What games do you think that few people here have played from the 8-16bit era, and that they should pick them up right now?

Earthbound: Do it.
Gunstar Heroes: You missed out if you did not play this.
Megaman X series: You missed out.
Bubble Bobble: You missed out.
Super Metroid: You definitely missed out.
Kirby Superstar: What are you, deprived?
Super Mario RPG: Square didn't just make FF games you know.
Contra: Stay up all night with a friend and beat this game. With AND without the code.
Jackal: See above.

That's all I can think of. I'm mad tired now.

Gotta love Super FX. And the talking was great!

And SMB3 was a good one, but everyone has played it. It's the highest selling game ever (not counting SMB1, which was bundled with the NES).

Bubble Bobble, no doubt.

Last time we spent the whole night trying to beat the obese bitch at the end, and we still failed.

Girls = not good at video games. =p

Other than obviously everything Kryo stated

Killer Instinct : The kind of fighting game you could literally walk away from and cook a meal before a combo was over.

Man I remember Kirby Superstar and Gunstar!! Those games were awesome! Earthbound was nice and weird... but that game used to give me headaches.

Anyway, I would add:

- Donkey Kong Country's (they're way better than Mario)
- Chrono Trigger
- Final Fantasy 6
- Tales of Phantasia
- Killer Instint
- Mortal Kombat
- Sonic
- Streets of Rage
- Shinobi

Also, does Neo-Geo count in that era? If so I would recommend most of their sweet games, especially Metal Slug!

I've played everything that was listed on this page. I know a game that a lot of people don't know. Running Man, it was an old game on the NES system where your speed depends on how fast you run on your mat. It was one of the first "DDRish" games.

A little random but... GAME GEAR! My bf had one of those. He said that was popula back then because it had a color LCD screen (the Graphics on that thing, by the way, STILL beats the any GameBoy or DS system I've played on) Wow... the sonic game on there was awesome! Too bad I suck at games in general... whistling.gif *edges away*

Yay Bubble Bobble! I remember playing that at arcades.. yea I was horrible at that too. lol Gigi, I'm probably wayyy worse off.

The only game I'm remotely good at is tetris... Yea gotta love that good old tetris... With it's addictive music. :]

I HAVE A VIRTUAL BOY! it still works too, only got i think 2 games for it. Mario Tennis and Telero Boxer. they were both great. it was weird how it was red, but it was cool how the system itself was this huge virtual-visor type thing u have to look in.

The fact that game is so absurd makes it so enjoyable. There's hardly any replay value to the game; you're right on that one.

Just read the whole thread, I've played every one of these games with the exception of like two. I need a life.

Anyway, can't miss classic games:

Duke Nukem
Duke Nukem 2
Duke Nukem 3D
Doom
Quake
Unreal
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Wolfenstein 3D
Xenophage
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Abuse
Prince of Persia
Alien Syndrome
Alien Carnage
2400 AD
Catacomb Abyss
Grand Theft Auto
Galshell - Blood Red Skies

Some of these aren't that old, but still keep the same feel as the classic DOS games.
