cheese, well it's okay, but it is fattening. I don't know, it all ends up going to the hips, so I say no to cheese. lol. Actually, it's okay, but taking it sparingly isn't too bad. Yay, first one to post, I think...

Should this really be in debate? blink.gif Anyways, the importance of cheese is to help you get calcium and whatnot...the nutrients humans and animals need from it...

Fact of the day...

Cheese from cows does not contain calcium. It's later added to cheese and milk products during processing.

No other animal drinks the milk of other animals after they have reached a certain age. Does that bother anyone else? And no..The dog isn't going to milk the cow, but its still possible to take milk from coyotes month after pregnancy, but you don't see other grown animals gulping it down happy.gif

You know which cheese I find most fascinating? Single slice cheese! Those things are yowza! Individually wrapped! It doesn't get better than that...

I'm all for the squishy, fresh mozarella kind of cheese.

Anything else I don't like.

But I eat it for the calcium, since I don't like milk or yogurt either. _dry.gif

"Cheese contains a high concentration of essential nutrients, in particular high quality protein and calcium, as well as other nutrients such as phosphorus, zinc, vitamin A, riboflavin, and vitamin B12. In 1999, cheese provided 25% of the calcium available in the U.S. food supply, a six-fold increase from 4% in 1909." continued article here

The Swiss think differently. :P But wouldn't it be boring if we all had the same tongue?

Why are there holes in Swiss cheese? Why not leave the holes out and have more cheese?

cheese is an important cultural adaptation to let humans consume cow milk. adults were always lactos intolerant in the past (way past)

eventually, however, evolution allowed adults to drink milk.

the cutural adaptation of cheese allowed for better usage of milk. the eventual evolutionary adaptation makes cheese unessisary, at least as far as the usage of milk goes.

Most of the world, save for northern Europeans and North Americans of northern European descent, are lactose intolerant. This seems to be a genetic trait; human babies are able to process lactose up until a certain point, at which this gene turns off the ability for the human digestive system to process lactose. Most adults in the world are unable to process lactose. This was discovered after UN relief efforts of the 1950's. Most of the relief came from the US and Europe--places where people could drink milk. However, most other people in the world got sick; it was at this point that scientists from the West realized that humans cannot process lactose.

Lactose intolerance is not to be confused with a milk allergy, which causes an allergic reaction that, in extreme circumstances, can result in death. Consuming milk does not kill a lactose intolerant person. He simply gets sick because the lactose sits in his intestines; intestinal bacteria feeds on the lactose (a form of sugar) and it begins to ferment, which causes excessive gas to develop in the digestive tract.

As noted, cheese is a product which allows milk to be processed by some lactose intolerant individuals; however, in this vein, yogurt is actually more important. "Live culture" yogurt contains active bacteria that process lactose, converting it into lactic acid and other by-products. This conversion essentially processes the lactose for the consumer, who can then eat yogurt without fear of getting sick from lactose intolerance.

"Live culture" yogurt contains active bacteria that process lactose, converting it into lactic acid and other by-products. This conversion essentially processes the lactose for the consumer, who can then eat yogurt without fear of getting sick from lactose intolerance.

Haha: Vegan cheese tastes just as good and isn't fattening. That way, you can eat more meat to make up for it.

It sickens me when I see people using American cheese. American cheese is disgusting. The only thing "American" about it is the fact that it is almost entirely processed and artificial and has almost nothing natural in it. I don't see why people use something like American when they could use something like provolone, Swiss, or pepper jack.
