Use the magic wand and select the black and color it gray? I dunno, I can't think of a way of doing it without ruining the guy and the girl.

In Windows XP you can define your own BG colour...
Control Panel -> Appearance and Themes -> Change the Computer's theme -> Appearance -> Advanced -> Application Background |

^To get to appearance and themes, you have to click on display. It's the monitor with the paintbrush on top.
