Do you press 1 before the area code when dialing a number?
I press 1 when I'm dialing. It's a habit. But on my cellphone, I add everyone without the 1's because then it gets too long and it starts to scroll :x and i don't like that. |

Yeah only when it's long distance or cell phone. I don't know why you have to press one when calling someones cellphone.

 i don't really remember. just one day, everyone was dialing one in front of the area code.

When I was in Texas, even local calls required the area code, but no 1 since it wasn't long distance. Every number was a ten-digit number, blah. Now that I'm in Oklahoma I still have my Texas cell phone, so every number I dial is long distance no matter what, and so then I have to dial 1+the area code. It sucks, it'll be nice to get back to simple seven-digit numbers again.

Yeah, its the US Country Code. Every country has a different code. For example:
Hi, my name is Sierra. I live in San Marcos, CA, and my area code is 760. I would like to call my friend Kara, who lives in Rancho Bernado, CA, her area code is 858. So I would have to call this number: 1858 - 555 - 1234 Here is another example: Hi, my name is still Sierra, and I still live in San Marcos, CA, USA, and my area code is still 760. I would like to call my friend, Elena, who lives in Mexico City, Mexico, area code 432. Her country code is 2 (I'm not sure about this though, if you're calling out of country you have to check on that) So, I would have to call this number: 2432 - 555 - 4321 Get it? --->Sierra |

Only for long distance numbers. If it's local, then no. When I just dial the area code and it's long distance, it doesn't work without the 1.

I never press a one. except for long distance. the Dallas area has like 5 or six area codes now, and you have to dial it to reach someone, but you can call all of them without a one. If you dial a one it will give you a message saying it is not neccesary to dial a one, please hang up and try again. But for long distance obviously I do. Yeah.

I assume USA is 1 because we invented the telephone.
Yes other countries have phone numbers much longer than 7 digits, but the country code makes sure it gets to the right country. 1-650-453-7864 is in USA while 32-650-453-7864 is in umm..Malaysia. So country codes are important!!! |

I only dial one when i call out of area EX:
I live in the 239 if im calling miami:305 then id dial 1-305-***-**** but if im dialing naples:239 id dial ***-**** get it? lol

Dail 1 before the Area Code for long distance. :]
I believe a "1" signals the phone that there is about to be an area code and a "0" signals an international call. Which is why there are no seven-digit numbers that begin with "1" or "0". |
