the kids now a days always procrastinate. It's like a human reaction. You recieve work and you automatically say "ehh, i'll do it later" But i still think teachers should be considerate and maybe TRY to lessen out our homework.

Yeah, I know how you feel. During the past few weeks I've been staying up late going on Myspace, cB, making icons, graphics, etc. and I have been going to bed at around 12 or 1. I usually have to wake up at around 7 or 8 on the weekdays, and on the weekends I wake up at 9 or 10. It's a bad habit, but.. maybe some teens do develop pangs of insomnia.

I feel the same way, I know that half the time if I'd just sit down and work at a decent time rather than waiting until bedtime the night before, I'd never complain about classes being too hard or too stressful. We just don't want to admit that we're responsible for our stress. ![]() |

There should'ent be homework:
Homework leads to stress, stress leads to loss of hair, loss of hair leads to anger, anger leads to rabies. |

I don't think that homework/procrastination is the only/main reason that teenagers stay up late and thus lack an adequate amount of sleep.
I mean, for a lot of teens, there are more factors that can come into play when it comes to doing daily things: after-school activities (sports, clubs, etc.), a social life, love life, house-hold obligations (chores and whatnot), family obligations (babysitting, etc.), and having a job. Things like that. Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in a day. |

I do procrastinate with homework but I'm also involved in my school.
Especially this week I have only been getting about 6 or 7 hours of sleep per night but that's not because I watch tv or stay online for an hour but becuase I have track practice, or church, or musical practice. Lucky for me though, that stuff will be over by this weekend and I will be able to sleep ! |

I wish the President knew about think and I totally agree with you. If Bush does know, I wish he'd take action. Not to be rude, but I don't think Bush really cares about complaints about too much homework. ![]() Anyway, as for me...I go to sleep at around 11:20 and get up at 7. I usually don't feel tired right away, but I do get drowsy around the end of the school day, and then end up getting in trouble for sleeping in class. ![]() |

QUOTE QUOTE(ranniel @ Apr 3 2006, 8:40 PM) I wish the President knew about think and I totally agree with you. If Bush does know, I wish he'd take action. homework has nothing to do with the president. it's all about the state/county school board. he has bigger things to worry about than homework complaints like she said above ^^^. |

I stay up all through the night and intentionally keep myself awake. Until morning comes, I do the usual and go on through the day, trying to keep myself awake.
I know it's not right, but I don't think I can do much about it ![]() I'm exhausted, aswell as anemic, because I'm anorexic and I never eat |
