A livejournal cut?
I think I just linked to this a few days back:
http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75

I think that explains it pretty well?

You put a special code (<lj-cut> I do believe.) and it cuts out/off part of your entry. So I could have an entry that looked like this ::
QUOTE
I made icons today, there are 40 of them under this cut. This time I tried out a few new textures and styles, I hope you like them~!
(there's icons under this)
Oh, and I made a new layout, it features a picture of my flower garden. I don't really like it, but it'll probably stay up for a while because I'm so lazy.
The bolded text would be the cut and when you clicked on it, it'd lead you to the full entry and the icons I mentioned. So it's especially useful if you write long entries, post many pictures (pic-spams = throb.gif), fanfiction, or something of that nature.

Make sense?
