Lohan Tells Vanity Fair She Tried Drugs
Jan 4, 3:03 PM EST

The Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Lindsay Lohan, who was hospitalized in Miami this week for an asthma attack, tells Vanity Fair in an interview that she has dabbled in drugs and battled bulimia.

The 19-year-old actress-pop singer says that following the success of 2004's "Mean Girls, she dabbled in drugs "a little," but quickly adds: "I've gotten that out of my system." The issue hits newsstands Tuesday.

When asked if her drug use included cocaine, Lohan denies it, saying, "I don't want people to think that I've done ... you know what I mean?"

She does, though, more openly discuss last year's drastic weight loss. Lohan acknowledges that she was suffering from bulimia: "I was making myself sick."

Lohan says that before hosting NBC's "Saturday Night Live," Tina Fey and "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels sat her down.

"They said, `You need to take care of yourself. We care about you too much, and we've seen too many people do this, and you're talented,' and I just started bawling," Lohan says. "I knew I had a problem and I couldn't admit it."

"I saw that `SNL' after I did it," she adds. "My arms were disgusting. I had no arms."

Lohan says she's doing much better: "You have to learn for yourself and you have to hit rock bottom sometimes to get yourself back to the top."

Lohan co-stars in Robert Altman's "A Prairie Home Companion," due in theaters in June. She has been filming "Bobby," directed by Emilio Estevez, about the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.

She's also set to begin shooting "Chapter 27," a film about John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, in two weeks.

Lohan's mother and manager, Dina, told OK! magazine Wednesday, that her daughter was getting better after being hospitalized Monday night for an asthma attack.

I don't think people understand how truly terrifying it is to have an asthma attack," Dina Lohan was quoted as saying. "I'll be taking her home to New York to recuperate."

My guess is right. whistling.gif

I knew there was drugs involved. Honestly, in some pictures she looks fcuked up!

The bulimia I can see. She got drastically skinny but... I don't know why I didn't think of it.

I was talking to people about Lohan. I preferred her redheaded, thick, with hips and bewbies.

Now, shes just skinny, (semi) flat, skinny , pale and blonde. I hope shes thicking up again, and letting her hair go back to its natural color.

SHE'S NOT BLONDE RIGHT NOW, SHE'S A BRUNETTE.

But I agree with you all, red and thick is the way to go.

Ew. I knew it. No one gets that skinny that fast naturally.

She looked better as a curvy redhead. This skeletor look isn't too hot.

Isn't her hair black now?

Hey, give her a break--most people have tried drugs at least once in their lives, or will. If she honestly doesn't do it now, she's not a horrible, no-good person. And I sympathize with her eating disorder. Eating disorders aren't just something someone develops to "get thin," and they're not just something that a person gets over easily, as well. Maybe if she wasn't scrutinized and criticized all the time, she wouldn't have such problems.

the thing people don't seem to realize is that she dyes her hair for movie roles. i'm surprised that she would admit to those kinds of things. now people will probably talk even more sh*t about her.

I agree. Also, since she and Hilary Duff kind of have a clash (or well, HAD one), Hilary Duff is now skinny (.. er.. skinnier), so I guess it puts more pressure on her.

Yes we all prefer Lindsay when she was a redhead and thicker, but it's true that she's criticized so much that it made her lose sight of what her true goals are--acting (and singing?). I'm glad she's getting help as well. I mean, after the Mary-Kate Olsen thing, it seems like everyone's following the trend. Eating disorders are more of a psychological thing, than a physical thing...

I'm well aware of that, but at the same time, I still think she was better looking as a thick redhead.

I was relieved that she admitted to it because I do like her and you could just tell something was really wrong. And I mean you gotta give her a break, shes under a lot of scrutiny all the time and it gets hard to deal with it. Shes just like every other young woman out there, except she doesnt just feel like the whole world is out to judge her, shes knows they are. I say good for her for being honest with hersel fand trying to do something about it.

agreed.

dabbling in drugs is hardly unheard off, in the celebrity world, or outside of it. it is not the crie of the century, and it does not make her a terrible person.

and eating disorders are NOT something to be sneered at. they are a mental problem, and are difficult to overcome. anypne who has had a friend suffer from anorexia will tell you that. don't sneer, support.

But it's not an issue of "looking good". Anorexia and bulimia are more often diseases caused by a lack of control in one's life, or some sort of pressure, rather than a desire to "look good".

well i give her props for admitting something as big as that. at least now she knows that she has a problem. hmm i wonder which celebrity will be next to confess their problems since in hollywood anything big is bound to be followed.

Yeah, I must say, this news did surprise me. I guess I didn't think she would sink to that level, but she was looking rather skinny. But I'm glad she told the truth and she admits that she needs help.

Well I'm glad she's finally admitted it. I am not a mega fan of her singing career but I think she's a decent acctress so I'd like seeing her healthy again. Also many many people look up to her so I think its good for someone in her position to admit there is a problem and that she's going to try and work on it. Also, just on pure looks(as many in this thread seem to agree) the skinny bleached blonde(now black, still bad) look was horrible. I much prefered her red-haired with curves.

and also- disney might not promote her with all that stuff she's done, bad influence ya know? i think this might hurt her career.

^ Me, too. She would probably have a better chance if she had better movies under her belt to show off her talent in that area, and if she could actually sing, but sadly she has neither of those.

Like Kate Moss...except she has a chance because she's an exceptional model. The best, actually.
