hiccups lead to two deaths

QUOTE
BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) - A Colombian man accidentally shot his nephew to death while trying to cure his hiccups by pointing a revolver at him to scare him, police in the Caribbean port city of Barranquilla said on Tuesday.

After shooting 21-year-old university student David Galvan in the neck, his uncle, Rafael Vargas, 35, was so distraught he turned the gun on himself and committed suicide, police said.

The incident took place on Sunday night while the two were having drinks with neighbors.

Galvan started to hiccup and Vargas, who works as a security guard, said he would use the home remedy for hiccups of scaring him. He pulled out his gun, pointed it at Galvan and it accidentally went off, witnesses told local television.

"They were drinking but they were aware of what was going on," one witness said.

aww man... you mean "don't be a dumbass" don't you?

For a sec I thought scaring people while they have hiccups made them choke or something. That would be cool.

I don't use this term very often but, WTF?!

blink.gif

I mean come on! When you scare someone who has the hiccups its supposed to be like popping out at them or making a loud noise. Not pointing a loaded gun at them. They said this was the uncles remedy. So that tells me he might've done this before. I hope not. Gosh, what an IDIOT!

well put.

I'll tell you the only sure fire remedy I've ever seen to hiccups. I learned this in a liquor store. This guy had the hiccups for 2 days long so far, and this guy comes in a tells him this and thy went away. Sit down. Get a plastic cup and fill it with water or something. now lean forward so that your head is basically upside down. drink as much as you can while upside down. Its hard but it puts pressure on your diaphram and makes em stop. Its crazy.

Ok, so let's all come to an agreement that the uncle was being a complete idiot and also an immature/irresponsible adult, and that he shouldn't have scared his nephew with ANYTHING, esp. a gun, to scare away a few hiccups. =|

Wow, what an idiotic uncle. As a security guard with permission to own a gun, he should know that pointing a real or loaded gun is prohibited.
