hello people. today is random day.

there are quite a few ways to open an envelope. some are:

you can tear it open at the top.
you can peel up the flap.
you can tear it open at the bottom.
you can tear it open at the side.
you can tear it in half.
you can never get mail and thus never have to open an envelope.

now, there are many advantagest to each method. let's go over them.

you can tear it open at the top.
the top is where you put letters in, so it makes sense for this to be the place to tear open the envelope. it make putting the letter back in the envelope quite easy, and preserves most the information on the envelope. However, it is a long way to tear, and if you don't have a letter opener, you have to use your finger, or tear off the edge.

you can peel up the flap
again, the top is where you put letters in, so it makes sense. a lot fo the same benifits of tearing it open at the top, except the flap can be folded over. quite nice, except if the envelope is sealed, then it's hard to do.

you can tear it open at the side.
this one's my personal favorite. you just tear down the left side of the envelope. the letter slides right out. the packet is deeper than it is wide, so it's harder for the letter to fall out. However, it's a bit harder to put letters back in as well. you have to tear off the edge, and if you tear off too much, you could take off part of the return adress, which isn't good. but it's a short way to tear. It's overall quite efficient and useful.

you can tear it in half
this one's a bit harder to pull off. you have to tear it down the middle without harming the ltter, which is quite hard. and if you do suceed, you've torn the adress in half. and now you don't have an envelope to put the letter back into. generally, it's quite useless. in fact, i don't even know why anyone would use this to open a letter.

you could not get mail
easily the most practical o fthem all, it's quite boring.

so; now that you all know about a few of the ways to open an envelope. others i have not covered include disolving the envelope or making a slit in the front middle of the envelope. these are a bit less common however, and are not gone over in depth.

be creative with oyur envelope opening endevours. you will find that getting mail is much more enjoyable and fun, and you can easily identify who opened the mail.

ih8skol

if you need to, you can get a nice set of white standard envelopes. put a piece of blank paper in each one, and practice opening with different methods untill you find one that suits you.

hasta la vista, baby.

(what's your favorite way?)

Mines too.

You know what really sucks? When you have to open and envelope that someone taped.. all over. I mean, I once got a letter where it was taped (using packaging tape) to seal it. I ended up opening the letter from the bottom.

I like to open it with the flap, but you know that almost never works out well. It never tears off easily and perfectly *sigh* I don't like ripped envelopes. pinch.gif

Letter openers are crap. They never seen to cut straight mellow.gif Or they don't actually tear it right, thus the envelope looks ripped, rather than cut. WTH. stubborn.gif

I should do it at the side, but it just bothers me. I don't know why.

I am probably the world's worst envelope opener. I always try to save the envelope, especially if it's cute, but I end up completely destroying it...and almost ripping the letter. pinch.gif

<wolf> 1. Save every Free Credit Card Offer you get, Put it in pile A
<wolf> 2. Save every Free Coupon You get, put that in pile B
<wolf> 3. Now open the credit card mail from pile A and find the Business Reply Mail Envelope.
<wolf> 4. Take the coupons from pile B and stuff them in the envelope you hold in your hand.
<wolf> 5. Drop the stuffed to the brim envelopes in your mail and walk away whistling.
<wolf> I have now received two phone calls from the credit card companies telling me that they received a stuffed envelope with coupons rather then my application. They informed me that it they are not pleased that they footed the bill for the crap I sent them. I reply with "It says Business Reply Mail" I'm suggesting coupons to you to ensure that your business is more successful. They promptly hang up on me.
<wolf> Now, I did this for about a month before it got boring, so I got an added idea! I added exactly 33 cents worth of pennies to the envelope so they paid EXTRA due to the weight. I got a call informing me about the money, I said it was a mistake and I demanded my change back. After yelling at the clerk and then to the supervisor they agreed to my demands and cut me a check for the money. I hold in my hand at this very moment a check from GTE Visa for exactly 33 cents.

mail is fun...

I guess I prefer opening the flap.
Sometimes when the envelope is sealed too tight, then the flap will break apart.

LOL! laugh.gif

I'm awful at opening envelopes. I usually stick my finger underneath the flap and try to drag it across the top, thus creating a huge mess. But it gets the job done.

lol, I think this has my vote for favorite topic of the month.
If there ever was something like that, lol.

I tear the envelope at the top with my finger.
I don't have the time or patience to tear it at the side or whatever.
and I dunno, i've always liked to tear it at the top :)
Of course I could get one of those mail opener things, but that would take the fun out of it!

You know what you do? Throw the letter in the air, while it's in the air, use a letter opener, and do Omnislash on it. But hard to perform since you would cut up the whole letter, you have the have precision cutting skills!

Hmm, it depends on who it's from, but usually, I use a letter opener to open it from the top where the flap is. If I'm in a hurry, I'll just try to peel up the flap.
