I know there are other topics about smoking and what not, however, I wanted to talk specifically about hookah. If you have no idea what hookah is, look here.
Anyway, I've noticed that lately it seems to have become more popular (at least that I know of) and more people seem to be going to hookah bars and whatnot. Well, I just have some questions for you all. Have you tried it? Would you try it? What are your thoughts about it? Just basically have a discussion about here. (by the way, I put this in health because it seemed other people put smoking topics in here, but if it should be moved to some place like The Lounge, please do so) -------------- So yes, I tried hookah before. I don't really think it's all that great, it's more of just something to do. Plus it's interesting. I don't get a buzz or anything off of it. I've tried various flavored tabacco like strawberry, watermelon, and orange. I don't really think it's as bad for you when compared to smoking cigarrettes or weed. After all it is legal once you turn 18 and the effects of it are a lot less damaging, or so I've heard/read. |

A friend of mine has a hookah, and I've smoked out of it a few times, but not for a long time, and I doubt I will again. I'm not a big fan of smoking; in fact, I find it pretty stupid. The risks far outweigh the benefits. I'm not exactly a "health nut," but I try to refrain from doing stupid things to damage my overall health, and smoking is certainly one of those things.
In terms of danger, smoking out of a hookah is not significantly more or less dangerous than other forms of smoking. |

Haha, you know I've never done it =] I don't think I'll ever try it just because of my bias towards smoking I guess. I understand it's safe and legal and whatever, but I just don't see the point in doing it.

i would never smoke... my friends brother's friend had mengicocal and smoked a hookah with his friends and ...  ... he died... but almost infected his friends....

no 2) Would you try it? 30-40% yes ... i'm just curious about the texture, taste, smell, and everything. It's more of an influence from people. What are your thoughts about it? I think it's pretty interesting because i never seen it before. That doesnt mean that i would most likely to do it ... but i have good control over my desires. |

Hmm, I'm actually interested in hookah-ing, but just for the experience I guess. My boyfriend did it, and he didn't really like it. Eh, I guess i'll just have to see for myself.

I know some people who've done it, or do it, but I never have. I don't think I will, I don't really have a desire too. There's only so many ways I want to smoke something.

Have you tried it? - Yep. My first time was on Saturday. I've smoked out of it quite a few times, but I did eventually stop. My other friends were really going at it when we went that night.
Would you try it? - Just did. What are your thoughts about it? - It tastes pretty good, IMO. Although, I'm definitely not addicted to it. I believe it's flavored air. Actually, Chrissy, if you only smoke some of it, it doesn't pose such a big threat as smoking a cigarette. ALTHOUGH, if you're doing it constantly, it's just as hazardous. My experience? The taste seemed interesting, especially since it was air. The smoke from Hookah isn't as thick. Smoking in general is bad. I know this may sound hypocritical, but I don't like it when people smoke. I have friends that smoke or have smoked before, and although that doesn't change my friendship with them, smoking is a bad habit. I probably won't do Hookah again for a little while, but I just thought it was nice to try it, since I'm 18 and all... You only live life once. Ha. |

On my friend's birthday, we went to this hookah bar and they did it, I refrained. They also did it in this guy's dorm room. (I wouldn't exactly call him a friend since none of us like him very much. Eh, let's call him an acquaintance.) I know that hookah is supposed to be a way watered down version of tobacco, but it's still a pretty iffy thing for me. But it sure does smell pretty.

I'd prefer to do something with more reward. I mean, according to people here, you don't get much of a buzz. My friends who've tried it say it's alright. If I'm going to smoke something, it better give me a damn good buzz. I'll still to the occasional cigarette and blunt.

Hm.. well..
I've had hookah in a few flavors like.. melon, strawberry, and i think kiwi. Actually when I used to go to my friends house we used to hookah a lot. Most of them are around 18-2x. I don't think hookah is that great or that bad. Hookah is just hookah. With hookah I guess I can hookah a lot without getting buzzed. A few of my cousins do hookah too. Hookahs not too bad. I guess in a way I kind of like it. Ohhhhh and i'm not a smoker or anything. Smoking hookah does it even count as smoking? Haha mkay. |

I love the hookah. Really I do. Its really soft and gentle and can actually help your respiration system if you get into the habit of taking really big drags (like the one pictured above) and it tastes good. Its very gentle, like smoking steam. I've only done it like 3 times (if that) and I got a buzz. If you want to get a buzz, just sit there and smoke for a long time. Then try to walk around. you'll feel it, but it doesnt last. Its a great way to relax and just talk to people without breaking the law (unless youre underage) and without harming your health. and I'm against smoking cuz I'm a singer. But hookah like I said is like breathing steam. we used to ahve contests to see who could suck in the most. But I digress. Just be careful you know whats in your hookah. People will put weed and stuff that even worse in there so make sure you know who you hookah with.

I don't smoke. Well I used to smoke cigarrettes and Black and Mild, but I quit during the middle of my Sophmore year in High School. I promised myself I would never smoke anything again.
My ex girlfriend loves to smoke Hookah. When we were dating, I told her not too but she wouldn't listen to me. Oh well. |

This is strange, I had heard about this not too long ago.. One of my friends that lives on campus was telling me about it between classes but didn't have time to really explain it, so I didn't know what it was called or really anything about it. Leave it to CB to tell me. :)
I don't think I'd ever try it. It's interesting, but not enough that I need to experience it. *shrug* Thanks for bringing this up, it was killing me, and now I know.

While those waterpipes look awesome and it seems like there's less of a risk, I don't think I'd ever try hookah. There's probably more bad stuff about it that we'll find out about in 20 years or so. But one day I might just find that cool-lookin' gizmo too pretty to resist. ;]

Hookah's really not harmful at all unless you're sitting there smoking it nonstop all day...
Have you tried it? No, but I've had many opportunities. Would you try it? Maybe. It would depend on the situation. What are your thoughts on it? I don't think it's that unhealthy, but don't break the law to smoke it. You have to be 18.

hmm; i've never tried it, and i dont think i would try it. At least not at this age. Maybe in the future like a 30% chance i'll try it just to see what its like. But i dont think my parents would really approve. If it does no harm to the body and its not illegal&its a way to help people relax without any negatives then it seems like its a interesting way to smoke

yeah hookah is really big with my friends..they go almost every week ..kinda pressured me to try it...but i didnt do much.. im always the only girl w/ a bunch of guys hookahing >.< ..and were all underage when we go to the hookah bars...most of the ppl there are all nyu students..and theyre like..whats that lil asian girl doing here..hahaha

its a big thing now, like a social thing. whether its less damaging than smoking other things, its still smoking and its still bad for you in some way.

I've tried it, and I love it. It's fun and smells good. You're not supposed to get any buzz from it anyway.. It's just an enjoyable social thing to do, with trying to make smoke circles and everything, that's all. Heh. Once I turn 18, that's the first thing I'm buying. =) |

What are your thoughts about it? well, after reading the wikipedia article on it, I guess there's not too much of a difference between smoking cigarettes and hookah.
