I don't know where this belongs, but family counts as relationship, I think.

You see, I never really knew my grandmother that well, but I've always felt like there was a special bond between us because we're in common in some ways.

Then I found out that the only thing we could have in common with is our blood.

Grandma hated my mother because my mother came from a poor family (nonetheless a very educated family and long story as to why they dislike each other) and I supposed she transfers that hate to my brother and I. She told me that I looked like my mother, and as a child, I thought it was a compliment. Now I know those 'compliments' for what they are...

It was more than ten years since I've seen her, and I cried when I finally did, knowing that this was my chance to get to know my grandmother. Knowing what I know now makes me feel ridiculous to ever have thought she cared.

What about your grandmothers? Did they have give you a fake smile and compliment you with empty words? Do they care to know what you've been doing the ten years that you're apart from each other? Do they criticize your flaws and see nothing of your accomplishments?

My grandma is paralyzed in her left foot and right arm. I feel really bad for her because she has to stay in the house the whole time. Ever since my grandpa passed away she has been very lonely. She lives with my aunt in China. I would see her during summer vacation and hope to bring joy into her life.

unfortunately i never got to know most of my grandparents cuz i was too young to remember them while they were alive. but i do have one grandmother left and we arent that close which saddens me...but the only reason for this is because she plays favorites. and she favors my cousins more than me and my sisters. its always been like that...this might sound all to confusing but u would understand more if u knew the situation with my dad, uncle, and grandma. but thats just too long of a story and i dont wanna bore u. so yea i wish i knew my grandma more cuz i hear its great having one around. sad.gif

I only have one surviving grandparent left, my grandmother. She's cool - she likes going to casinos, and since she's pretty good, she ends up giving me money biggrin.gif. But I do help her out as much as I can - since she lives pretty close to me, I do some errands and help out around her place as much as I can. I try to spend as much time with her as possible because she's the only grandparent I have left, and I never really took the time to know my other three.

Oh I understand alright.

Mine plays favors, too, she favors the ones that gives her the most money.

Yea, my friends tell me: my grandma gave me this for Christmas/birthdays... My grandma's great... blah blah.

All I ever needed from mine was some semblence of care.

She kicked my Mom out of her house when my mom was 6 months pregnant with my brother, and also when my Mom was 3 months pregnant with me. I had two older siblings who died because of my Mom's lack of nutrition.

That must be a nice feeling.. but then you missed out on parental love? that's sad too...

I guess you really can't have everything you want.

one of my grandmas lives in korea so i never get to see her. the other one actually lived with me for 2-3 years. the thing is i never treated her the way i should have. i was probably going through that whole teenage phase where i don't want to talk to the parents or basically any adult. but then she passed away recently and i still carry this guilty feeling that i should have gotten closer with her when i had the chance. and since she lived with me it was a bigger oportunity, but i blew it and it's my fault. she did love me and my sister, and i loved her too. i just failed to show it. so i hope that you will take an opportunity to grow closer with your grandmother.

Thank you so much for sharing your story.

That's the thing though, your grandma loves you. Mine outright dislikes me because I'm too much like my Mother, and she dislikes my brother because he's under my control (ehhe, not really, he's an older brother but he looks after me). All she talked to me about was money and revenge, and only a bit of family history... She encourages sibling rivalry and also rivalry between her kids and her other grand kids. I hate it. I abhor it. I destest ever wanting to know her.

my 77 year old grandma came from new york cuz she was all alone and none of my aunts and uncles would let her into their home...so my family did and she lieks to cook korean food...so she would wash korean vegetables to make kimchi outside and my friends wud tease me, and she would always accidently call the wrong # and i had to deal with the angry people, and she would always yell at me and my mom... so i got really upset at her and didnt show her the respect that i should have...and one night i heard her crying..:-( and the next day, she left back to nyc...she called me a few weeks later and said, "ur happy since im gone right? i miss u"

i think everyones going to be like that once they get old...my friends grandma also hates her because she gets bad grades and shes "stupid"...

i always wished i could meet my grandmother from my daddy's side. she died when i was 3 and i never met her. Everyone says that im her recarnation. I look just like her when she was a child. And i share her same taste in food.

My grandma on my mommy's side is a whole different story. She kicked my mommy out of the house when she was pregnant with my brother. My mommy worked at the bank and grandma would make her steal or else she can never come back. She would steal things from our house. And she would tell all my parents friends to not socialize with them because they are bad people.

I hear these stories and i shiver at the thought of what kind of mother can do this to her children

and when my report cards come home. she awards me with money like she can buy my affection. but i never take it even though i know its rude not to. she comments on everything i do..from what time i wake up in the morning and what i should wear to bed.

its just hard to try and love her knowing that she put my mother out in the streets...

both of my grandmothers are proud of me because i`m their only grandchild that lives in america. and my mom always tells them my accomplishments and they congratulate me. i never heard any controversy over my grandmothers..it`s just their offspring that bring up the controversy. my half-cousin steals money from my 80 year old grandmother and my parents are furious because it`s their money they`re sending to the philippines for my grandmother, mostly, and other relatives...usually it was my dad`s side of the family that was selfish and greedy [not my dad of course. he has common sense.] and for my mom`s side of the family..i only have one bad aunt and i`m the only neice of hers that actually loves her.

thing is..old people can be stubborn. and it would be pointless to tell them to listen to you. when old people have grudges...THEY HAVE GRUDGES...even in their will that they sometimes leave behind.. ermm.gif
