Usually I can just turn on the radio, turn off the lights, and then it's easy to go to sleep, usually I can sleep with the light on, and the TV on, still in my work clothes, but when I really cant sleep the easiest way for me to is To just get two blankets(so I'm really warm) Turn on the radio, and turn off the fan and light, and then I can fall asleep really easily

I stay awake for a week.

No, I'm kidding.

I just lie there and think about things...anything. My life, my friends, questions...because I don't get the chance to just lie idle and think deeply anytime during the day, so I take advantage of the time before I go to sleep. And soon I just drift off.

Yea, music for me. That's the only thing that can get me to sleep. Without music it takes like 3 hours to fall asleep, with music, 1 at the most, usually about 30 minutes though.

I googled this once.

It helps if you drink warm milk, it's something in the milk that helps.

And um, try not to think about anything. It's hard for me sometimes, but whatever. Or read a boring book.

There's a lot of ways to go to sleep.

1. Think yourself to sleep, which sometimes works.
2. Watch TV.
3. Listen to music.
4. NyQuil!

reading a book doesn't help if i have alot of things on my mind.

best way is hot milk, or some type of cold medecine that makes you drowsy. some cough medecins do that too.

okay i tried the warm milk thing.. that definately did not work for me. not only that, the taste just grossed me out. (i hate drinking milk alone) i tried drinking warm things too, tea and such.. not a damn thing.

reading books before going to bed makes me quite sleepy. theres a list of things you can do. google "cure for insomnia"

Try reading something. That usually helps for me.
Or drinking something. I don't know why lol. Hot chocolate can make me sleepy. lol
Or just turn on the tv and watch until your eyes bleed.
That always works.

Count sheeps!

Haha. I'm just kidding. I don't know. I turn on some music at a low volume & I just lie there. If you keep on tossing & turning, it stimulates your brain, therefore, taking a longer time for you to fall asleep. So my suggestion? Lie still!!!

i have this same problem. i get in my piamas (pajamas) and i`m all relaxed the lights are off and i turn the tv off. i lay there thinking (bekuz there is usually a lot on my mind) and i dont fall asleep. what i do, i go to the bathroom and lay on the floor for awhile and then i get back in bed. bekuz the floor is so uncomfortable and my bed is, my body instantly gets very relaxed and tired. causing me to drift off into sleep. yawn.gif but hell i`m too lazy to do that all the time, so i juss lie there until i fall asleep. at like 1 am. mad.gif

Um, okay, everyone seems to be saying "Get tired and sleep." That just doesn't work.

This is what you do.

Lay down and close your eyes. Make sure you're comfortable. Now, stay there. Do not move any part of you. Not even in the slightest bit. Put each part of your body to sleep part by part (You can even tell your body part in your mind to fall asleep, it works). I can put my entire body to sleep at one time, but that takes practice. After your body is asleep, take your focus off of everything and let your mind wander. You should fall asleep.

AHAH!

in my health class i learned that if you can`t lie down, and within 10 minutes your not asleep, you might have insomnia. some quick ways to fix it, go to another room, ANY ROOM besides yours, sit down and open a book, within 5 minutes of opening your book you be sleepy then simply go back to bed, and close ur eyes. if ur still not falling asleep see your doctor on insomnia.

What I do and what you should do (if it works for you):
first lie still on your bed, make sure your in a comfortable position first
then I usually close my eyes and then instead of thinking of other things, I trie to clear my mind by picturing white.

another thing I do is before I go to sleep is this breathing technique I learned in yoga. You can learn it in the CosmoGirl magazine (febuary 2006)

good luck!

Yeah. That works.

A big reason why people can't get to sleep is because their body might be tired and their mind is wide awake. Reading, getting on the computer, writing, drawing, anything that requires your mind will make your mind tired, so it's easier to get to sleep.

None of these methods are proven by anything.

This will actually work:
Lie down. Do not move. Do not toss, do not turn. Your body will scream at you to move, but you have to fight it. Just lie completely motionless. Soon enough, you will go to sleep regardless of whether you're even tired or not.

HAHA That's the exact same thing I do. My doctor told me that exercising in the evening a few hours before you go to bed will help. I used to not be able to fall asleep. Now I fall asleep watching tv or just thinking about life and the future and stuff.

Sleeping on your stomach, i've heard helps too. Also, one time I stayed at a hotel and they had this Sleep CD for you. You play it when you go to sleep and they use relaxation techniques to help you fall asleep. it worked like a charm. i was so rested in the morning.

I don't have a special way to fall asleep but my drama teacher once said it's easier to fall asleep if you relax and focus on your breathing. If that even makes sense...

I use to have to take tylenol PM or something else to help me get to sleep

From what most people told me I suffer from insomnia.
So I sleep for only a few hours at a time get up for a little while or lay there and try going back to sleep..

It takes me hours of laying in bed to go to sleep.

Anyway
TO get to sleep quicker and sleep better follow these tips

QUOTE
Don’t watch TV or even so much as look at a computer screen atleast 30 minutes before you lie down. The light from both a television as well as a computer monitor mimic the same intensity of light as sunlight. This fools your body and brain into thinking it’s nowhere near time for sleep.

Drink milk. Milk has an amino acid in it called Tryptophan that increase the levels of serotonin and/or melatonin in the brain which slow down brain activity. It’s science folks.

Go to bed when you are tired. Different strokes for different folks here. Just because your wife goes to bed at 9PM doesn’t mean you are ready. You might only require seven and half hours of sleep while she might require ten. If you aren’t tired, do something low-key until you are, like read a book, play solitaire (NOT on your computer), or play with some legos.

Reserve the bed for bed things (ie sleep and sex). I for one don’t strictly follow this rule as I’ll read some before I go to sleep, but for some people this is a must.

Meditate. No, don’t cross your legs and hum, but focus on relaxing…if that makes sense. Take deep, long breaths. Tense each muscle one at a time from head to toe. Focusing on doing this takes your mind off of other things and you’ll be in lala land in no time.

Excercise during the day. I emphasize during the day. Excercising at night just gets everything going instead of shutting down for sleep. But excercising during the day tires the muscles out and makes for a solid nights sleep.

try sleeping in a different place on your bed like sideways or put your head where your feet usually are. that works for me sometimes especially in the middle of the night. i agree that reading helps because it makes my eyes tired music like death cab for cutie usually helps me sleep, make a playlist on your ipod and put a sleep timer on it

Think about space. Theoretical science. Quantum physics and superstring theories. Not saying that it's boring (I think it's really interesting), but it just makes my mind wander from one topic to another and so I fall asleep faster.

Oh, listening to The Postal Service works. 'Cause it's rythmic, I guess. Listening to the beginning of Brand New Colony always makes me fall asleep.
Acoustic stuff works well too.

try not to do too many activities like watching tv or going on the computer before going to bed cause your brain will remain active afterwards. try reading a book or something.

ps, my doctor told me that so i'm not just talking out of my butt or anything. :)

Wow, everyone else listens to jazz music to sleep.
*raises hand* I listen to post-rock, mostly The Album Leaf if I'm trying to sleep. (But usually I don't listen music to sleep.)

.. that's all.
