Hi. I'm moving to Maryland from Iowa (which is a major "eek" in itself wacko.gif ) this Wednesday, and of course this means I'm going to be the new girl at John T. Baker Middle School.

I am so freaking scared. happy.gif

I know how annoying new kids can be...stalking people, overly eager to impress. I just don't want to be on the recieving end of student body hate, and I was wondering if I could get some tips on what NOT to attempt during the first week or so at my new educational abode.

So, I'm basically asking advice, and please share your stories of being The New Kid.

There is this new girl in my class that overly impress the teacher (not her classmates however) and within the first week of her new school life she got a bf at school. I was like...wtf.

Hey, the best way is to talk to people around you in class, usually people are quite nice and friendly to newcomers, unless you try to be an attention whore.

Yeah, this new kid in my school is JUST like that, he tried too hard and scared everyone away.
I honestly think you should...just be yourself. Anyone can fit in if they're nice & outgoing. What grade are you going to be in?

Unfortunately at my old school, I was the girl who gave the newbies a chance. They always latched on and just...would not shut up. D: My friends would get pissed at me for bringing them into our lives. XD

I'm in eighth.

Basically just be yourself, do what you normally do, and pretty soon you'll make friends. Just don't...get really attached. That's just scary.

Haha, and Anielka, I tried being friends with the new kid once in 6th grade, and she was so weird...one day she came to school and had shaved her eyebrows. Who does that? In sixth grade? She kind of freaked me out.

So um...more advice...don't shave your eyebrows.

Haha especially because we always had these daily sentences to correct, and the same day the new girl shaved her eyebrows was when we had the sentence: "My aunt said that eyebrows grow back if you pluck them, but not if you shave them." Classic. laugh.gif

Well I moved October of my junior year from Arizona to Mass.

My advice, don't push yourself. People will naturally be interested in you, and will come to you. Obviously don't sit in a corner and be depressed, be yourself and just be friendly. It helps to find at least one person that you can call a friend and then the rest just falls into place.

Oh my god! That's so funny...and weird. Oo; Did they grow back?

Sometimes I get random urges to just tear up my eyebrows. But I resist.

@ Rachel is love: Thanks, that helps. :)

Make a few friends. Lay low. Don't go crazy and make a bad impression. Take this as an opportunity to start fresh and free from grudges, rumors, etc.

@Insanity is Laughing: This girl did that at our school in 6th grade, too. She's so weird. And she stalks this one guy like mad...even though she says she's over him. xD; She scares me. ;-;

One thing not to do is give in to doing stupid things just to try to fit in. Be sure to stand up for yourself and not cave in if people make you feel uncomfortable.

In this case, I suppose to everyone in school: First Impressions are everything. So dress comfortable, and smile. Usually I try to avoid making eye contact with the intimidating looking people, and smile at the friendly. It usually works and you'll probably won't have any drama happening for you right away.
