In a nutshell:

A tourist in Hawaii, Judith, lost her $500 camera during the trip. In the camera held a memory card and 500 taken pictures. She returned home from Hawaii without her camera, but a Hawaii park ranger called and said someone had found her camera! He gave her the contact phone number.

She called the phone number, and the other line did confirm that they found the camera, but refused to give it back. They claimed their diabetic son was fond of the camera, and they could not bear to take it from him. Judith agreed on a deal where the couple would send $50 and the memory card with the 500 pictures.

2 weeks later a package arrived with only a CD burned with her pictures. A note attached said that the son needed the memory card so the camera would work. She called them back saying that she wanted her memory card back, as it was $120 alone. The couple exclaimed that she was lucky to get anything back at all and promptly hung up.

Judith tried calling the couple's local police, but since the couple lived in Canada and the camera was lost in USA, the Canadian police cannot act.

So sad! How the hell can you just keep a $500 camera?

How would you feel if you were Judith? I'd post the Canadian family's info on the internet and let the blogging community barrage them with spam.

thats just wrong I'm sorry. If its not yours, give it back. If you don't want to give it back, pay for it. But don't just take someones belonging and hang it over their head like that. What heartless people. Who cares if the kid has diabetes? Its not your camera! Lots of people have diabetes. Theyre probably lying anyway. Freakin Canadians. (no offense to candian people of course <3)

That reminds me of what happened to me as a kid. I was wearing my beloved Mikihouse hair elastic with adorable ornaments on it, but being my forgetful self, I dropped it in the parking lot.

My aunt went out to try and find it, and she saw a couple with their child holding it. She tried to get it back but the couple said "Hey, you lost it and we found it, so screw off."

Yeah anyway.

This is quite the dumb. Diabetic son my ass. Just because your son's freaking diabetic, doesn't mean you can steal.

OMG that's so horrible, don't worry I believe in karma. That kid had to repeat the 4th grade two times.

Wow, that's really low and a pathetic excuse. Just because he's diabetic doesn't mean tha't he's crippled or anything... They really have no right at all to keep the camera or the memory card. But yeah, karma will get back at them.

while diabetes can be fatal... it's not like their son has cancer. that's insane. they probably don't have a son. what greedy lying freaks.

what assholes. just because they supposedly have a son, who also is supposedly diabetic and is "fond" of the camera doesn't mean that they have the right to keep it. they need a good hard smack.

Because the other couple is basically STEALING her camera and memory card. It is ridiculus to expect her to buy another one because people are tools.

I bet they don't even have a diabetic son.

Canada has extradition treaties with the US right? If they really wanted to push it, they could ask to have the people who took the camera extradited I guess.

ehh thats it ? ... i have to deal with worser issues.....cousins facing criminal charges even stealing stuff from there close . but yea....thats pretty bad .

I read it again and I feel pretty angry. But still, at least she knows it's not damaged or anything. Actually, knowing the people are pretty messed up, maybe it is. But at least it's not down the drain or something, ya know?
