Contact box not working right!, I think its the hover effects...can I just remove them? Options

I am trying to update my layouts but still want to use a custom contact box instead of the one that is set up on the overall layout code. The problem is, when I try to use my contact box code, there are black/grey blocks over the links, and they get highlighted when you hover. I know it has something to do with the hover coding in the layout, so I'd just assume get rid of the hover effects on the whole thing all together. Can anyone help me?
