I made my profile and it looks fine on my computer. I opened it up on the one downstairs however and most of the text is shadowed, even the black text, which makes it look really stupid. And then, parts of it aren't (all the headings except Jen's Friend Space and Jen's Comments, and "View All Blog Entries", everything else is though). None of it's supposed to be, and it doesn't look that way on my laptop. I went and opened it up on the basement computer and it looks fine. It's just the livingroom one. Why would that happen?
Does it look shadowed for anyone else too? http://www.myspace.com/jjjennnnn Any idea why it might be doing that? I looked through all my code and I can't find anywhere where it might be telling it to make it that way. |

UPDATE: I went into the Display Properties on the downstairs computer, which is running Windows XP (mine is 2000 and the basement one is 98) and unchecked the box that says "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" (Appearance ---> Effects...) so it isn't using any, and that fixed the problem, made the shadows go away!
I must be using 2 different fonts, and the one needs to be "smoothed" for some reason. So I guess my next question is: What is a "screen font"? |

QUOTE(toyo loco @ Jan 22 2006, 6:50 PM) I have no idea. That's just what the option is. Where you can turn on ClearTypeIf you go to Display Properties ---> Appearance ---> Effects... and uncheck the "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" box |

According to some weird online dictionary this is a screen font:
QUOTE screen font - the font that is displayed on a computer screen; "when the screen font resembles a printed font a document may look approximately the same on the screen as it will when printed" Makes since? somewhat? or no? |

What I've gathered from what I've read so far, some fonts are "Print Fonts" and some are "Screen Fonts". Print fonts are designed for print and Screen fonts are ones that can be smoothed out to make them easier to read using "anti-aliasing".
I still have no idea though, why some of my profile is "anti-aliased" and some of it isn't |

never did figure that out, but I seemed to have fixed it by sticking:
font-smooth:never; in the code for my body The only place it's still doing it, is the 2 spots where I'm using <font> tags to override the css. That is annoying. I don't suppose anybody knows how I can get around that? I want to get rid of all the stupid anti-aliasing |

ugh, I can't seem to get that to work... but I shouldn't have to! There is obviously a problem with my code somewhere, because some of the text looks fine. Just in case you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a snapshot of part of the screen that gives a good idea of what the problem is:
This is what it's supposed to look like (and does with no screen font smoothing): ...and this is what it looks like when ClearType is turned on: Notice how all of the table headings are fine except Jen's Friend Space and Jen's Friend Comments. Yeah, I know you can mess with the ClearType settings in Windows to make it not look so bad, but I can't control how other people have theirs set, and at least this makes me aware of the problem. Can someone please look through my code and tell me how I can fix this? Forgive me if it's sloppy, but I've been messing with it for awhile: This is what I've got in my About Me section: and here's the link again: http://www.myspace.com/jjjennnnn If someone could take a look at that for me, I'd be eternally grateful! |

It doesn't make any sense, because "Jen's Blurbs" looks fine, but then "About Me", "Who I'd Like to Meet", "Jen's Friend Space", and "Jen's Friends Comments" all have the shadows. Isn't that all controlled by .orangetext15? How can the "Jen's Blurbs" be different. If I could figure out what was making the "Jen's Blurbs" look ok, I could apply it the rest of it. Why is this happening??? Someone please help!
