What do you think about same sex marriages? Are you for, or against them?

Me, I'm for them

I'm against gay marriages, but I'm not against gay people as they do not have a choice in their sexuality...

I can't really defend this because it's just how I feel.

Well, for those of you who are against it, could you provide some reasoning for it?

Yes, I would like to know why. My simple theory is: If they're happy that way, let them be. America is about pursuing happiness, and that's what should matter. It shouldn't matter if your religion thinks it's wrong. It shouldn't matter if you think it's disgusting - I'm sure you've done other things once or you will that seem horrid to others. It shouldn't matter that two people in love should be denied marriage because they're different. Yeah...that's my thought on this. happy.gif

I feel that even though it's not the norm, I totaly accept it.

People have a choice to THEIR sexuality, and the right to choose whomever they love. We should not be the ones to tell them who to love, and who not to, - they should be the only ones to.

Also, if we prohibit it, we are, in a way, holding people against their will. Is that infringing on the US's theory of "life, liberty, and FREEDOM" ?

Thank you Kathleen, I completely agree...

And for those of you who are against it, you know you're being discriminant, right?

Gay people are people too. And like heterosexuals, they should be allowed to marry, if they feel strongly of their partners.

Like I've said, I can't really defend it, because it's just how I feel. But I will try:

Gay marriages will involve adoptive children. These children WILL NOT have a choice in whether or not they will be raised by gay couples. As there are still many people who are against gay marriages, these children must face this society of people who looks at them strange, or deal with their class mates taunts.

I guess, then my main concern isn't the marriage itself, but rather, the results of these marriages.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with gay people. They are just normal people like us and they have all the rights in the world to do as they wish.

Not all gays adopt, though. Futhermore, those children will eventually leave their parents...they'll move on in life...it's sort of like with cloning...how will they feel. I know what you mean, though.

Well, looking back at my post... I realized something... I would be one of those people who'll 'look strangely' at these kids who have no choice... I don't think I have a right to do that to them because that choice was robbed from them (as with most adoptive infants).

I guess then, I'm sort of neither against nor for it. Let things work themselves out.

Yeah, and also, no matter what, I don't think these couples would go out of their way to mistreat this child, you know? Granted, the kid himself might not like the fact that he has two fathers or two mothers, but at least he's alive and has a home. ermm.gif

Well, if or when the law accepts gay marriages, I promise not to treat these children differently, because I know that they'll have a heck of a time dealing with other people already. But to me, it's still strange to acknowledge man and man/woman and woman, as husbands and wives. We'd need to change those definations.

You mean something like this?:

QUOTE
A union between two persons having the customary but usually not the legal force of marriage: a same-sex marriage

That's one of the definitions for marriage I found on dictionary.com
I guess it's just a hard concept to accept right now... but like someone've said, all this will be like the norm in about 50 years.

i think same sex marriage is fine. i mean, it's really their own business. i don't think the goverment or whatever should be involved in it. let them be happy. i mean, gay people are just the same as people who aren't gay. just let them do whatever they want.

One question though, there was one person (I've forgotten his xanga), who argued quite articulately that if gay marriage is allowed then marriage btw immediate relatives should be allowed, too, as in incest.

Not the exactly same thing, I know, but if certain rights are given to one group then shouldn't it be given to others as well?

like it is with abortion, many people believe that American citizens should be given rights to make their own decisions since America is all for the rights of the people...but it really depends on your own point of view to determine whether same sex marriages should be legal or not. On the religious point of view, people believe that marriage is reserved only for a male and a female, as it is said so biblically, but if you were to take into account human rights for all people and the freedom of choice, Americans should be able to decide for themselves what they want to do...

i cant believe that this topic is even being discussed. i mean its wrong 2 discriminate someone just because of somethin someone is. i mean not letting ppl marry just because of the definition of the daym word?! man, ppl stop being so narrow minded and just let then marry. they have every rite as other ppl 2 marry.
if ur so stuck up about not letting them marry cause a marriage is between a man and an women, then change it. change the definition 2 a union between two people. god......................

it just pisses me off that gays are being discriminated because of theier sexuality. i mean they're just like anybody else.

It may be a matter of mostly a person's religion or whatever, but I feel that homosexuality is a sin. I won't condone a sin by saying that gay marriage is ok.

No. Absolutely not.

As long as there's enough people populating our earth (which we seem to have an abundence of), i could care less about gays. So long as they dont give me any looks....cause that's totally gay.

People should be able to marry/do whoever they chose.
Isn't that what freedom is about?
So what if the bible says that it's wrong?
The bible also tells you not to eat meat on fridays. Don't you eat meat on fridays?

Tell me where it says in the bible not to eat meat on fridays? Im guessing this is just exaggeration. (Dang I think I spelled that wrong)

The bible does have things in it such as no eating hooved animals and stuff like that...many extravagant laws. This was before Jesus sacrificed his life for our sins. Also, Paul had a dream with a lot of animals in a net where God told him that it was ok to eat the animals.

Anyway. _unsure.gif

Yep actually the bible doesn't say anything specifically about masturbation. It's one of those gray areas that have some religious scholars divided. Don't ask me. Nice try though...hehe the bible never says anything like that though.

"Thou shalt not gratify thyself by touching thine genitalia"

There's nothing wrong with it, it doesn't affect me so I don't mind as much. =). Everybody has the right to marry who they want (i.e.: 13 yr old with that 40-year old woman).

this nation was founded on a christian foundation, am i wrong? i read it in a text book somewhere. and as christian laws, going back to the bible, doesnt it say that marriges are between a Man and a Woman? I leave you with that question.

also, if they were to adopt kids, in a gay marrige a man cant simulate for a mother, and a woman cant simulate for a father. every child needs a MOM and a DAD.

check this, this is cool. I have nothing against gay people. I just disagree with their lifestyle.

but why is it that the gay people are awlays funnier - quote: darnell, my gay friend. he's cute wink.gif .
