Do you think here in Cb a "member of the Month Award" idea would be a good idea? It's a huge morale boost for whoever wins it, and being nominated is an achievment alone. Some people will be disappointed not to be nominated sometimes, but we can't please EVERYBODY.

What do you think?

I don't think that would work, becuase there are a lot of members here, too many would get over looked, and the voting process would take forever, becuase it would be more of a popularity contest. rather than the people that are all around people that will post in all the fourms with feedback and positive comments. after the voting would be done there would be too many ties, and it would take forever to play the elimination game with as many members as cb has.

This month I haven't been paying much attention, so logically I was thiniking it could start next month (a la February).

still yet, who would pick the member of the month? that had nothing to do with my question unless you are stating that you are going to be picking it, although i dont think it should be left up to a regular member. let the staff or something vote on it if the idea is used.

Oh, right, just make a poll (staff members) with the candidates about a week before the end of the month and let the general public decide...

It's normal if it's going to be a popularity contest. What else should it be? We can't vote for unpopular members. You have to make yourself known. That's why it's called member of the month mellow.gif.

I think it's a good idea.

If cB was a smaller forum then maybe yeah but it's far too huge. And what would be the requirements to be member or the month? And the benefits?

cB has such a large membership that it would be incredibly difficult to pick a "member of the month." And like stated before, it would be more of a popularity contest than anything (the concept is a good one, but people are people and it turn out this way). Perhaps a member appreciation forum? Maybe something the admins/mods could do?

For one thing, it would inevitable result in people whose qualities shouldn't be highlighted, but are popular because of their faults.

But mainly it's because anyone who spends any time at all around cB knows who is popular. What's the need to quantify that into a percentage of votes? What's the need to prove who's the most well-liked at all?

Well, it's just for fun, just like the ball was, and how superlatives are. I don't see the big deal with it. Everything is a popularity contest.

^x2 tis true.

If a staff is willing to spearhead MofM (what a cute acronym, seriously!) I'm good w/ it.

I wouldn't mind and help out too, also if needed.

xD
Okay, I'm over it. Temporary euphoria's past.
But, you never know about this, if the staff worked a lot on this, it could work. :/ But, you don't know for sure.

Yea um...we don't just mod people for certain topics...

People Staff would take care of it.
I'm certain it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Nothing out of the ordinary. We have contests all the time.

but yeah, it woul dbe run in the same way as the best caption contest. i.e. by mods.

you guys are making it more complicated then it needs to be

backstage mods can vote on who they think deserves to be recognized as the "member of the month" and then they post it

no minumum post counts or anything, just personal discretion

Well it is member of the month. The mods and admins have already been recognized as noteworthy, and besides which, their group title lacks the word "member," unlike the rest of us.

It's a nice idea.

I'm not sure how everything will play out but it's nice.
Is there actual voting involved with the reg members, or does the staff pick someone after a discussion backstage.

There are some good points and bad points about this.
Everyone seemed to mention them already.

I'm on the fence with this.
If this happens then that's great.
If it doesn't happen then i probably won't think twice about it.

I think its a nice idea if watched. I can see it getting ugly too. Jealousy and drama could get ahold of this and ruin it. But that's no reason not to try it. If it fails, it fails. But we'll never know until it's tried. I'm all for it, well unless it gets ugly. Then I never was for it to begin with, j/k. happy.gif

^I agree with that. Like, separate awards, right?

I'm all for trying if it's structured correctly. No harm in trying it out.

mmm.

the worst that can happen is, it will get out of hand and there wil be drama, which i dont see happening. if it does, we just dont do it again. cb is more than capable of recovering from drama

Anyway, so I guess this is gonna happen?
Who is ultimately gonna pick the best staff/ member?

The admins for the staff? (people staff, myspace, xanga, and all)
And the people staff for the reg member?
