The two sides are:

1. The moon landing was real: that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin actually landed on the moon in 1969.

2. The moon landing was fake: the pictures were taken from a studio on a military base and were doctored.

oh mannnn, i can't believe i didn't think this one up. I say a hoax, we did eventually land on the moon but the first landing was a sham. People do desperate things at desperate times. Ever see that Fox special on it?

But in the long run, does it really matter?

Take a look here for a very good argument about the land NOT being a hoax ---->Not faked

Yeah, there's another site that has cool little expierements that proves we landed there as well. But in the long run it doesn't matter. <--still thinks it was a hoax biggrin.gif

I'll go research it and bring some facts and what not later, gotta get my gunbound on.

I don't think I have enough evidence to decide on this. I know very little, but this isn't so far-fetched after all, if you consider the Space War with Russia. Hmm...all I know about the supposed hoax is the flag waving, which I agree on - they never mentioned if it was special or whatnot. mellow.gif

Most anti-hoax sources attribute that to the "twisting" motion used to get the flag pole into the ground. The flag was still eract though, even on the Moon it wouldn't float like that. Must've been a windy day in the desert where they shot it.

Since you're arguing pretty well on the "moon landing was a hoax" side, I guess I'll try arguing from the other side. Since I couldn't be bothered to write it myself, I'll just quote something I found talking about the flag waving thing:

QUOTE
This I find to be one of the more ridiculous observations. It is readily apparent that all the video showing a fluttering flag is one in which an astronaut is grasping the flagpole. He is obviously twisting or jostling the pole, which is making the flag move. In fact, in some video the motion of the flag is unlike anything we would see on Earth. In an atmosphere the motion of the flag would quickly dampen out due to air resistance. In some of the Apollo video we see the twisting motion of the pole resulting in a violent flapping motion in the flag with little dampening effect.

I've heard many hoax advocates claim that some of the Apollo photos show a fluttering flag. (How one can see a flag flutter in a still photograph is a mystery to me!) I can only guess that ripples and wrinkles in the flags are being perceived as wave motion. The flags where attached vertically at the pole and horizontally from a rod across the top. On some flights the astronauts did not fully extend the horizontal rod, so the flags had ripples in them. There is much video footage in which these rippled flags can be seen and, in all cases, they are motionless.

I watched the first five minutes of the Fox special. I wanted to watch it but my dad said they were stupid...

Anyway, they said that the falg was fluttering - something that can't happen it there's no air or wind to move it.

Don't be so harsh. People have their opinions. Try to be nicer, and next time, give a reason. After all, this is a debate.

I guess the guy never heard of the "videos".

That's inspired, intelligent, and witty. I'd like to respond with an answer that nearly duplicates the style but opposes the view.

Nuh-uh. No they didn't, duh.

If it's so stupid, don't reply in it. "Duh."
Did they videotape the launching of the ship? So sorry, I wasn't alive then. wink.gif

Even if they did video tape a ship taking off, it doesn't mean it was on its way to the moon...just a cover up launch to tie in with the moon landing footage. Conspiracy Theories run amuck biggrin.gif

When I heard stuff about the flag, though, they said that the flag should be straight down due to the lack of gravity or something up there. I can't remember what it was exactly, but they said it would have stuck straight down...I can't remember why, though.

That's weird, why would a lack of gravity make it stick straight down? shouldn't the opposite sorta happen? i have a C in physics, so damned if i know.

yeah i believe we eventually landed on the moon, but the first one....Even though it was a metal pole it would cause the flag to move VERY little but they have it waving more forcefully

Err, it might've been sticking straight up. I was thinking about that when I read the post. As I said, I'm not completely sure. I do know that whatever it said, the flag would not be waving.

I'll make sure to go to AFROTC in college, become a certified test pilot, join the 412th Test Wing, then try to get in a request to NASA to put me in the next program for Lunar exploration, get shot off into space, land in the moon, see the Apollo 11 landing site to prove its legitimacy, come back to Earth, bla bla bla, AND THEN I'll come back to this very forum and thread to support the fact the Apollo program was real. Yes its an excellent plan...shifty.gif

But yes I do believe that we landed there.

Tough question...

I saw once that it was a hoax on tv, cause they said that there was no wind on the moon, and the flag was blowing? huh.gif

I strongly believe in the First Lunar landing....and if it was fake...then well i have on thing to say....the men in the suits much have been HUGE because those suits are not light at all...just the pak alone on there back weights about 150-200 lbs...then the suit weights about another 60-80 lbs....now adays things are lighter for easier storage...but then the things where very heavy.....and in the site that gave agruements bout the lunar landing....they said there is no atmosphere on the moon that is a false....every planetary object has an atmosphere how slight but it is there....

It wasnt blowing.
It had wires on its edges so that it would be stiff.

They say that the flag should have been straight because there is no wind or air current on the moon....but its not true because there are solar winds and if you look at the flag pole there is an arm extension on the top keeping the flag out there because it can still move

So the "was the moon landing a hoax" debate turned into "was the flag waving" debate. come on people, find some more facts and arguments. a flag waving isn't going to convience anyone that we did or didn't goto the moon that faithful day.

The thing about the fox special (about the hoax) is that the guys who made it don't give you both sides of the story. They probably don't know very much about what they are talking about because they have ALOT of things wrong with what they are sayin happy.gif

If you all have enough time, go to this page Did we land on the moon? and then come back and tell me what you think. It's a really good page that has alot of facts, and is very accurate.

The thing about the flag is that there's low gravity and it takes a while for it to stop waving after the astronauts plant it in the ground. Did you guys ever notice that there's not one clip of it waving when it's NOT near an astronaut?

Haha okay, wildgriffin, I'll say something else: I remember hearing that the light on one of the astronaut's helmet was wrong or something...it wasn't supposed to be where it was, considering the direction of the sun...or at least, I don't know. I really need to dig up some research on this. mellow.gif

i heard that the flag had the waving position because the flag had the waves "built" right in.
