'7th Heaven' Canceled Because of Costs
Monday January 16 8:40 PM ET The Camden family is disappearing from television in May strictly for financial reasons: the WB's top executive said Sunday that the network is losing $16 million this year on "7th Heaven." The family drama, the most popular program in the network's history, will end its run after 10 years. The decision seems irreversible despite an Internet campaign to save it, even though "7th Heaven" is still the WB's second highest-rated show after "Gilmore Girls." Production costs tend to jump for television series as they get older, largely because the salaries of actors and others involved grow with success. "7th Heaven," about a family of seven and all their friends, has a large cast. ADVERTISEMENT Reruns of "7th Heaven" were fading in the ratings, too, and that made it tougher for the network to recoup its investment, said Garth Ancier, the WB's top executive. "As much as we all love the show, we do have to run a business," Ancier said. Other older WB series, "Smallville" and "Gilmore Girls," don't have the same problem, he said. Talks about a spinoff to "7th Heaven" have proven inconclusive so far. The WB has struggled recently as it tries to shed its image as a teen-oriented network and seek out a broader audience. It learned the dangers of going too far when the new series "Just Legal," starring Don Johnson, attracted viewers with the average age of 50 and was swiftly canceled. As a result, the WB is developing a new comedy about teenagers in a New England boarding school. The network is also developing series for Ellen DeGeneres, playing the voice of a family dog; music star Brandy; and Nick Lachey, the about-to-be former Mr. Jessica Simpson, as the lead in a romantic comedy. I loved that show when I was back in 4th grade, I think. Used to sit down when I'm bored, and WB11 was always the right channel for me to tune to. Sad to hear this.

What the. That show wasnt canceled years ago ? I never watched it. The happy goody-good family with problems they worked out turned me off. Im really, never into those kinds of shows.

I used to watch that show way back when. Now, I think it's gotten worse so I stopped watching it. The storylines are also kinda dumb.

its about time. the show has been on for years. i used to really love it but it got kind of dull for me after kids start popping out.. and started to get old. i miss little innocent ruthie (i know people grow). i became disinterested.

wow i'm shocked!
I know a lot of people who will be really upset about this. I don't watch the show too much, but i liked the episodes that I did watch. That's too bad :( |

i used to love that show when i was younger but as i grew up, i thought it was so stupid when i realized how they would make everyone somehow go through the same problem.
i'm going to miss the cute dog  which they don't show enough of

 That was the only show that I ever could watch with the family when it first started. I remember watching it every Monday and loving every episode! I stopped watching it some years after that, but I still catch the re-runs. Oh, well, they had a really good run. And Lucy's husband is a hottie.

OMG i totally forgot about JUST LEGAL ahah. and ALSO BOBBY and JACK ended a while ago. that wasnt a bad show.
i love WB its the main chanel i watch. i kind of dont like how 7th heaven changed. everybody now is like having sex and getting pregnant. it turned into a health show. and the more the actors got older the more they sucked at acting. its funny how when i started watching the show i was about the same age as simon and now he is like way older than me? lol weird |

Wow, I can't believe they cancelled that show. My mom use to love it. I never really watched it that much though. The little girl reminded me of my little cousin. hmm...sidenote- Have you noticed that besides a few action movies you don't hear much out of Jessica Biel after she left the show?

thank god the day has finally come...the show sucks..the last time i watched that show was in 7th and the last episode i watched was the mary kate and ashley one..but it already long turned into one of those shows that just keep producing b/c of the money and the lines and acting and everything is crappy...they keep giving them new problems and adding in random ppl...argh i can go into a long ramble but point is i hate it hate it hate it hatee it
