Okay I always have wanted to make images have transparent background and it worked when I had animation shop, but I don't have that anymore. And I always tried to make a PSD but it just doesn't work and even thought there are some good PSD sites out there they don't always have what I want.

wait..PSD? Photoshop Document?
Well, you can save any file you open, either in PSP [9?] or PS by going to file>save as> type in name of file that you want to save it as and then select the file type from the drop down list, or type in imagename.psd Is that what you meant..? |

Trans .PNG's work great too. They also tend to be slightly less big, but that's not always the case.
