I have been looking into modern satanism. I liked alot of it, and I am concidering converting. I went to the school councler and a friend came along for "emotional support" aka: ditch math class, and when I explained it too the councler, she says she was worried because she belives in it too. I was like wtf....you just heard about it? I am a terrible explainer, and I feel like she is only doing it to copy me. She said at lunch, that WE don't really know what it is about. I told her YOU don't know what it is about, and got mad. I feel bad about feeling so bad, I just don't like how she decided to convert without even reading about it. Do I have the right to be mad? 0.o

BTW: Modern satanism is not like traditional, traditional is more evil cultish, I don't actually belive in satan. biggrin.gif

it's a religion, everyone can choose to believe whatever they want. if you feel uncomfortable about it talk to her.

i guess it sounds like she's copying you, but i don't think you should overreact too/too much. just talk to her and tell her that you're converting because you think it sounds cool. just tell her you've done a lot of research and reading up about it unlike her and that she should convert just because you're converting. if she doesn't get it then just let her do whatever...it doesn't matter anyways, i'm sure if she's really not into it than she really won't stick to it wink.gif

but nothing you've said indicates that she's copying you. Isn't it totally possible that this girl could be an active member of the religion. she could just be very reserved and quiet about it...especially considering how unpopular the religion is. And by unpopular I just mean in comparison to the predominance of Christianity.

even if she is just copying you, shouldn't you encourage her to learn more about it instead of getting upset by it? I mean, most religions encourage bringing in new members.

To me, LaVeyan Satanism never seemed much like a convert worthy "belief system." It is so little like a conventional religion that it doesn't exactly make much sense to convert to it. You can simply remain an atheist, and believe in some very basic non-passive philosophies of responsibility, closure, and human nature.

I mean, what is the big deal?

Why do you care?

Anyways...

I've met people like your friend. Just let them do what they want. If they want to dive headfirst into something as important as a belief system then let them. You can stand and know that you have a true interest in it and aren't doing it to be "cool" or "unique" or to be "rebelious". What you can do however is start educating you and your friend in satanism. After a time if he/she is truly interested he/she will stick through it and go on with you. But if he/she is as I'm seeing, a follower, they'll lose interest soon.

Most santanists I've met don't truly believe in Satan as a living being. He is used more as a figurehead for their religion, a symbol in a sense.

Um if she copied your religion, she would be taking the idea of modern satanism and changing it a bit. She didn't copy your religion, but ended up worshipping/following the same practices as you are. You're just being selfish and close-minded if you won't let anyone in. What if there is someone else in the world who became a modern satanist way before you did? I guess that makes you a copy-cat, right?

She seems to feel strongly about it, yet she hasn't really said why. I was interested.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I think you should try to explain it further to her and make her realize that you're serious about this, and she doesn't have to take this jump with you.

Everyone has the right to their own religion, so I guess your friend really isn't doing anything wrong. But I know how it feels to be copied, and it stinks. You want to individualize yourself, or try to be slightly unique and the next second someone else id doing the exact same thing. It makes it so hard to define yourself. ou should just tell your friend why it's bothering you so much.
