alright, we all know the supercommercial with diet pepsi, right? well if you don't, jackie chan is in a movie with diet pepsi, and diet pepsi is about to get attacked by the people and then they switch him out with his stunt double diet coke, who looks like he gets squshed.

anyways.

diet pepsi needs diet coke to do his stunts because diet pepsi's too much of a wimp to do his own stunts.

yea.

okay.

so the point of this thread is: do you think actors that use stunt doubles, like, the young ones, are wimpy?

the diet pepsi wasn't a wimp, he just didn't want to die. not wanting to die for a movie sequence isn't wimpy!!

anyway i think it depends. if the actor is old then yeah they definately should have a stunt double, old people are fragile. if they have a medical condition then they should also have a stunt double.

but if the person is young and fully capable of doing their own stunts then yes, opting for a stunt double is wimpy.

dont they have stunt doubles for insurance reasons?

because if the actor gets hurt they can sue the movie for loss of work due to injury?...

Not wimpy, although many actors can't do stunts, so they'd need a stunt double, it depends on what kind of scene they'd need it for.

Actors are trained to portray characters through acting and stunt guys are trained to do stunts. If either started doing the others job there would be a lot of unemployed stunt men or actors.

Diet pepsi wasnt wimpy, he just wanted Diet coke to die... hahaha

Well stunt doubles are payed to do what they do, In some cases yes, the actor/actress is "wimpy". But they are both getting paid...

actor does the acting, the stunt double does the stunts. the stunt double cant act, so hes not gonna try to. just like i wouldnt try to jump of a building onto the a helicopter. who cares if im young. most actors that do there own stunts are known for stunts before acting. i mean look at jackie chan, nobody goes to his movies for his "wonderful acting" they go so they can see him kick some ass.

and besides i cant even tell when they use a double anyway so its not like it ruins the movie for me.

Yeah, I totally agree.

The actor shouldn't have to waste a ton of time and money to learn all the stunts when some person that's a professional could do it for him. If they had to do that, stunt doubles wouldn't have jobs and actors would have many injuries!

^ I agree.

If it's for some kind of skateboarding move, then yeah I would understand why they might need it. But if it was for something simple, then that's a different story.

yeah that's what I thought.... ermm.gif I mean if they need stunt doubles for falling off a 3-foot ledge then they're being too dramatic, but if it's like doing something WAY more extreme than that then they would really need 'em.

Kinda like how actors shouldn't sing.. Leave the dangerous stuff to the professionals. I don't think it's wimpy at all for an actor to use a stunt double.

Oh, and Diet Coke is placed in danger because according to the commercial he is less important than Diet Pepsi. :P Not necessarily wimpy, but it's a strange rivalry between those two. Reminds me of guys and the brand of their trucks. rolleyes.gif

but some of the movies with the best stunts, like star wars (some actors, like the guys who play obi wan and anakin in the 3rd one), and the matrix, have the actual actors do the stunts.

and those generally turn out better.

^I guess they're brave enough and confident... ermm.gif I mean, on Matrix they were on strings (based on what I've seen) and safety equipment was everywhere

Or maybe they just can't do the stunt.

Some people, or most people, are incapable of flying 40 feet through the air and landing on their feet.

Nowadays, most people will do their own stunts. However, if the scene is physically demanding, that when the doubles come in. Example, Hayden was able to do most of his Episode III stunts. The only exception being, the one scene in the lava, where is he has to run up that Pole thing while it was falling down. Hayden is in shape, and he is built, but this particually scene, he wasn't strong enough to do it. THey had to bring in a guy, who was in like, shape his entire life, and REALLY built and finish the scene.

Mmm, to be honest, no.
It's pretty hard to admit that you're scared of something, and that [although it sounds contradictory] takes courage.
